Silhouette CAMEO | Monday Craft Madness #17

The Silhouette CAMEO and Accessories are just about my favorite paper crafting tools out there! I purchased a Silhouette a few months back, and never dared to use it! I used the software for the MWM sketches all the time, but yesterday’s steal gave me the push I needed. I have to say – I LOVE it! There are so many great printing and cutting files in the Silhouette online store), you really are spoiled for choice! Here are just a few of the files I chose, using the St Patrick’s Day celebration next Sunday as a theme. So you guessed it – this week’s Monday Craft Madness theme…

Shades of Green!

Use at least 2 shades of green on your projects!

I decided to make a fun collection of crafts this week – I really put my Silhouette to the test! I made a Leprechaun’s Hat using one of the cutting files, a ‘pot of gold’ using a cutting file and also a printing file, and I love the lace backgrounds and made a card using one of them.

All of this hat was cut out using the same cutting file – I just used different colors and textures of cardstock for the different elements!

For the ‘pot of gold’, this was again a single cutting file.

There was also a printable file for the tiny stickers on the bottoms of the Hersey’s kisses. This was so simple to do – you just ‘send’ it to your printer instead of the silhouette! It couldn’t be easier! I then used a 3/4″ circle punch to cut them out, my xyron create-a-sticker for adhesive and stuck them onto the bottoms. It just adds a little finishing touch don’t you think?

And finally, for my card, I used a lace clover background cutting file. The silhouette is so precise that it cuts even the most delicate of details without any tearing.

I finished it off with a digital stamp from Meljen’s that I hand colored with prismacolor pencils, some twine, and a clover that I cut out by mistake when I made the Leprachaun hat!

Silhouette | How To’sday

If you haven’t been lucky enough to add the Silhouette Cameo to your collection, let me sit you down right now and tell you to do everything in your power to make it happen. Whether that be adopting the “ask for forgiveness rather than permission” philosophy, stealing from your grocery budget (kids can live on ramen noodles, right?), or taking a temporary loan from someone’s piggy bank, you will not be sorry to have the magical abilities of today’s steal at your disposal.

I had a lot of fun using my Cameo to create backgrounds for these layouts.

I love the wide format the Cameo offers so I can create the perfect size embellishments for my page.

If you’re new to the world of the Silhouette, don’t despair! Here are a bunch of blog posts that can walk you through some step-by-step instructions on heat transfer, fabric interfacing, fabric paint, sketch pens and vinyl.

Here’s wishing you luck that you will be able to welcome a Cameo into your home! Have a great day and I’ll see you tomorrow for Mid Week Mojo and a sketch provided to us by Design Team member Regina Mangum.

Teresa Collins Fabrications | Mid Week Mojo

Amethyst – Layout 4

If Maria were singing the sounds of music, I think that rather than going for curtains to make a new outfit, she would make a mad dash for today’s steal, the Fabrications Collections by Teresa Collins. The Fabrications collections are filled with rich textures and designs that will bring to life not only your wardrobe but your scrapbook pages ranging from vintage memories of grandparents, to silly texts from your special someone. Note: I do not recommend machine washing the Fabrications collections, therefore sticking to paper crafting may be the desired result.

I found both of the Fabrications collections so enjoyable that I decided I would put both of them to use.

The first layout I created using the Linen collection. I absolutely adore getting texts from my husband. He keeps me entertained throughout the day and it’s always a toss up as to what kind of messages he will send. Sometimes they are funny, sometimes they make my heart melt. Whatever they are, they make me love him all the more, and I wanted to create a layout about the utter and complete randomness that often comes my way.

I love how the color palate of this collection wraps up in a little nutshell a layout about love!

Next, I used the Canvas collection to create a very special layout about a very special friend. This past January, I was honored to be asked to teach a class for We R Memory Keepers at the Winter CHA in Anaheim, CA. Not only was I thrilled to have a little time off of mommy duty (HOORAY!), but I was able to meet and spend some good time with a dear friend that I met as a result of my job at ScrapbookSteals, the ever so talented Brenda Smith.

The colors in the Canvas collection are a true representation of the happiness that I felt finally meeting in person someone that inspires me so greatly. And, of course, Teresa’s embellishments always add that perfect finishing touch.

So there you have it! If you’re creating anything ranging from vintage all the way to layouts about texting, or even a new wardrobe for the kidlets, the Teresa Collins Fabrications collections are versatile and incredibly unique. Now if I can just keep my 10-year-old out of the stash, since she thinks they would be perfect for wallpapering her doll house. But you know what? They really would be perfect!

And now it’s that exciting time to announce the winners of the Amethyst 3a and Amethyst 3b Mid Week Mojo creations.

Congrats go out to Mona Jarvis on being the random winner of the 3A sketch.

And a huge congrats to Venetia Holbrook on being the random winner of the 3B sketch.

Your layouts are both fantastic! If you will both please send an email to, we will be happy to get your prize sent out to you.

If you would like to be eligible for this week’s random drawing, be sure to have your layout created and posted somewhere online, as well as linked to this blog posting by Monday, March  19th at 11:59 MST.

