Welcome Guest Sketcher, Brenda Smith! (MWM #29)

Welcome Guest Sketcher, Brenda Smith! (MWM #29)

I LOVE guest sketcher week.  Not only do my brain cells get a much needed rest, but we all get treated to a fresh set of ideas.  I was beyond thrilled when Brenda Smith agreed to be the guest Mojo sketcher for February.  I think you will love seeing how Brenda put the perfect twist on today’s Steal, the Out and About collection by We R Memory Keepers. I know we are all treated each week by seeing Brenda’s girly girl layouts so what an added bonus it is to see her step out of her “norm” and use a more boy-ish collection.

Brenda….take it away.  :)

To say that I was thrilled to be asked by Kristy to be a guest sketcher would be a vast understatement. I was ecstatic, downright giddy. I marked the very beginning of my scrapbooking journey with Scrapbook Steals and MWM #1 and 28 weeks later, I have done a total of 48 layouts, 7 cards, 1 mini book, and 3 altered projects (a printer’s tray, a notebook, and an embroidery hoop)! How lucky I am that I get to guest design for the blog that has meant so much to me and my development as a scrapbooker!

I must admit, when I was given the choice to work with either Out and About or another kit, I was a little intimidated by the idea of using a travel-themed/boyish line on layouts about my daughter. In the end, I decided the challenge would be good for me, and so Out and About it was. Once I saw the papers in person, I realized this line is so much more than just travel-themed. A lot of the patterns have sort of a 60s/70s retro feel, which I completely love.

The layout I chose as my sketch was inspired by the fabulous layered and flocked stickers included in today’s kit. When I saw the “Let’s Go” sticker, I knew it would be perfect for the pictures I have of my daughter standing up.

I cut out the car portion of the sticker to make it more appropriate for the subject matter. I also felt inspired to use the two different kinds of die cuts. The first one is the bracket-shaped one at the top, and the second one, I cut the scalloped edges off to use as borders on the top and bottom. Behind the picture on the right, there is an envelope which contains a hidden letter to my daughter.

I simply glued the underside of the envelope to my photo, and then glued the photo to the layout.

Another thing I love about WRMK? Their tiny brads, and in this case, glitter brads! They add the perfect, subtle touch to any layout.

I did a couple additional projects with Out and About because it was just so fun to work with. This layout, “We Laugh in the Face of M.S.R.P.” is about how I hope to teach my daughter to never full price for anything, prompted by the clearance stickers on the scrapbook supplies in the background of the photo. I am an expert bargain-hunter, and with any luck, my daughter will be too! I stitched a pocket into the cardstock and have hidden journaling on a tag.

I also did an altered embroidery hoop.

I cut the orange dotted paper into a circle and glued it to the inner hoop. Then I inked the outer hoop with Martha Stewart pigment ink and attached Fancy Pants pom pom trim. I put the hoops together, put my picture, papers, and other embellishments on, and tied a ribbon to the top to make a wall hanging. Done in 20 minutes, very easy!

Lastly, I made a card for my 9 year old nephew.

I really love how versatile this line is. It really works with all sorts of themes and projects

I am so excited to see what you girls make this week!

Brenda, I can’t thank you enough for being our Guest Sketcher for this month.  You are truly gifted and amaze all of us with everything you create!

I’m also amazed with this weeks Random.Org winner.

Melanie Carey

Not only am I amazed at how lovely of a job she did with this page, but I cannot get over how FANTASTIC she looks for being on the way home from just having had a baby!

Congrats Melanie.  :)  Please send your address to orders@scrapbooksteals.com and we will get something scrappy sent out to you.

We want to thank We R Memory Keepers for their generosity in providing us with an amazing Cinch package for a giveaway.  The contest is now closed, but be sure to check in Monday morning to see who the lucky winner is!

Do you think you can handle one more *amazing* thing?  How about a little twist on our monthly Guest Designer?  Would *you* like to be featured?  Well if you’re feeling the urge to create a sketch for us, and you’re feeling lucky, simply add a comment to the blog post following this one.  I will select a random winner using my favorite, Random.Org, and we will announce the winner of the random guest spot on St. Patrick’s Day!   Our random designer will be featured on the first Wednesday in April, since our guest for March is already busy designing away.  Hurry though!  You only have until tomorrow morning to let me know that you’re interested.

Be sure to share your amazing takes on Brenda’s sketch.  Remember to post your creations to our Facebook Fan Page or personal blog with a link provided here in the comments in order to be eligible for our weekly drawing.  Also next week will be the last sketch in the “Ruby Club” series.  I’m so positively in love with the prize that Melodee wrangled up for this milestone.  Just a referesher that if you have completed layouts 21 – 30 you are eligible for the Ruby Club drawing.  If you are also a member of the the Diamond Club (sketches 1 – 10) and Emerald Club (sketches 11 – 20) you are eligible for one additional entry in the Ruby Club drawing for each “club” you are a member of.   So in short, if you’ve done all 30 sketches, you will have 3 entries into the drawing.  Just be sure to start gathering either names of your previous layouts or links to them to provide as a part of your entry.

