How To-sday | Hearts Galore Part 1

Today’s How To-sday comes to you from Winter Design Team member Bev Code! Bev created so many cute heart techniques that we just had to make the post into a mini-series! You can find part 2 on the blog on Thursday.

Hi and welcome today to Hearts Galore with me at ScrapbookSteals How To-sday. I am going to share lots of fun crafts using hearts of different sizes, shapes and textures. I am starting with the layout below.

Misting the background is done by Cricut cutting a heart and adding 2 other plastic mesh hearts that are bought at the craft store that are used for needlepoint. They make a great cluster to mist through.

In this close up you can see the misted cluster and I added a dollar store felt accent on a wire stem with bow. I also started with layers of papers from Echo Park Yours Truly collection. With the layers you also see brads, and a chevron border. I added a title and some gem stones.

DIY tutorial to make handmade heart embellishments

Here is a really cute weaved heart tag. Here is the detailed link with instructions.

You start with a 3×9″ strip that you fold in half and round the corners. You do this with two coordinating papers. I used one plain and one polka dots.

Using my cutter I marked the 1″ and 2″ on the 3″ span and cut from the upper edge near but not at the top of half circle edge down to the bottom. If you weave at all. it’s easy to weave the 2 together — over and through the center — over and under alternating rows. The link above gives more details for the beginner.

The American Crafts Dear Lizzy 5th & Frolic Collection is so much fun with modern patterns and colors, combined with softer pastels and flowers! There are journaling and patterned cards, phrase garlands, large tags, chipboard shapes, stitched ruffle strips, and even some thickers! I loved combining the different elements and textures for my layout – it certainly added lots of dimension!

Here is this week’s sketch.

And here is my layout:

I love the fact that this collection allows you to create girl AND boy pages. The colors range from creams and pinks, to soft blues, greens and yellows, with the patterns being versatile too! I knew I wanted to use the ruffle strip on my layout somewhere – I just love the texture and it comes complete with the banner and buttons on it too! They have done all the thinking for you!

There are lots of fun elements in the chipboard pack – I used the heart, the arrow, the photo frame and the sentiment. The ‘life’ wording is actually one of many large tags in the collections, which I backed with some of the colored paper.

Lastly, I fussy cut the triangles from a sheet of the patterned paper, and added a line of stitching running through them, for some more interest and texture to the page.

I hope I have inspired you to create your own layout from this sketch!

My Mind’s Eye The Sweetest Thing Bluebell Collection | Monday Craft Madness #11

The My Mind’s Eye The Sweetest Thing Bluebell Collection is such a versatile collection, it can be used for girls or boys, big or small. There is a mixture of chevron, striped and spotted patterns, along with a variety of floral designs, in such a gorgeous blues, yellows and grays, the theme is up to you. I decided to scrap my baby boy this week, along with making a baby shower card – which means this week’s Monday Craft Madness theme is:

Baby Blues!

You could make layouts, cards or altered projects baby related or even just use the color blue. The choice is yours!

I loved the color combination in this collection and thought it worked perfectly for a layout of my baby boy.

I used a sketch from our very talented Design Team Member Bev Code.

The embellishments that came with this collection were just adorable, and I tried to find a way to use as many as I possible could! I clustered some of the embellishments at the bottom corner of my photo. The notebook paper and flower are both stickers, which I then layered with a wooden button and brad. The other two embellishments came ‘ready done.’ I love this about MME – they do all the hard work for you!

As I have said previously, the new enamel dots from MME are one of my greatest finds! I knew I wanted to do a small banner underneath the photo but I didn’t want the twine that I normally use with them. Instead I used the enamel dots to finish off’ the chipboard banner. I love that they come in different sizes in coordinating colors!

Next, I decided to make a baby card. The colors and patterns are perfect for this, and it kept within my theme.

I fussy cut two of the borders from the border sheet, and added one of the tiny word stickers as a final touch.

I used my Cricut to cut out the stroller and used pop dots to give it a little dimension. Some stitching for texture, buttons for wheels, pop it all up on a scalloped circle and done! A cute baby card.

