Sassafras Lass | Mid Week Mojo

Opal Club — Layout 3

I truly cannot even begin to tell you how wonderful it was to create this weeks Mid Week Mojo, during the crop, amongst people I dearly love. Funny thing is that I went to the crop somewhat unprepared and did not have a single photo with me. I grabbed one of today’s Sassafras Lass Collection Kits, which I knew I would be working with, and turned to my neighbor, Heather Conklin and asked her if she would let me scrap a layout for her. The combination of the colors in the photo of her little Isla, along with the amazing scheme in the Broadcast Sunshine collection were meant to be.

I love the teals and grey complimented by the yellows and pinks. In fact I have to say that this is my favorite Sass collection ever, and I’m so pleased that I was able to use it on such an adorable photo.

Now if I could just somehow morph Heather’s beautiful handwriting into my own, I’d be set. :)

I also want to take a moment and let you all know how much seeing the creations that you make based off of my sketches each week means to me. I was filled with so much happiness and joy over the weekend as I saw many of the versions of Opal 2 come to pass before my very eyes. I love that I can inspire and somehow, even though it be in a very small way, have a part of your family history preservation. Thanks to you all for sharing your creations, your talents and your time with us.

And now it’s time for our weekly random winner. Congrats are in order for Brettany Quinton.

Sassafras Paper Whimsies

It’s that time of the week where I get to nurture my crafting side. Today’s steal, the Paper Whimsies by Sassafras offered me such a fun array of crafting ideas.

I know most mommies are always struggling with finding ways to keep their kiddos motivated for one thing or another be it potty training, doing jobs or my current challenge with my 4-year-old to flush the toilet. Reward charts are a great way to keep the incentive going to accomplish a task or to form a habit.

In  the past I’ve often gone with a basic sticker chart with 25 spots to fill in. This allows enough time for a habit to be formed and then a prize can be awarded. However, seeing a chart with 25 empty spots can seem a little intimidating to any short person I’m sure. That’s why I decided to make a garden incentive chart with five flowers. When the garden is fully planted by accomplishing a task then the “one” card is put into place across the top. Plant the garden again by accomplishing tasks, then the “two” card is put into place. Once the garden is planted five times then it’s reward time! The Paper Whimsies were perfect for creating this simple chart.

Here’s what you’ll need.

  • Craft foam measuring 18 x 12″
  • Spray adhesive
  • Paper Whimsies
  • Magnets (such as Basic Grey magnet snaps)
  • Scrap paper
  • Ribbons and buttons to embellish

Step 1:

Cut out grass to go across bottom of foam. Use spray adhesive to attach paper to the bottom of the foam.

Step 2:

Cut out flower stems. Attach in the grassy area with spray adhesive.

Step 3:

Cut out a library card style pocket 4×6″ to hold the flowers and numbers when not in use. Adhere to the left side of the foam at the bottom using spray adhesive.

Step 4:

Cut out pieces of paper measuring 2 1/4 x 3 1/4″.  Round the edges and adhere to the top of the foam.

Step 5:

Attach either the positive or negative magnet to the top of the flower stems and attach the opposite to the backside of the Paper Whimsie flowers. Do the same process in the center of the paper rectangles at the top of the chart and the backsides of the Paper Whimsie number cards.

Step 6:

Cut out a sunshine and adhere to the upper right hand corner of chart.

Step 7:

Embellish project as desired.

You can then attach magnets to the backside of the chart and place on the front of your refrigerator or simply place in an area which will maintain interest for your child.

I then decided to create a girls’ room wall hanging using some of the Paper Whimsies rectangle cards and a flower. All I needed for this project was the Paper Whimsies, spray adhesive, a canvas and some buttons. I simply arranged the Whimsies how I liked and glued them down. This project took me no more than 10 min. and would make a fantastic baby shower gift.

I’ve gotta hand it to Sassafras! Well done on another product!

We’ll see you Monday for some Monday Card Madness.

Sassafras Stitch Blossoms | Monday Card Madness #40

Sassafras Stitch Blossoms | Monday Card Madness #40

Okay girls, bear with me while I shout from the rooftops exactly how much I love today’s steal! Not only are they beautiful, cute, simple, stunning and colorful, but today’s steal the Sassafras Stitch Blossoms are the perfect addition to so many different projects. I had such a great time using them on today’s card sketch that I couldn’t stop at making one card but had to make five!

The first card I made, became the inspiration for the remaning cards. I loved the flow of the design of the paper and recreated it with my remaining cards.

Now here’s a little fun tidbit — when I was creating cards I quite literally reached blindly into my paper kit collections and pulled out random paper kits to work with. The Stitch Blossoms are so amazing — in the fact that they come in such a variety of colors that I found flowers to match with every collection that I randomly picked to work with.

If that isn’t the sign of a perfect embellishment to add to your collection then I certainly don’t know what is.  :)

Don’t forget to have this week’s card sketch posted to our Facebook fan page or your own personal blog by
August 5th at 11:59 pm in order to be eligible for the July random drawing.

For those of you that participated in the second card swap, I can’t even begin to tell you how fantastic they are. They will be heading out to each of you in the next week so be on the lookout for some happy mail.

If you missed out on the most recent card swap, don’t fear! I can’t help myself and want to organize another swap right away! Here are the details.

  • Create 10 cards. They can all be the same or each can be different.
  • All cards must include an envelope.
  • Cards must be received to the ScrapbookSteals warehouse by August 31st. (ScrapbookSteals, Attn: Card Swap, 2181 California, #400, SLC, UT  84104
  • Once your cards have been sent in the mail, please send me an email to kristy@stealnetwork.com, to let me know that I need to be on the lookout for your amazing creations. I will then randomly re-distribute the cards and mail back 10 different cards to each participant.

Don’t forget the ongoing challenge to send out joy! I know I need to get busy and get writing some cards myself. I hope you have a wonderful Monday!
