New to Mid Week Mojo? Get started here!

The Simple Stories Summer Fresh Collection is everything you would expect from a Simple Stories collection! It has fun bright colors and patterns, lots of quotes and title borders, ready-made journaling card elements in varying sizes, and photo mats and border strips – all you need to make that perfect scrapbook layout, mini album, card or…well…anything really!

Here is this week’s sketch:

Mid Week Mojo Sketch Jade #9

And here is my layout. I loved the sunburst that this Simple Stories has in it’s journaling cards and headers, so I copied it and made it bigger! I fussy cut a lot of the embellishments from the 12×12 papers, added stitching and washi tape, buttons and brads. It all went perfectly with the Summer photo:

My title was fussy cut from one of the 12×12 sheets, and then lightly curled on the edges.

I wanted a small banner under my border, and so fussy cut this from another 12×12 sheet. Why spend the time creating my own banner when Simple Stories have done it all for me??

Adding dimension and texture to scrapbooking layouts

I used a couple of strips of washi tape to ‘set’ my journaling/meaning onto. This was fussy cut from the sheets, I added extra pen stitching and a brad to the flower center.

I hope I have inspired you to create your own layout from this sketch!

Simple Stories Happy Day Collection

It’s the start of a new Design Team, and first up is Cristine Redmond! I love what she has done with today’s steal, the Simple Stories Happy Day Collection! I love the patterned papers and colors in this collection – perfect for boys and girls. Cristine really shows us how to use it with great effect!

I really enjoy working with Simple Stories’ Collections, so I was excited when I found out I would be working with the Happy Days Collection for my first project.  Today’s steal is a very nice sized kit.  I ended up creating two layouts and two cards from the scraps and I still had a lot left.
Simple Stories Collections work great in Project Life-type photo sleeves, but for this layout, I did a lot of fussy cutting, using elements from different parts of the patterned papers.
I loved the fun banner that was printed on one of the half sheets, but just wanted that element alone, so I fussy cut it to use as a border across the page.  I also cut the two banners and the photo tab out of more solid-printed sections.  The journaling piece worked so well for everything I wanted to say.

I had fun pulling different embellishments from my stash that went well with the muted color scheme of this collection.

I used some of the fun stickers which are included on the alpha sheet on the pennants.  I thought they added a bit more without being too overwhelming.

For my first card, I did more fussy cutting, using the “happy day” phrase from one of the cards and cutting the pennants from solid pieces in different cards.

I don’t have any of the Project Life-type photo sleeves, but I decided to make a layout using the same theory to show how easy a layout can come together using this collection.

I used one of the border sections on the bottom of the page, then put another border on top of it, then I cut out two of the 4×6 cards, which happened to look very similar, and placed them in the upper and lower corners.  I cut one of the more solid-colored sheets to fit the other two 4×6 sections, added some embellishments and voila!  I was done!  This layout seriously took me about 20 minutes to throw together.  And it would have gone even faster if I had the photo sleeves to just throw the pieces into.  So easy!

For my second card, I just cut out one of the 3×4 cards, used the tiny alphas for a greeting, cut a border, and added some washi tape.  Again, super easy!

This collection is so versatile for people who love using the photo sleeve system or people who want to just throw their own layout together.  I’m glad I could help showcase both ways for you all!

Simple Stories 100 Days of Summer Collection

Hasn’t it been a great birthday week here at ScrapbookSteals.com? We’re going to wrap things up with a great combination—adding Simple Stories as a new vendor in the ScrapbookSteals.com lineup and the first official design team member post from Katrina Hunt. Today Katrina wows with the Simple Stories 100 Days of Summer Collection.

Hey there!  It’s Katrina with my first official post here on the blog.  I am so excited to be here and I can’t wait for you to see what you can do with today’s steal.

Where I live it is hot, hot, HOT, which put me in the perfect mood to work with the Simple Stories 100 Days of Summer collection.  I hate heat so it was the perfect excuse to stay inside and create.

I have two layouts and a card today to share and I still have product left over.  I may create a mini book and a few cards with the leftovers. (That’s how much product you get!)

Here is my first layout, and trust me, it’s hard to get a picture with all four dogs looking the same direction!  And then when you do, the human isn’t looking the right way!

I wanted to add an element cluster in the corner to balance the layout and the stickers were fun to do that with.

Tags, cards and more cards are the name of the game with Simple Stories collections.  This makes it super easy to layer and to create focal points on your layouts.  I love to use cards as anchors for titles on my pages and this one was perfect to make part of my title.

Right after I did that layout  I whipped up a quick card.  The large bingo cards make this easy and quick.  Add some of the collection stickers, some twine or ribbon, and voilà…a card you can give to someone to make their day!

Life got busy and then I remembered some pictures that would be perfect for this collection.  Out the pictures came and the bottom layout was created.  Now, I will admit to using a LOT of stickers on this layout.  There are so many on the sticker sheets that I couldn’t help myself.  But, if you ground them to other elements on your pages and pop them up with dimensional adhesive it give the page an entirely different look.  Layering them is a favorite trick of mine.

This time I  placed my pictures and title on the larger card elements.  I started with the title at the bottom, but after moving and shifting I decided the larger cards would be fun to layer above my pictures and have my title go across the page. I popped up the words “summer,” “up!” and the number 2.

Then I just used some of the smaller letter stickers and the “Fun” bingo card to stretch my title out even more!

And that is all from me today!  If you haven’t already grabbed the steal, I hope I have made you want to.  This is a perfect collection to scrap all those pictures you are going to be taking over the next couple of months!

Hugs,

Katrina