Silhouette Advent Calendar — Love Style

Can you believe that Valentines Day is just barely over 25 days away? (26 if I’m counting right!) If you’re like me and just barely thought about putting away your Silhouette Advent Calendar from Christmas, think again! Why not turn it into a work of love? Don’t have one yet? Then today is your chance to pick one up and get creating a countdown to the day of hearts and kisses.

One of our good friends Staci Jones, recently converted her Silhouette Advent Calendar into a darling creation to give to her husband to count the many ways that she loves him. Granted I’m not exactly sure what Staci has hidden in those drawers for her hunny, but the display is something that would make anyone’s heart melt!

I’m so inspired by her creation that I figure I’d better give my calendar a face lift too!

Not sure what to put inside of your drawers?  Well, if you’re creating your advent for a significant other, then here are a few ideas that you may be able to tuck inside with a little kiss of chocolate.

  • A pass for a free massage
  • An invite to share a bubble bath
  • A love letter
  • A poem, written by you
  • A candle to burn later on
  • Movie tickets
  • Invite to dinner at his favorite restaurant
  • Create a custom crossword puzzle with clues that pertain to your relationship
  • A picture of a tulip with a note saying “I’ve got two-lips waiting for you”
  • A picture of wildflowers with a note saying “for my wild man”
  • A gift card to your favorite ice cream parlor
  • A garter with a special note attached
  • Love coupons
  • A copy of your wedding vows
  • A verse from a favorite song attached to an iTunes gift card
  • A tiny teddy bear with a note attached saying “I can’t bear being away from you”
  • A little monkey with a note attached saying “let’s monkey around”
  • A note telling him how much you appreciate the work he does
  • A gift card to a lingerie store — see what he brings home!
  • A small vile of massage oil
  • A Chinese fortune cookie with the fortune replaced with something romantic

Want to gear your advent toward your children? Attach reasons why you love them and special things that make you smile.

Whatever it is that you decide to do, the Silhouette Advent Calendar is a sure way to make the countdown to any celebration or holiday just that much more special.

Have a great weekend! I’ll see you Monday with another Monday Card Madness.

Silhouette Advent Calendar

I have to say that I’ve never felt the need to have a countdown calendar to count down the days until December 1st, so that I can begin using my creation of today’s steal, the  Silhouette Advent Calendar. I have to admit that I really had no idea what the huge buzz over the Silhouette Advent Calendar was until I found out we’d be featuring it here at ScrapbookSteals. The moment I saw it, I finally understood what they hype was about and I was giddy as ever, thinking about how I wanted to create mine.

Obviously with Christmas right around the corner, I decided to make my first rendition of the advent, a Christmas one. I selected papers from my collection from several different manufacturers and lines. I even ended up using some papers that I have had in my collection for over six years! Geesh I love a project that allows me to use up the “stash” so that I can justify making room for more.

Silhouette makes this project easy as ever! There are two different choices for each cubby hole. You can either cut out a decorative box or a drawer for each slot. The Silhouette download card comes with the options of both!  While I preferred the flush finish of the drawers, my son was over the moon about the different shaped boxes so I decided to mix it up and do a little of both. I really love how it turned out.

I have three tips for you.

Tip #1: Your download card may have a slight hiccup like mine did. Silhouette customer service is total rockstar and they helped me out right away. Here is what you need to do if your card doesn’t appear to be working.

1. Open the Silhouette Studio software – If you do not already have the latest version of Silhouette Studio, please visit to install it. Now re-start your computer prior to running.
2. Click on the “Silhouette Online Store” button (the one that looks like a mouse in the lower left-hand side of the screen)
3. Log into your account
4. Go to the “My Account” options and visit the “My Download History” link, or if recovering everything you may use the “Recover All” option
5. Select the order number that you need to recover (if recovering specific orders only) and click on the “Recover Order” button
6. Once you have submitted your password, your images from the selected order will be downloaded to your library.

Tip #2: Make sure you have a sharp blade and one or two cutting mats with good stick! To expedite my cutting process, I used two cutting mats. While one was in use, I was getting the second one ready.

Tip #3: Use a good adhesive! I found that photo tape worked best. After all, if you put the effort into creating something so amazing, you don’t want your boxes to start popping apart!

I’m so excited about the possibilities of what can be put inside of the boxes to help count down the days until Christmas.

  • Christmas candies
  • Small toys
  • Daily activities
  • Service project ideas
  • Christmas stories

I’m still not quite sure which route I will take with mine, but I’m toying with the idea of making a “treasure hunt”, having a different clue each day, with the final prize being a new tradition of a mini album where my husband and I will write an annual letter to our children. Oh and there will be candy at the finish of course, for our short peeps who will be less than thrilled with a gooshy letter from mom and dad!

Whatever we end up doing, I know it will bring a smile to my kids’ faces and make the count down to Christmas just a little more exciting!

Oh and you can better believe that once Christmas is over I’ll be making a countdown for the next big event! The possibilities are endless.

  • Birthdays
  • Easter
  • Summer Vacation
  • Family Trip
  • Halloween
  • Birthdays

Or you can even just leave it as a darling decoration for a shelf!

Whatever you decide, we’d love to see what you create! Feel free to post your creations to our Facebook fan page for all of us to oooh and ahhh over.

Have a happy Black Friday and wonderful weekend!
