Mini’s, Matchbook Making Mania & Monday Card Madness! Wow that’s a lot of mmmmmmmmmm’s…..

…..and I’m tellin’ ya straight up that Today’s Steal, the DCWV Matchmaker and Textured Card Kits are FANTASTIC!   I know it’s that time of year where you start to question ‘do I need this, or my Starbucks (or for me my Diet Dr. Pepper!), or stocking stuffers for my kids.  Guess what.  You NEED this.  I haven’t had this much fun card creating in positively AGES!  My kids would keep coming into my work room and there I sat with this perma-cheesy grin on my face.  Yeah.  They thought perhaps I was enjoying myself just a little *too* much, but you’ll see why.

When I saw the adorable little cards I immediately though ‘GIFT TAGS’.  Seriously.  How perfect to have a pre-made…itty bitty 3×3 card WITH an itty bitty envelope!  (Why oh why does itty bitty = cuteness?)  Hee hee!  Let me show you the first round of gift tag cards that I made.  Of course I can’t seem to break away from the Holiday mode right now, especially since I was singing along to my new Glee Christmas album at the top of my lungs while creating these!

Do you want to know the thing I LOVE about these little cards?  It’s how little product it takes to actually make something stunning.  Not to mention you get the chance to use up odds and ends that otherwise would have been collecting dust!  Take for instance the green card with the red snowflake.  I bought that snowflake set to finish off a layout 14 months ago.  I only used one on the page, so it’s been nice to have little projects to use up the rest of my stash!

I realize that it’s not always going to be the Holiday season (which I’m sure my kids are grateful for as I’m not entirely sure how much singing from their mother they can take), so I decided to make a couple of birthday tag cards…

…a thank you card…

…and a congrats card!  All using up bits and pieces of my stash.

Now that particular card kit isn’t only filled with darling mini’s but matchbook style cards.  We had so much fun making gatefold cards, that I decided that would be the format of this weeks card sketch.

(To create your own matchbook card, if you just can’t stand it and want to make your MCM TODAY, cut a piece of paper measuring 11.5 x 4.25″.  This will allow you a small margin for cutting scallops.  Make one fold 4.25″ from left hand side of card, and the smaller fold 1.5″ from right hand side of card).

For some reason these cards kind of screamed girly to me with the scalloped edges, so I went with it.  I made some frilly, ribbony, flowery cards for this weeks sketch, which will work so great for so many different occasions.  Thank you, thinking of you, wedding, birthday, shower….you name it!  You just may want to think once or twice before giving your hunny a flowery, ribbony card, because odds are, he may not appreciate the thought quite as much as a manly card!  :)

Well, now that it’s December it’s time to pick a random winner of all of the MCM cards that I made during the month of November.  Our lucky winner is Linda Hernandez!  Here is her lucky card that was the Random.Org winner!

I absolutely adore the color scheme on this card.  LOVE me some pink and brown and the little pops of green in the flowers are perfect!

Now get creating girls!  It’s always such a joy to see what you create.  I know I’ve told you before, but you all inspire me so very much.  If ever I’m feeling like creating is the last thing on earth I’d like to do all it takes is 5 min. of pouring over your wonderful creations on our Facebook Fan Page, to want to toss my short boy a box of Cheerios and a case of Capri Sun to keep him entertained for a bit.  😉

Remember you have ALL MONTH LONG to get the December card sketches created and posted to our Facebook Fan page, or your own personal blog, with a link provided on the appropriate blog posting to be eligible to win all of the cards that I make for sketches during the previous month.  One note to keep in mind however, is that comments automatically close 3 weeks after the posting date, in order to help control our insane amount of spam.  If for whatever reason comments are closed, I give you permission to post the link on one of the open MCM’s with an explanation that it’s really for a different sketch number.

Hope you weekend was great!  Now to start thinking about MWM, although I have to admit…..I’m a little intimidated after Chloe’s amazing sketches last week.  😉

Happy scrappin’.

American Crafts Dear Lizzy Christmas Cards & Monday Card Madness #7

American Crafts Dear Lizzy Christmas Cards & Monday Card Madness #7

Well what do you know!  It’s Monday again!  I don’t know about you, but those weekends always seem to fly by a little too quickly.  I’ll admit however, that I do look forward to Monday’s now with a little more enthusiasm knowing that my day will be filled with creating!

