Authentique Blissful | Mid Week Mojo

Amethyst – Layout 8

It was blissful to create a very special to me layout, using my favorite collection by Authentique—Blissful. All in all it made for a very therapeutic creative session. The yellows and greys in today’s steal are so soothing to me and paired perfectly with a layout about how perfectly imperfect I am! Hey, at least something about the layout is perfect. :)

This week we are doing something that was a big treat for me. I was invited by the Authentique design team to create this week’s Mid Week Mojo based off of the Authentique April sketch challenge. Be sure to check out their blog for additional interpretations of the sketch!

As soon as I saw the sketch the ideas in my mind started cooking up! I knew that I wanted to morph the sketch to allow for a horizontal photo that I wanted to use as well as make room for a good journaling block since I knew that this week journaling was to be my key factor of the layout.

I put my Cameo to work and decided to see what it would look like to cut out hexagons from my actual photo. I layered two photos, one black and white as the base, and used the color photo as the honeycomb portions of the sketch, layered on top of the base photo. I really felt like this was a good representation of the fact that I am not always perfect and sometimes my life is a little broken up.

I squeezed in a little portion of space for my journaling …

… and finished out my layout with some of the embellishments which are a part of today’s steal.

I don’t know whether this was an important part of my life to document at this particular time or if the perfect combination of a fun sketch and Blissful really struck a chord, but I have to say that this may be my very favorite layout, ever.

Now if you aren’t already followers of the Authentique blog then it’s your lucky day! Why do you ask? Because if you create this week’s sketch then you have two chances to win!

To win from ScrapbookSteals you need to have this week’s Mid Week Mojo sketch posted somewhere on line such as your own personal blog or our Facebook fan page then linked to this blog posting by 11:59 pm on Monday, April 16th. Believe me when I say you want to play along. We give away some pretty sweet swag!

Fancy Pants Beach Babe and Beach Bum | Mid Week Mojo

Amethyst – Layout 7

Hooray for Wednesday! I love Mid Week Mojo and the opportunity that we have each week for a new inspirational layout sketch. I love even more when it’s guest sketcher week because it’s incredibly rewarding to me to turn the reins loose and let one of our amazing community members take the spotlight and shine! I think you’ll agree completely that Kyla Norris has done an exceptional job with the Beach Babe and Beach Bum collections by Fancy Pants. These collections are splendidly sunny and summery and make me want to bust out a paper chain to count down the days until school is out! (Did I really just say that?)

Now it’s turn to sit back, relax and soak in the talents of Kyla.

Hi There! Kyla here, and oh my goodness I can’t say how excited and nervous I am about today! Back in February Kristy contacted me and asked if I would like to create a sketch for the Mid Week Mojo’s. After promptly bursting into tears, being so excited and so happy I answered with a huge YES, I’d Love to!!!

I was absolutely thrilled when I found out that I’d be able to work with both Beach Bum and Beach Babe by Fancy Pants. These collections are so versatile and the colours are vibrant, warm and they make you feel happy by just looking at them! They also come loaded with so many fun goodies to work with that it was hard to know where to get started first!

My family and I live up in Quebec, Canada and the nearest ocean or “real beach” is a good 14 hour plus drive for us—but even with the theme of these kits being beach inspired, they truly work for any layout. I started working with Beach Bum and found some papers with rich greens and blues that would work perfectly with some photos that were taken at our cottage last summer by the lake. All the die cut embellishments were awesome to accent the photos, and I was able to keep a woodsy/cottagey feel to the layout with the trees, cloud, sunshine and water wave pieces.

I had more photos of Oliver throwing cups of water around at the cottage so I created a second page, this time using the Beach Bum paper flowers and brads as accents.

Next I moved on to Beach Babe. I seriously adored the fun summery pinks, blues and oranges in this collection. I really wanted to come up with a way to show how summery papers can still be used for non summery photos. Enter Canadian Winter! On Family Day this year, we ventured out to visit Winterlude, our local winter festival. With photos of snow sculptures in mind, here is the second sketch for this week.