Pebbles Seen & Noted Collection

Our final Winter Design Team member is Lisa Spiegel! Lisa got to work with one of my favorites, today’s steal, the Pebbles Seen & Noted Collection. I just love the warm color combination and simple patterns in this collection. From red, turquoise, yellow and gray, to dots, stripes, flowers and speech bubbles – this collection has it all! Complete with library cards and pockets, journal cards, cardstock stickers and chipboard, this fun collection is perfect for any papercrafting project.

I was thrilled to have the opportunity to work with Pebbles “Seen and Noted” collection for my Scrapbook Steals collection this month! I just love the bright colors with grey…such a current and fun twist on colors! I created this layout using the stickers, the journaling dards, the paper, and an envelope. I added some stitching and misting and my Cameo for the heart cut and I just love how it turned out! I also love that I can hide my journaling in the cute envelope!

Scrapbooking layout using Pebbles Seen & Noted Collection

Next, I altered a new day planner for myself. With a new year, it was time to get my new calendar and make it CUTE! I found this one in the Dollar Section of my local Target:

But sadly, it’s not cute…so I took some time to break out the craft supplies to cutify it! (We have to have cute planners, right?) The Pebbles Seen and Noted Collection days of the week paper and bright colors are perfect for my calendar. They are super easy to do:

Step 1. Take your planner out of the plastic cover and measure it.

Step 2. Trim the first piece of paper the height of the planner. Lay it down, the side you want to show down and lay the planner on top, lining up the right edge with the right edge of the planner, then wrap the paper to the front and gently fold it. Adhere it to the cover of the planner using a glue stick.

Step 3. Trim a second piece of paper to be 1/2 an inch wider than the spot you will cover and adhere it under the first piece of paper and to the cover of the planner.

Step 4. Cover the seam of the two papers with a decorative trim. I used the UPC trim from another piece of paper from the collection…love that Pebbles made one side of them completely usable! Glue it down.

Step 5. Now it’s time to embellish! I chose to use this cute journaling card, a doily, a punch from the backside of the floral paper, a chipboard speech bubble and numbers to create this for the cover. I cut the word “everyday” from my Silhouette Cameo and black cardstock. It is nice to keep the embellishments flat for your planner. Since you will be writing in it, bumpy embellishments won’t work well…layers of flat things work best!

Step 6. Place your planner back in the cover and add a binder clip to mark your place! Then step back and admire your handiwork!!

And there you have it! Your planner is now CUTE!

Next up, I created this layout of my oldest daughter. This time I created banners (by hand) and some leaves (with my Cameo)..I used some of the Pebbles stickers, too. I really love this line..even though it’s highly patterned, the graphic designs allow the photos to shine!

Lastly, I also created this cute little pop up Gift Card holder..

I used a Cameo cut for it…and popped a cute little journaling card with bling inside to personalize it. I added Basic Grey magnets to keep it closed…and when the recipient opens it, the whole things slides up and out! SO CUTE.

I had a great time working with this great collection…it’s so much fun! Don’t miss out on this steal…it’s just fantastic!!

The My Mind’s Eye The Sweetest Thing Honey Collection is just SO sweet and perfect for the girlies in your life! From pinks to creams, yellows to grays, you really can make your pages in any style you like. There are chevrons and flowers, dots and doilies, with a huge amount of embellishments to match. I love the die cut titles and layered stickers, and something new to me – enamel dots – they look just like brads but are adhesive, so no poking holes through the papers! There is so much more in this collection, including brads, chipboard, crocheted doilies and journalling cards – enough to make a whole scrapbook album!

I wanted to stay with a simple color combination for my layout so chose the pink, grey and white/cream papers. Even with all the patterns, the papers in the collection compliment and work well with each other. Here are some close up’s of my layout to show you how awesome the embellishments really are. You really don’t need to do anything else with them – they are all ‘ready to go’!

The layered stickers are so beautiful – they add great dimension to any scrapbook page.

I love the brads that come with every MME collection. They are all color coordinated and have other decorative elements which you can mix and match. I paired this with one of the label stickers just to give it a little more interest.

And lastly, I just LOVE the title cards. You need to do very little with them – I just popped this one up over the wrapped twine, and added some of the enamel dots to highlight it. So simple and quick to do, yet I love the effect!