Well, that’s probably an information overload so that’s enough from me today.  :)

Now it’s time to be happy and get scrappy.

MWM #27 with a little We R Memory Keepers Stitched Cardstock

MWM #27 with a little We R Memory Keepers Stitched Cardstock

Every once in awhile Melodee asks me what she thinks would be a good steal to offer.  I begged her for weeks, politely suggested that today’s steal, the Stitched Sardstock from We R Memory Keepers would be a fantastic steal.  Not only is cardstock a necessity for us scrappers, but the fact that it comes in delightful colors and is pre-stitched, simply put, rocks my world.  I LOVE the look of machine stitching on a layout, and yes, I’ve been known to do it, in fact bought a sewing machine just FOR scrapbooking, but wow…this is so much easier.

I wanted to keep the sketch simple this week so as to let the design of the cardstock shine.

I honestly drew this sketch out in about 45 seconds while I was waiting to pick my daughter up from school.  I knew I wanted to have a splash of different patterned papers and then let my embellishments take the stage along with the cardstock.

The problem was I didn’t know which photo to scrap.  So I looked to my ’emergency’ stash and found this cute photo of our wonderful Facebook friend, Nicole Radawetz’s daughter.

This layout came together in less than an hour.  It must be a RECORD for me!  :)  I cut circles in various sizes, inked the edges and was done!  I did have a bit of a hiccup with the journaling however, because I had more that I wanted to say than the sketch allows, so I moved it to the upper left hand corner where it seemed to flow better.

I LOVE how well this papers works for combining all sorts of different embellishments.

I decided to create another layout following the horizontal photo format so that everyone can see the different ways that the sketch can be adapted.  I did this layout of my hunny.  It came together equally as quickly.

Again, I had a blast mixing up embellishments from different manufacturers to compliment the layout.

We can’t wait to see what you create with this weeks sketch!  Remember we are a few short weeks away from our next big drawing, which I must say is absolutely spectacular.  It hasn’t even hit the streets yet!

And now for this weeks lucky winner!  Random.Org, selected the 1st layout posted to last weeks blog post…Sheryl Kloke

Thank you Sheryl for being such an amazing part of our community.  Your enthusiasm for getting right to it and getting those mojos done paid off for you this week!  Cheryl, will you please send me your address to orders@scrapbooksteals.com, and we will get a prize sent out to you!

Don’t forget to post your MWM #27 layouts to our Facebook Fan Page or personal blog and link them to this blog posting for your chance to win next weeks drawing.

Now get to it!  Scrap happy!  :)

MWM #25, Let’s Have Some Fun-fetti!

MWM #25, Let’s Have Some Fun-fetti!

Oh how I love We R Memory Keepers!  I have been lucky enough throughout my scrapbooking journey to have a long history with them.  (A good history too!.  :))  In fact, because of my time designing for We R Memory Keepers, I was introduced to the wonderful Melodee and as a result I’m now here, creating mojo’s for you!  So yeah…I have a soft spot in my heart for We R!

I’m here to tell you that it was fate that we have the Funfetti collection for today’s steal.  I received a request from our fan Shana Charpentier to create a layout housing 6 photos so that she could finish up her son’s BIRTHDAY CAKE layout!  I kid you not!  I was sooooooooo excited when I realized that I would not only be able to create the design for her but let her imagine her layout using some of the cutest birthday papers and embellishments on the planet!

I decided that I would do a layout of my daughters 16th birthday party.  I’m quite proud of myself that I actually scrapped birthday since it’s not something I normally do.  How could I resist when the papers worked to perfection with the photos of the bowling balls?  I couldn’t!

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE how We R Memory Keepers always creates the most darling embellishments to accompany their papers.  I love their layered chipboard tags which add dimension to the page without any effort!

I also love patterned paper that lends to hand journaling.

Then of course there are the blingy brads.  **sigh** Bling.  You just can’t ever have enough, can you?

And the smiley stickers….. I seriously had to hide them from my 6 year old and use them before he could!

Shana, I hope the layout will work out for you!  I can’t wait to see the photos of Brycen scrapped!

If you are new to our blog, be sure to check out our Facebook Fan Page.  As of last night, there are 2,547 photos of inspiration from you!  Our wonderful friends and fans!

Now for our weekly winner…the best part of MWM, don’t you think?

This week our lucky winner is Michelle Bryden.

I look forward each week to the splash of digital scrapbooking that Michelle brings to our midst!  I’m always in awe of her talents.  Michelle, please send us an email to orders@scrapbooksteals.com with your address and we will get a prize sent out to you!

I can’t wait to see what you come up with this week.  Be sure to share your creations with us, be it via the Facebook Fan Page or your own personal blog and leave a comment with a link to your creation on this post by next Monday at Midnight in order to be eligible for our weekly drawing.
