Lifestyle Crafts Border Dies | Mid Week Mojo

Amber – Week 3 of 10
New to Mid Week Mojo? Get started here!

The Lifestyle Crafts Border dies are great fun and so easy to use – they add just the right amount of pizazz to any scrapbooking layout! You can use the dies with paper and cardstock for quick and easy borders, or use them as masks with your favorite misting sprays. The choice is yours! Here is this week’s sketch:

And here is my layout. The border dies gave just the right amount of background interest for this layout – and I felt that the rest of the page needed to be kept simple to really highlight them.

The border is quite delicate, so I just added some stitched hearts to the corners, to frame the borders and photos.

Adding dimension and texture to scrapbooking layouts

I haven’t added the journaling to my layout quite yet – but there is plenty of room to add it wherever you want. I hope I have inspired you to create your own layout from this sketch!

Basic Grey PB & J | Mid Week Mojo

Amber – Week 2 of 10
New to Mid Week Mojo? Get started here!

The Basic Grey PB & J is such a bright, fun collection, with colors and patterns perfect for any boy or girl. It’s fun chipboard elements, stickers and metal flowers really make you look forward to Spring! I had so much fun with this collection – here is the sketch:

Mid Week Mojo sketch challenge Amber #2

And here is my layout. I loved the blues and reds in this collection, and knew they would work perfectly for my photos!

Scrapbooking layout using Basic Grey PB & J

I used the navy chipboard alphas for my title, and the small spots are actually the centers of the letters that I would normally throw away. They just landed on my page as I was doing the title – and I quite liked them! Again I hand stitched around the circle, just to add a little more interest to the page, and used a star punch to break up the line of the circle.

Adding dimension and texture to scrapbooking layouts

I mirrored the element cluster on the bottom of the circle, and added these fun chipboard rectangles to the bottom corner as it looked a little bare.

How To-sday | MistScape

Today’s How To-sday comes to you from our fabulous guest designer Charity Becker. Charity shows us a great technique for using your misting sprays to create a background that’s full of dimension with a dreamy quality! Super cool and easy to do – I just need to dig out my sprays now.

Misting Sprays for scrapbooking are a great way to altar the look of patterned paper without obliterating the original design. Layering those mists creates dimension and a dreamy quality to the layout. Follow the steps below to create a landscape that will let your photo take center stage.

Supplies:

  • 3 sheets of 12×12 cardstock (2 to rip, 1 for the base of your layout.)
  • 4 colors of scrapbooking mist, (light blue, light green, dark blue, brown)

Step 1: Rip one 12×12 sheet of cardstock in half. Rip a 3 inch strip off of one sheet of cardstock. Rip slowly so that you get several “ripples” in the edge of your paper.

Step 2: Lay the 9 inch piece of ripped cardstock over your cardstock base so that the bottom portion is uncovered. Spray with brown mist.

Step 3: Lay a 6 inch piece of ripped cardstock over the cardstock base, again leaving the bottom portion uncovered. Spray with light green mist.

Step 4: Lay the 3 inch piece of ripped cardstock over the cardstock base, leaving the bottom portion uncovered. Spray with light blue mist.

Step 5: Lay the remaining 6 inch piece of ripped cardstock over the base so that the middle portion is covered. Some light blue and some brown should show on either end. Spray with dark blue mist. The resulting piece of cardstock will have bands of color that resemble a grassy hill and a sky fading to twilight.

Step 6:: Lay the base between 2 sheets of paper towel, inside two sheets of wax paper, and set under a stack of large books or heavy cutting boards. The paper should be completely covered by the books. Leave the base to dry for 24 hours. The weight will keep the paper from warping too badly.

Step 7: Remove all water from a clothing iron, set to a medium temperature, and iron the base cardstock to get any kinks out. Lay it under the stack of books to cool for an hour.

Step 8: Create a masterpiece and proudly display!

My Mind’s Eye Collectable Notable & Memorable | Mid Week Mojo

Amber – Week 1 of 10
New to Mid Week Mojo? Get started here!

Welcome to a new Mid Week Mojo Series! Get ready for 10 weeks of inspiration and chances to win!

The My Mind’s Eye Collectable Notable & Memorable Collections are everything you would expect from My Mind’s Eye! The Notable collection is full of vibrant blues, greens, yellows and oranges, with fun label stickers, layered stickers and title cards to match! The Memorable collection is a much ‘Springy’ collection, with soft patterns and color combinations. It’s perfect collection to make you wish for warmer weather and blooming flowers!

Here is this week’s sketch:

Scrapbooking inspiration sketch challenge using My Mind's Eye Notable Collection

I just love the vibrant colors of this collection – the mix of patterns and colors just scream ‘fun!’ to me, so I wanted to create a fun layout!

Scrapbooking layout using My Mind's Eye Notable Collection

The first thing that jumped out at me in this collection was the bright orange photo frame sticker! I just love this and decided to use it highlight one of my photos. The photo inside the frame is 2.5″ x 2.5″ which fit one of my photo’s perfectly!

Scrapbooking layout using My Mind's Eye Notable Collection

I wanted to use as many of the colors and patterns as I could on this layout, but didn’t want it to look too fussy. Instead of adding layers to the layout, I decided to use a more haphazard grid formation. I used the banner and stitching, along with some ‘popped’ up stickers, for more texture and interest than the basic plain grid.

I used one of the title cards for my own title, but removed the orange sunburst from around the outside. Instead I hand stitched a chevron design in a lighter color, to highlight the title but not over-power it.

I hope I have inspired you to create your own layout from this sketch!
