October Afternoon Holiday Style | Monday CRAFT Madness

Today’s steal, the October Afternoon Holiday Style, was the inspiration for an exciting change of events in the ScrapbookSteals.com lineup.

Today is our FIRST Monday Craft Madness! We’re putting a spin on the traditional Monday Card Madness by giving you a theme/sketch each week and allowing you to create any project (a card, layout, altered project, or any other craft your heart desires!) as long as it fits the theme.

Let’s get started! This week’s theme is:

Christmas & Holiday!

I was extra excited when I saw this collection in person and saw just how super cute it is. There are lots of bright colors and patterns and so  many embellishments included in the kit.  It was hard to know when to stop creating! I created a sketch you can use for inspiration for cards of layouts if that is the type of project you choose.

There are so many fun papers, journaling cards, stickers, buttons, ribbon, and twine that I wanted to use it all!

I love the typical Christmas colors of green and red and these papers went together perfectly. I used of all the papers and embellishments, and a few of my own. I added some glitter, gems, snowflakes, and embroidery floss  … and voilà!

The holidays always make me think of snow, too. (I can’t imagine why when I live in Park City!) This collection also contains snowy papers and colors and the cute pompom trim. I used the same sketch for this card, adding stitching to represent one of the layers instead of paper.

As always, I love to flip a sketch! I love how they can be adapted to suit your needs. I turned the sketch on its side to accommodate my December journal card. I added the flower embellishment underneath my button and moved the sentiment sticker to the right hand side. But as you can see, it is still the same sketch!

There are so many fun pieces in this collection, the  possibilities really are endless. I hope you enjoy!

We’re so excited to get the new MCM going! The rules are  still the same– you have until the last Thursday of the month to create and share your project using any of the themes or sketches we provide. We’ll choose a random winner and they’ll be the lucky recipient of a $20 ScrapbookSteals.com gift code at the end of the month! Just note that this is separate from Mid Week Mojo, so you’ll have at least two fun projects a week you can dive into. :)

Don’t forget to check back in with us tomorrow for a fun How To’sday post!

My Mind’s Eye On the Sunny Side and Nostalgia | Monday Card Madness #108

If you visit our boutique, you might just recognize today’s guest sketcher. Steal Boutique’s very own Karina Wetzel will show us how to rock today’s steal, the My Mind’s Eye On the Sunny Side and Nostalgia collections. We love these bright, playful, and timeless collections and adore what Karina created.

This week I got to play with one of my favorite collections, Nostalgia by My Mind’s Eye. Every time I hear the name “Nostalgia” it makes me think of a Caribbean beach. This fun and warm collection comes in a perfect time for this cold Utah weather! A girl can dream right?

I adore the colors and whimsical designs that Nostalgia has to offer. It was so much fun coming with this design. Simple with a little bit of a “pop” is what I usually do when card making.

One of my favorite things about this collection (besides the beautiful paper) is how many fun embellishments it has to offer, the super cute brads, layered stickers, and, of course, the chipboard pennants! Two of my favorite techniques for card making are inking and distressing. I used both on this card and I love how it turned out.

That was so much fun! The possibilities really are endless when it comes to this collection. I hope you enjoy!

Thank you so much for sharing your talents with us, Karina! :)

And good news, Karina will be back on Wednesday as our Mid Week Mojo guest sketcher. Mark it on your calendars so you don’t forget! You definitely won’t want to miss out.

This will be our last Monday Card Madness for a little while. But don’t you worry — we’ll still bring you all sorts of inspiration on the blog!

Chalk ink Clouds | How To’sday

Today’s How To’sday by Becci Manies has to be one of the most ingenious ideas I have ever seen when it comes to ink! I adore my Fluid Chalks and I think I’ll love them even more now after putting to use Becci’s tutorial on how to create clouds with chalk ink.

• • • • •

Step 1. Start with your basic supplies: chalk ink, white cardstock, and a cloud template. I made mine by cutting a cloud shape into the top of a square scrap of cardstock. As you can see, it’s been well used.

Step 2. Start by positioning your template near the top of your (folded) card.

Step 3. Hold the template firmly down and start to brush your inkpad along the edges.

Step 4. Continue to ink along the edge until you have the first layer of clouds all the way across.

Step 5. My template is a bit small, so I move it and stagger it so that the cloud shape is slightly varied between lines of clouds

Step 6. Ta da! You have your first line of clouds.

Step 7. You can continue this for many lines, as far down the card as you would like. I started to use a lighter shade of aqua on the third row.

Step 8. Here is my card with all the clouds done.

Step 9. I added embellishments to the card to give it a finished look! It’s now ready to give to a special birthday girl!

My Mind’s Eye 6×6 Collection Vol. 2 | Monday Card Madness #107

Today’s steal, the My Mind’s Eye 6×6 Collection Vol. 2 are the perfect collections for this time of year. With the kiddos back in school and teacher’s gifts for the holidays creeping up before we know it, the variety of paper collections available today can offer all sorts of crafty ideas for any teacher gift need.

During the retreat I decided to ask some of the creative crafters sitting at my table if they would like to create some cards for this week’s Monday Card Madness. I love the different twists they put on the School Daze collection.

Jen McDermott whipped up this darling card and I just about un-invited her from sitting by me because her stamping abilities are so incredible. ;)

Cristine Redmond made this darling teacher thank you card — and again, stamping. I’m a wee bit envious I have to admit! I love how it looks!

And lastly Kelly Marks made this incredibly fun card with a great mix of the patterns in this collection.

Thank you for sharing your cuteness with us, ladies!

Now some of you may be wondering what the “sketch” is for this week and you are lucky enough to get to use any or all three of the cards as inspiration. :)

Believe it or not, we are nearing the end of another month.

Pink Paislee Prairie Hill Collection | Monday Card Madness #106

Okay ladies, not going to lie. When I first heard the name of today’s steal, the Prairie Hill Collection by Pink Paislee, I was immediately whisked back to the 70s when I would rush home from school to watch Little House on the Prairie. Luckily for us, Pink Paislee captures the color tones of the 70s in this collection with a beautiful modern twist. And since there are no bell bottoms or bangs feathered a mile wide, this collection is definitely a win!

I had such a blast working with the Prairie Hill collection that I found it a little hard to narrow down which direction I wanted to run with the card design. I wanted to incorporate the tags like I did last time we featured Pink Paislee, but I didn’t want to duplicate the look too closely so I got busy chopping up the gorgeous tags. Eeek!

On the first card I made I took the tag, chopped it and added matching corner edges to the bottom side of the tag and then finished things off with one of the cute 3D embellishments.

On the next card I took the same idea but placed the tags a little differently.

For the next two cards I flipped the sketch and tweaked it a little so that my chopped up tags would look the best!

On the final card I made I used the leftover scraps from two different tags that I cut up, added some buttons and washi and came up with a completely new design.

Creating with Prairie Hill? Way less painful than watching re-runs of Little House on the Prairie. In fact, not even painful at all!

I can’t believe the month is half over. If you love card-making and love free stuff then boy have we got a deal for you!
