Today's How To-sday comes to you from Winter Design Team member Lisa Spiegel. Lisa shows us how to make an adorable altered canvas just in time for Valentine's Day! She has rocked it yet again!
Happy How To-sday! Valentine’s Day is sneaking up on us and in honor of our day of love, I created a canvas for my mantle using my scrapbook supplies. It’s really easy to do but makes a big impact and can help you set the tone for a little Valentine’s Day décor in your home.
Here’s a peek at the products I used to create this..
A canvas (I got mine for under $3 at Big Lots), three different scrapbook papers (I chose to use some My Mind’s Eye and the punch outs from the Love Me collection), a heart punch, Thickers, a doily, and some Heidi Swapp Color Shine.
To create the canvas, I unscrewed the cap from the Color Shine and splattered the canvas with the product instead of spraying it.
I really like the subtle glimmer of the Color Shine without it covering too much of the canvas. Next, I punched out 6 hearts out of each of the three papers. I layered each heart with two hearts and folded the top heart in the middle so it popped a bit. I used my sewing machine to adhere the layers but it isn’t necessary if you don’t have a sewing machine.
For the embellishment cluster at the top, I used two die cut strips, the two last hearts and a couple of die cut hearts, too.
I adhered everything to the canvas using Zip Dry adhesive and in 30 mins, I created the backdrop for my mantle display.
I hope you’ve enjoyed this little How To’s Day tutorial! Have a wonderful Valentine’s Day with the people you love!
