My Mind’s Eye The Sweetest Thing | Monday Card Madness #99

I hope you all had a great weekend! I sure did as I was able to get scrappy with today’s steal, the My Mind’s Eye—The Sweetest Thing,  Lavender Collection. I go weak at the knees because it’s My Mind’s Eye alone, but add the gorgeous pinks, greens, yellows polka dots and chevrons, and I’m beyond smitten! In fact, don’t tell my husband but perhaps the “headache” I had so we couldn’t go out was a little “lavender” induced. Shhhh!

This week card sketch was inspired by the use of the embellishments in the Lavender collection.

I was immediately drawn to the circle embellishment on the top of the polka dot banner, and so my first card and basis of the sketch was created.

For the next card I couldn’t resist using the pink chevron paper. I’m so in love with chevrons right now, and this paper is pink, so it’s kind of like the best of the best of the best!

On my third card I decided to show off one of the darling crochet doilies. Crochet is certainly an art that I know nothing about so I’m kind of grateful that My Mind’s Eye has brought the beauty to me!

The next card I made I put to use some of the chipboard embellishments and added a little butterfly that I cut out on my Cameo.

As I threw the previous card down on my desk it landed rotated by 45 degrees and I realized how great this sketch works rotated clockwise by one turn.

I cannot wait to put the rest of the papers to use on a layout! In fact I love this collection I very well may need to steal a back up for when the scraps run low.

I’ve loved seeing your cards this past week. It kind of boggles my mind that we are nearing the end of not only another month but ONE HUNDRED weeks of Monday Card Madness sketches.

Martha Stewart Edge Punches | Monday Card Madness #97

So you think there are enough punches in your stash to last a lifetime? Well, I’m pretty sure if you took 2.3 seconds to play with today’s steal, Martha Stewart Edge Punches, you’d be seriously reconsidering your thoughts about just how long a lifetime is. They come in timeless designs and fold up perfectly for storage. Yeah, I’m in love!

That Martha. She’s pretty much the bomb salad of punch making. (That’s a good thing!)

Given the fact that I was working with punches for cards this week I had a hard time going with a particular sketch. Punches are just perfect to modify ideas on a whim!

I used the Blossom Eyelet punch to create a trim to go down the length of my first card.  I then added a little washi and some embellies.

Next, I wanted to create a double border of eyelet blossoms so I punched down both sides of a strip of paper. I then got a little crazy with my washi collection and taped random colors beneath the flowers punch outs to create a subtle splash of color. I think this is one of my favorite washi uses yet!

I then used the same punch to create the edge of this card so that the inside pattern of the paper can peek through to match the strip on the left hand side. (I kinda really like this one!)

Then I switched gears to the Laurel Leaf edge punch. I’m gonna be honest — I think this is one of my very favorite punches to date! Such a great addition to so many projects!

I went simple and used this punch to make a basic border running the length of the card.

Then the crafty gears got spinning and I thought it would be fun to punch so that the leaf trim didn’t come completely unattached, but rather keep it attached to the paper I was punching from.

I then applied the same method to the base of this card and loved it so much that this is the official card for this week’s sketch!

Yup. I’m pretty pleased that these punches are now taking up minimal space in my crafty room. A great purchase indeed!

For those of you that don’t know already, we love to give things away here at ScrapbookSteals.com!

Fiskars Everywhere Punch Window System | Monday Card Madness #95

I’m sure hope I’m not the only one that sometimes gets crafty-lazy. The thought of making windows by carefully making cuts with my paper trimmer or plotting exact measurements on my Silhouette kind of makes my brain wiggle.  With today’s steal, the brilliant Fiskars Everywhere Punch Window System, that’s no problem. With a simple 1-2-3 you can punch that window wherever you want! Better yet, it takes up hardly any space and is perfect for projects on the go.

I decided that I wanted to show how the punch system could work for a series of windows, so I used the fun flower punch to create this tri-flower window card.

I then used the square punch and created a similar card. You might notice how adding a few pop dots behind the window panel makes the card rich with dimension.

I then thought how cute it would be to use the flower punch around the edge of a piece of paper as sort of a “chomp”. Because I couldn’t come up with a cute “chomp” type sentiment it sort of morphed into this unique congrats card. I kind of like how it turned out!

Martha Stewart Crafts Glitter | Monday Card Madness #94

Martha, Martha, Martha. That crafty diva has taken glitter to the next level with today’s steal, the Martha Stewart Crafts Glitter 12 Pack. Cardmaking aside, I can see lots of uses for this glitter. The fun shapes will make the perfect topper for my pedicure and fun new flair the “tooth fairy” will undoubtedly be leaving her dust beneath a pillow sometime soon.

On Saturday I had the pleasure of scrapbooking at a local store with a 8 other local ScrapbookSteals fans. It was a fantastic day and I had a great time putting the Martha Stewart glitter to use, and even got Kerys Sharrock and Deb Routledge to put their own twist on today’s steal.

I knew I wanted to create some sort of a “shaker box” for today’s cards since the glitter is almost more of a confetti type glitter.I created the base of my card then used my 2″ circle punch to make a window in the card. I cut a piece of the plastic from a set of my Thickers and with the help of a little washi tape, created a nice pocket/window to fill with glitter. After filling it, I simply taped it to the inside of the card.

I just have to say how perfectly the My Mind’s Eye Lime Twist collections work with these glitters!

I then tried something a little different and applied glue to the circles on the front of this card. I added different colors of glitter hearts and came up with this card.

Deb Routledge made this card off the top of her head. The paper piecing is brilliant! Not to mention such fun heart confetti water. And in the words of my five year old “this card is beautiful.”

Design Team member, Kerys Sharrock made this darling snowman card with a spin on the sketch for today. I love the window with stars in the snowman’s belly.

Basic Grey Hopscotch | Monday Card Madness #93

Ahhhh, the lazy days of summer. Today’s steal, the Basic Grey Hopscotch collection, takes me back to the days when the thrill of the summer was someone getting a new Hopscotch board painted on their driveway, and the smell of a brand new swirly hoppy taw. Sure, this probably dates me, but those are fond memories of my summer vacations clear back in the ::gasp:: 70′s.

While the Hopscotch collection makes me reminisce of my youth, there is absolutely nothing vintage 70′s about these papers. It’s such a whimsical, fun collection that evokes simpler times.

This collection is so much fun to play with! It was a collection I thought was really cute, but wow, once I got chopping the papers I didn’t want to stop!

I love the Basic Grey Ribbon Doilies and used them as the foundation of my card design. I started with the pennant design and came up with this card.

I love the pink butterfly/flower inspired trim and used it on my next card.

Of course I couldn’t leave the final doily trim unloved, so made this cute little “love you” card.

The chipboard pieces are won-der-ful. They actually stick and come in such a wide variety of shapes and designs. I used some of the border pieces to mimic the idea of the doilies in the previous cards.

Thank you, Basic Grey, for that fun and carefree crafting session!

Don’t forget there is a little more time to participate in the We R Memory Keepers Operation Write Home Card Drive. As a little incentive and a huge thank you to those participating, we have a lovely Red White and Blue Stack Pack that will be given to one random winner who participates in the Operation Write Home Card Drive.