To “freeze” up the warm colours of the Beach Babe papers, I heat embossed all the edges with clear sparkly, and silver embossing powders and used some Shimmerz paint. The blue fuzzy trim doubles as snow balls and I used the wave rub on to look like a blustery wintery wind while the blue flower rub on in the top corner and the starfish on the bottom could be mistaken for snowflakes *wink*.

I couldn’t just stop there, there are so many cute things to work with in these kits, I wanted to create some more. While chit chatting about today, Kristy had told me awhile back that today is extra special, as it’s her darling girl’s Birthday! With that in mind, I wanted to use some Beach Babe chipboard banner pieces and ribbon to make a card for the Birthday Girl! A Thank You card came together with some more chipboard pieces, ribbon and brads.

Along with all the amazing embellies, I was able to work with the Summer Soiree Stamps. Using some distress inks and embossing techniques, I used some stamps to make an Anniversary card for my Mum and Dad. I also used some embossing powders and the stamps on this layout I put together.

A few fellow Scrappy Sisters and I started a Circle Journal many months ago, for my “page” I used some more Beach Babe. I loved the older girly pattern and the die cut flowers and mini brads were super cute to add a little detail.

Last but not least, I combined both Beach Bum and Beach Babe together to make a 6×6 Mini Album for summer photos! The two different collections blend so well together! I used some past MWM sketches to create some pages and then used the Cinch to bind it all!

I can’t wait to see what everyone creates this week and Thank you so much for letting me be a part of the Mid Week Mojo Experience!

Fancy Pants It’s the Little Things | Mid Week Mojo

Amethyst – Layout 3

You’re working on that perfect scrapbook layout and it’s just not coming together how you’d like. You’ve tried a little of this and a little of that and still aren’t quite happy. Well maybe it’s time you try out today’s steal, Fancy Pants, It’s the Little Things, because sometimes it is the little things that make a project perfect! And today our astonishing guest sketcher, Melissa Dehne, shows us just how perfect the little things can be.

Yes! Oui! Ja! ¡Sí! It doesn’t matter which language you say it in, when Kristy asked me to be the guest designer for March, I knew what my answer was ― a resounding YES! I am so grateful to have been given the opportunity. ScrapbookSteals has truly what have inspired me to create over the past three years. The community that has been built here is one that I will be forever grateful for! So, it is with deepest appreciation that I say thank you for leading me on my scrapbook journey, it has been such a fun ride so far!

I had the privilege to create with this incredible collection by Fancy Pants called It’s the Little Things. What a treat! This kit was loaded with embellishments and the double sided papers made it very hard to choose which side to use. I really wanted to create a few things that showcased the gorgeous colors and tones of the collection along with the extraordinary (and plentiful) embellishments.

To start with, I created a layout using a photo of my sweet daughter who is by far, my most willingly photographed subject in the house.

Melissa Dehne

I took this photo in the middle of  January in Wisconsin. Our lack of snow has made for some great outdoor winter photos, minus the snow of course! I changed the tone of my photo to a more antique look because I really wanted the papers to shine on the layout. I love the papers and how they all coordinate together. It is impossible to go wrong when mixing any of them together, they are all so complimentary. It was also fun to choose which embellishments to highlight for this project. As I said, it comes fully loaded! The kit comes with a variety of chipboard banner shapes but I chose to use some of the smaller chipboard shapes to create this banner. The pack of three kinds of ribbon is fun in that each of the three ribbon is made from a different texture which really adds some depth to your project. The glitter cuts were an added bonus that I really loved as well. They were so cute and easy to use. Additionally, I’ve created a sketch (utilizing my amazing Silhouette machine) for you to use if you’d like to give the Mid Week Mojo a try this week!

Since the kit was just too fun to make just one layout, I made one more! I also wanted to show you that the kit is really versatile for either gender.

The border strips were one of my favorite features on one side of the paper. I made sure to use a few of them on this quick layout I made of my son reading. Here is a sketch for this layout as well if you are interested.

