October Afternoon

October Afternoon Holiday Style | Monday CRAFT Madness

Today’s steal, the October Afternoon Holiday Style, was the inspiration for an exciting change of events in the ScrapbookSteals.com lineup.

Today is our FIRST Monday Craft Madness! We’re putting a spin on the traditional Monday Card Madness by giving you a theme/sketch each week and allowing you to create any project (a card, layout, altered project, or any other craft your heart desires!) as long as it fits the theme.

Let’s get started! This week’s theme is:

Christmas & Holiday!

I was extra excited when I saw this collection in person and saw just how super cute it is. There are lots of bright colors and patterns and so  many embellishments included in the kit.  It was hard to know when to stop creating! I created a sketch you can use for inspiration for cards of layouts if that is the type of project you choose.

There are so many fun papers, journaling cards, stickers, buttons, ribbon, and twine that I wanted to use it all!

I love the typical Christmas colors of green and red and these papers went together perfectly. I used of all the papers and embellishments, and a few of my own. I added some glitter, gems, snowflakes, and embroidery floss  … and voilà!

The holidays always make me think of snow, too. (I can’t imagine why when I live in Park City!) This collection also contains snowy papers and colors and the cute pompom trim. I used the same sketch for this card, adding stitching to represent one of the layers instead of paper.

As always, I love to flip a sketch! I love how they can be adapted to suit your needs. I turned the sketch on its side to accommodate my December journal card. I added the flower embellishment underneath my button and moved the sentiment sticker to the right hand side. But as you can see, it is still the same sketch!

There are so many fun pieces in this collection, the  possibilities really are endless. I hope you enjoy!

We’re so excited to get the new MCM going! The rules are  still the same– you have until the last Thursday of the month to create and share your project using any of the themes or sketches we provide. We’ll choose a random winner and they’ll be the lucky recipient of a $20 ScrapbookSteals.com gift code at the end of the month! Just note that this is separate from Mid Week Mojo, so you’ll have at least two fun projects a week you can dive into. :)

Don’t forget to check back in with us tomorrow for a fun How To’sday post!

October Afternoon Sasparilla Collection

Howdy ladies! Today is all about October Afternoon’s Sasparilla Collection Kit – country fairs, cowboy hats, and lots of “giddy up” fun! Fall Design Team member Julie Koets shows us a cute way to turn today’s steal into adorable, fun layouts – and she’s also thrown in a few cards to inspire you too!

• • • • •

When I learned  that I’d get to work with the Sasparilla collection from October Afternoon, I think I may have let out a “yee haw!”  I am a cowgirl at heart and was thrilled to dig in to this fun collection.  Obviously, these papers and embellishments work well with all of your “typical” cowboy and western style photos (horseback riding, pony rides at the zoo, wild west adventures).  I think they would also be great for a cowboy themed party or make adorable nursery decorations for a little buckaroo.  I love the denim paper, little flyers, and the chip n’ stick embellishments that I showcased on this layout:

And if you’re not a cowboy or cowgirl, have no fear. The earthy home style prints work perfectly for lots of other events.  I used the alpha stickers, fun trims from the wrap pack, and lots of journaling cards to document a family trip to the fair:

While some of the prints are definitely western themed, the “b sides” are super versatile and can be used for so much more. I just had to put together one more layout using the fun teal and gray papers.  I fussy cut the cloud from a piece of patterned paper and layered up some flower sack embellishments for this laid back layout:

For all of you card makers, these prints are fun and bold and can be great for masculine cards.  I used some of my scraps and threw together these simple cards:

Thanks so much for checking out my design team projects this month!

Julie – I just love your layouts! The papers and embellishments are so much fun, and I love how you have shown their versatility. The cards are super cute too! I love the masculine feel to them and just wish I could throw together such great cards like this. Thanks for stopping by everyone and be sure to tune in again on Monday for an exciting spin on MCM!

October Afternoon Rocket Age Collection | Mid Week Mojo

Pearl – Layout 9

While I already think anything October Afternoon makes is “out of this world,” I think today’s steal, the October Rocket Age Collection, is like the freeze dried ice cream of the astronaut’s diet. Absolutely yummy! :)

Today we’re in for a double dose of wonderful as we’re treated to the delights of this month’s guest sketcher, Erica Bass. It’s always so fun to see what wonderful talents our happy ScrapbookSteals.com community has to offer.

When I was asked to be the ScrapbookSteals guest sketcher the converstation went like this:

Kristy Lee: Sooooo….. How do you feel about being the Guest Sketcher for ScrapbookSteals in September?  C’mon.  I know you wanna.  <3 Let us know!  :)

Erica Bass: Ummmm…. Let me think about that for two seconds….. Uh, yeah! I’m super psyched! Details please? 😀

I’m still super psyched to be sharing October Afternoon Rocket Age with you! This line has the feel of a vintage T-shirt. It has slightly muted brights combined with deep blues and soft vanillas. It was so fun to work with. The hardest part was narrowing down which pictures to use for the sketch because I had so many that would work with this line.