I was so excited to get to play with today’s steal, the American Crafts Dear Lizzy Christmas Card Kit.   It honestly stunned me a little when I figured out that Christmas is a mere 40 days away!  EEEEK!  That means a lot of shopping, wrapping, baking, party going, neighbor gifting, decorating, and let’s not forget CARD MAKING is upon us!

I cannot even begin to express how much I love the Dear Lizzy Christmas card kit for the mere fact that it includes enough cards to put a huge dent in my send out list, as well as the fact that they go together in a snap!  I love the fact that they still possess the hand made factor without all of the brain power, because the truth is, at this time of year, my brain starts to shrivel up….just a little bit.

I wanted to show how versatile these cards can be.

I always feel like adding a little bit of ink to projects adds a whole lot of character.  On this particular card I added a little silver ink around the edges of the center embellishment.

I then added some glue to the snowflake…

And covered it with clear Doodlebug, Sugar Coated Glitter.

I really love how adding the ink and glitter adds a personal touch this card.

I then decided to add a little embossing powder to the edges of center embellishment on this card, and as much as I love the red ribbon that came with the kit, I added silver ribbon to this card to compliment the embossing powder….

For this card, I simply added a row of ribbon behind the embellishment, across the center of the card….

I had so much fun with the embossing powders that I added some snow flakes to the front of this card….

And to this card I added a few buttons…

I love the sentiment stamps that come with the kit.  Two fantastic choices to finish off some seriously cute cards!

I let these cards inspire me for this weeks Monday Card Madness.  I went with the ‘Merry’ card as I really loved how the background was made up of 4 squares.

I took the idea, plowed through my stash of stuff and made a card for my hunny for our upcoming 18th Wedding Anniversary this weekend.

Sure it’s a little girly, but it’s the thought that matters….right?

We have absolutely LOVED seeing what you all create.  Our Facebook Fan Photos are positively dripping with inspiraiton.

Don’t forget to create your cards, post them to Facebook, or personal blog and share a link with us here on this blog post.

At the end of the month I will do a random drawing from all of the participants in the Monday Card Madness and send out all of the Monday Card Madness cards that I have created this month….with the exception of the card I made for my hunny!  I will send out the 5 Holiday cards instead.  Hee hee.

Until Wednesday….happy scrappin’!

I think there is a little Chill in the Air…MCM #6

I think there is a little Chill in the Air…MCM #6

So I have to tell you that  today is the *perfect* creating weather.  It’s gloomy and doomy outside, so what better way to spend some time than snuggied up creating!

I have been dying all weekend to get my hands on today’s steal, the WINTER Creative Charms Collection.

Even though I despise snow with every ounce of my being (and yes, I even saw the dreaded white stuff flying today), I LOOOOOOOOOOVE snowflake embellishments, and today’s steal is of no exception.

Thankfully that kit alone, saved this weeks MCM.

I’m sure we are all in the same boat from time to time, where being creative kind of hurts your brain.  I feel like mine slipped or something because the creative vibes were sort of a challenge today.  Truth be told, I think it’s the post vacation energy flop.  😉

I really wanted to keep this weeks sketch fairly simple as I am so in love with the snowflake border in the Creative Charms kit, that I wanted to make sure that it was a big focus of the card.  Of course I had to get a little bit busy with my Silhouette and cut out one of the snowflakes that came with the machine.  I added a little silver ink and the amazing Creative Charms bling ‘brrr’, popped a gem brad in the center of the snowflake and sure enough..done!  (Truth be told, I’m feeling a bit better about it right now.  My 13 year old just walked in and ooohed and ahhhhhhhhhd over it.  What a good girl.  Or maybe I just have her trained well.  HA HA!  😉  )

I then made another card tweaking the sketch slightly.

I also couldn’t resist playing a little more with my Silhouette and decided to download a fun winter tree design.  I added the snowflake gems from the Creative Charms kit as well as some of the gradient gems then finished it off with another blingy sentiment!

Keep your projects coming!  We LOOOOOOOVE seeing what you create.  Remember to have your MCM #6 posted online or to our Facebook Fan Page with a link provided in the comments of this posting for your chance to be eligible to randomly win this months batch of cards.

Monday Card Madness #5

Monday Card Madness #5

I LOVE today’s steal, the Fancy Pants Rusted Sun and My Family card kits.