Lastly, although I am not a huge card maker, I thought I’d put together some cards to show some of the additional papers as well as the gorgeous transparency which is included in the kit! On this card, I created a tag using the transparency and some glitter cuts and then attached it to the little notecard using some twine.

Here are the final two:

Echo Park This and That | Mid Week Mojo

Amethyst – Layout 2

Over the years I’ve tried to eliminate my need to be a scrapbook supply hoarder, but today’s steal, the Echo Park This & That Collections, which are a brand new Winter CHA releases, are definitely going to find their way into my pile. :)

You can bet I wasn’t shedding any tears over the fact that I had to create the Amethyst #2 Mid Week Mojo using This and That. The hardest part was trying to decide what photos exactly I should let grace the opportunity of being paired with the glorious papers! I pretty much knew I wanted to create a page with the Charming collection so I plotted a date with my boy.

I know it probably sounds like I say the same things over and over when there is a collection that I love, but I truly could just gush about the This and That collections. I love the fact that the embellishments compliment so perfectly the papers and the letter stickers make creating a title a snap. Oh and how perfect that the Charming collection even comes with numbered brads that I could add to my page to tie in with the journaling of .45 cent wing day on Tuesdays. :)

Now it’s that exceptionally exciting time to announce the lucky winners of our latest online crop! I have been absolutely astounded with all of the crafty magic that has been gracing our Facebook fan page. I truly wish that I had had the time to comment on each and every individual layout, but wow, there were a lot! So exciting to think of all of the pages that are filling up the albums in so many different homes.

And now without further adieu here are the lucky random winners for our challenges 1-4 and our chat issued scavenger hunt.

Charity Becker is the ever-so-talented winner of our Amethyst #1 sketch which also paired as challenge #1 for the online crop. Her pages are always a treat to see and her talents for vintage/shabby are top notch!

The winner of the crop challenge #2, “Keeping it Real”, is Melissa Dehne. I love the peek into Melissa’s life seeing how many books grace the shelves and counters in her home!

Becky Back is the lucky winner of Challenge #3, which was to “Scrap that Stash.” Don’t you agree that she has a wonderful crafting area?

For our final challenge, “Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue,” Jen McDermott created this positively darling card.

And for those of you that were able to join in on the fun of our online chat and were given the details for the scavenger hunt, you can help me congratulate Jessica Arrant, as the lucky winner! Look! She even shared her brownie with me. :)

Girls if you will each take a moment and send an email to, letting them know that you are a winner of the on-line crop challenges, we will be happy to get a prize sent out to you.

Good luck creating this week girls. Also be sure to check in tomorrow as we have an amazing guest blogger in the lineup.

My Mind’s Eye Miss Caroline | Mid Week Mojo

Garnet – Layout 10

Can you believe that we have reached the end of yet another gem series in our Mid Week Mojo layout sketch series? It’s always an exciting thing to come to the end of another ten weeks, and what makes it even more exciting is that this weeks sketch is completed with today’s steal, two of the brand new collections by My Mind’s Eye, Miss Caroline.

I knew that I wanted to keep this week fairly simple as I’m sure that once you see what prize we are giving away for the Garnet series, there will be a bunch of you on the quest to catch up, so I settled on a one page layout about my Sarah.

My daughter Sarah is such a talented and beautiful young lady (do I sound like a proud mom or what?) On Monday night we were privileged to hear her perform at her clarinet recital. As I was shooting photos during her performance I realized how perfectly the Fiddlesticks and Dolled Up collections would work with the yellows and turquoises in the photos, and thus my layout was born.

My Mind’s Eye always does an amazing job with their embellishments, which bring the perfect finishing touches to a project. I think the twine and the stick pins are definitely my favorite!

And now for our weekly random winner! I absolutely loved seeing the interpretations of the twelve photo sketch from last week, and Sheryl Kloke layout was of no exception!

Garnet 9 Winner

Congrats Sheryl on being this week’s lucky random winner. If you will please send an email with your address to we will get your Garnet #9 prize sent out to you.