I was really excited that this kit comes with a 12 x 12 sheet of Chip ‘n Stick chipboard stickers and a package of super cute rubber charms. I had to wrestle it away from my son a couple times!

Like I said, I really had a hard time choosing which pictures to scrap, so I made up one more sketch for you.

The label sticker sheets are so convenient for adding a little extra touch. Here I used the small labels to create a word collage.

I really enjoyed working with October Afternoon’s Rocket Age! I can’t wait to see all of the different interpretations of the sketches this week!

October Afternoon Woodland Park | Mid Week Mojo

Pearl – Layout 8

Some days I have to pinch myself. Why, you ask? Well, because of days like today when I realize how lucky I am to have a job scapbooking. Especially when I get to play with such stunning products, like today’s steal, The October Afternoon—Woodland Park collection. The rich colors and exquisite prints are a strong foundation for an amazing creation. I think it would be really, really hard to make anything less than perfect with this collection.

When I posted this Instagram photo to Facebook last week, a friend said it would be perfect for a Mid Week Mojo!  Little did she know how perfectly it would work with the Woodland Park Collection. My heart positively swoons over this collection as it is equally as perfect for boys and girls. I’m just afraid that my layout today doesn’t do it true justice!

As always, the October Afternoon collections are filled with amazing embellishments and papers. I knew I had to use the chevron paper as chevrons are kinda my obsession. I layered my photo on several sheets of paper, and then just kept adding. Whether that is a good or bad is yet to be determined, but how can you resist piling it on when everything is so divine?

The chipboard embellies and buttons always add a nice touch to a project as well.

I used the cardstock letter stickers for the title. I love how easily they move around for the indecisive soul that can’t quite determine where to put a title. (Yeah, that would be me.) I must admit that I’m not super fond of mixing wild prints for a title so for the letter “Y” I simply added some mist to it to give it a more solid color.

So there you have it! Like I said, I’m not sure if I did this collection justice or not. I do know I’ll be adding this collection to my stash in a heartbeat! It’s AMAZING.

Speaking of amazing, this is the layout by last week’s random winner, Marisa Torp!

It’s crazy how time flies! I remember when Marisa’s little guy was just an itty-bitty. It’s so much fun seeing all of your families grow up! Watch out Marisa, pretty soon you’ll be doing the kindergarten thing just like me! :) Marissa, please send an email to service@stealnetwork.com letting them know you are our winner and we will be happy to get some fun swag sent your way.

Have a great day and fabulous rest of the week!

Don’t forget if you want to throw your hat into the Fall Term Design Team ring, applications are due by Friday at 11:59pm!

October Afternoon Cakewalk Collection | Mid Week Mojo

Pearl – Layout 4

Mid Week Mojo is definitely the highlight of the week. It’s such a cakewalk to use a sketch as your springboard for weekly inspiration. What’s an even bigger cakewalk is when you get to pair a darling sketch with today’s steal, the October Afternoon Cakewalk Collection. This week the incredibly talented, beautiful, and downright fun Jennifer McDermott has graciously accepted the invitation to provide a sketch and inspiration. Let’s just say you’re in for a treat!

• • • • •

I am so very thrilled to be the guest sketcher for August.  I started doing Mid Week Mojo with #4 and have gotten so much inspiration from Kristy and the guest sketchers since then.

When I heard I would be working with October Afternoon’s Cakewalk I may have let out a huge squeal of excitement.  It is a GORGEOUS collection and was so much fun to work with!  Here’s my first sketch:

And here’s my take on the sketch:

I thought pictures from my oldest son’s first birthday would work marvelously with the papers.

The scrappy mojo was flowing and I just had to make another layout.

This time I wanted to show how the collection can be used for more than just birthday themes, so I did this layout of my sweet Fiona girl:

Cardmakers (and wannabe cardmakers alike) will get so much usage from this collection. I whipped these cards together in record time.

I wasn’t ready to stop playing, so I fired up my Cameo and cut out this gift card holder using a Lori Whitlock file. Perfect way to dress up a boring gift card!

Thank you so much to Scrapbook Steals and the incomparable Kristy Lee for letting me take a turn as guest sketcher.  It has truly been my pleasure!

• • • • •

Jen, your projects are fantastic! I’m not sure if I should thank you or not for being our guest today… I sense my wallet becoming just a wee bit lighter thanks to you. :)

Honestly, it was such a joy to work with you, even if you had to deal with my crazy this month! You’re the best!

Now it’s time to announce our two lucky random winners for the Pearl #3 sketch.

Michelle Duffy, you are our first winner!

And the second lucky gal is Sara Rusek!

You girls and your layouts are amazing! It’s been a true treat this week to see the two-pagers pour in. As fearful as I am of a two-pager, I think I need to make an effort to make them more often.

Now girls, please email service@stealnetwork.com with your addresses and let them know you are this week’s winner! I hope your scrappy swag will help you create more amazing creations.

Have a great day and be sure to check in on Friday for Design Team member Katrina Hunt’s August projects!
