How To’sday | Pinwheels by Brittany Perry

One of our favorite ScrapbookSteals girls has done it again! If you’ve been paying attention to our Facebook fan page you’ve undoubtedly seen the darling pinwheels adorning so many of the scrapbook pages. Brittany Perry shows us step by step how to create one of these fantastic summer embellishments for your own paper crafting projects.

Pinwheels are everywhere! You can’t look through a paper crafting magazine or website without seeing them. I think they are a great alternative to flowers—and totally something that can be used on boy and girl layouts and cards! I am so glad to have something else I can use on my boys pages other than stars & buttons. And they’re SUPER easy and fast to make!

Step 1: Cut out a square of double sided paper. This one is 2.5″x2.5″.

Step 2: Lightly draw diagonal lines from corner to corner on the square.

Step 3: From each corner, cut about 1/2 – 2/3 of the way toward the center of the square. You don’t want to cut all the way, or it will make separate triangles, and you want them to all still be connected. If you want to ink the edges, the best time to do it is now, before you begin folding and gluing.

Step 4: Take one corner from each of the four new sections and fold it in so that it touches the center, and use adhesive to hold down the corner. I also used a foam square under each piece of folded paper, so that there would be some dimension and to help it hold better. Repeat with the same side/corner on each of the four sections.

Step 5: Finish off the center with a brad, button, or whatever else you like.

How To’sday | Paper Flowers by Jessica Laureano

Dimensional flowers are truly all the rage in the scrapbooking world right now. We’ve had such a great time seeing how our fans have made flowers using different techniques. Today Jessica Laureano has been kind enough to show us a technique to make flowers using paper circles.

—————————-

Step 1 : Punch eight small circles. I used my 1 inch circle punch.

Step 2 : Take 1 circle  and fold in half, then fold in half again for quartered folds. Open and lay flat.

Step 3 : Take the seven remaining circles and fold in adjacent segments as shown, creating a V shape in each.

Step 4 : Adhere the fold circles, one at a time, to the center of the quartered circle, using the folds as guides.

Step 5 : Finish with a button in the center.

—————————-

I have seen gorgeous flowers like this before, but didn’t know how to make them and couldn’t wait to try it out! I made this card in minutes.

Thank you Jessica! It’s been so great to see inspiration from so many of you. If you have a great idea that you’d like to see featured on How To’sday, please feel free to send photos and directions to me at kristy@stealnetwork.com.

Be sure to check in tomorrow at 9am for our next Mid Week Mojo.

Have a happy, scrappy day!