I’m sure that you are all like me and have days where I want to create but don’t necessarily want to have to *think* about creating.  Simply put, I want someone to give me the goods, the directions and an example of the finished project.  :)

That is where the beauty of the Fancy Pants card kits lies….it’s all at your fingertips, from the papers and embellishments, precise measurements, to a photo of the final look.

I didn’t time myself to see how long it took me to create all of the cards from the Rusted Sun kit, but it didn’t take me long.

After I had finished the cards I chose my favorite of the group to use as inspiration for this weeks card sketch.  I really liked the design of this happy birthday card.  I love the layers of different papers and the addition of the star stickers.

I decided to take the basic design of this card for this weeks sketch, adding a little embellishment to the top, right hand side of the page to complete the visual triangle of embellishments.

I then went to my stash of stuff and used the Bo Bunny pet papers to make this birthday card.

So there you have it!  MCM #5!

We have all been truly spoiled with the cards from last week.  Every week you girls just keep getting better and better and your creativity blossoms by leaps and bounds!

Don’t forget to post your card on our Facebook Fan Page, and leave a comment and a link on this blog post to be eligible to win a random drawing for all of the cards that I make this month…and perhaps a little something extra as well!

Stay tuned the the blog tomorrow afternoon for the announcement of the winners from our on line crop as well as the winner of the cards from MCM 1 – 4!

As always…happy scrappin’!

Welcome to Monday Card Madness!

So what’s that you say?  You’ve got the Monday blues?  Not loving that your routine ‘work’ week has started yet again, and it’s still a few days until Mid Week Mojo?  Well hows this for putting a little brightness in your Monday afternoon.

Welcome to Monday Card Madness!

Now that you’ve got the wee ones all snuggled into bed for a nap (if you’re lucky), or your morning madness at work has hopefully eased up…it’s time to sneak a minute for a little crafty inspiration.

I’ve had a TON of requests to focus on card making, so I figured what better way to start off the week than with an afternoon card blog post.

Sure lots of you have made cards before, but just in case you haven’t, this week we are starting out super basic.

I know that all of you that ever create with paper, are bound to have scraps.  That is my favorite part about card making is that I get to put to use some of those amazing scraps, that I just can’t bare to throw out!

An average sized card is simple to make as it is merely a sheet of 8.5 x 11 piece of paper, cut in half.

Your card base should measure 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″

It’s then helpful to use a scoring blade or bone folder to score your card in the center of the paper.  This makes it easier for folding, although a score mark is not necessary.  You can simply fold the paper in half.

Your finished card size will be 4 1/4″  x 5 1/2″.   You can use this base either vertical or horizontal.

For today’s card I wanted to keep it very simple.  I found a piece of pink paper that I liked with the green base, and laid the paper on top of the front of the card.  I have a quick cheat that I often use in crafting.  I use my fingernail to make a notch in the paper where I’d like to use my trimmer to cut.  You could do the same thing with scissors, but I’m always looking for a way to make things quicker!

I then used my trimmer to cut the paper to the desired ‘fingernail marked’ size.

I decided to add a little flair to the edge of the card by trimming the outside of the pink paper with my scalloped edge scissors.  You could use a punch or even tear the edge of the paper for a little variety.

I wanted to add a border of ribbon across the front of the card with a cute bow.  I selected my ribbon…

..and tied the knot bow in the ends of the ribbon.

I then cut the ‘loop’ of the ribbon to give me two ends.  It’s far easier to create a nice looking knot this way than trying to tie around your paper.  After cutting the ribbon I then taped the ends with scotch tape to the inside of the card.

I wanted to add a little more ‘flair’ to the front of the card and figured it would be fun to use the Xyron Design Runner that we are featuring today as our ScrapbookSteal.  I ended up using the cute heart border.  SO easy and simple to use!

I cut out the heart strip, inked the edges and adhered it to the front of my card.

I then punched out a 2″ circle of white paper, inked the edges and applied a rubon sentiment.

All in all a cute, super easy, and fun card to give to someone that you care about!  I know I always love receiving a cute little pick me up in the mail!

We’d love to see what cards you create!  Share them with us on our Facebook Fan Page, and you could be the lucky winner at the end of the month to receive all 4 of my Monday Card Madness creations!  Just be sure to leave a comment on any one of the Monday Card Madness blog posts stating that you made and shared a card and I will pick a random winner at the beginning of November!

Now get digging through those scraps and put them to use!
