Lifestyle Crafts Nesting Dies | Monday Craft Madness #8

The Lifestyle Crafts Nesting Dies are so easy and fun to use. They’re perfect for cards, layouts and gifts. Even my daughter loves to create using them! Now that the holidays have been and gone, what is the next big event we Papercrafters create for? Valentines Day! Which means this week’s Monday Craft Madness theme is:

Valentines!

I chose to use the Lifestyle Crafts Nesting Lace Hearts for my projects. They are so versatile. There are 5 dies from 1″-5.8″ -  you really can make whatever you want!

The first thing I always have to make is a Valentine’s Day card for my loved one! I went plain and simple with my card, using the 1″ die to cut out 15 white and 1 red heart. Arrange them in a grid formation, add a simple rub-on sentiment, and voilà! A card in under 30 minutes!

Next I thought about all the gifts given out at school. I started with the teacher gift. This phrase (‘Mrs Kreuger rules’) is something my daughter often writes to her teacher on her the back of her work when she has finished!

And lastly – it seems they all have to give each other gifts too (this is so different from the UK!). Here are the gifts for the girls in her class (the boys gifts will appear on here sometime in the future!) – mini loveheart treat bags. The die cut hearts make the perfect labels!

I hope I have inspired you to start work on your Valentines projects this week. Just remember to have fun! :)

Today’s steal, the Lawn Fawn Bright Side Collection, is so bright and colorful it really makes you think of spring and summer! The double-sided papers have such cute patterns and colors perfect for little girls everywhere!

Today’s guest designer, Michele Duffy, shows us just how super cute this collection is, with a great sketch to inspire us all!

I’ve got a little confession to make.  I consider myself more of a cardmaker than a scrapper.  I’m working on that, though.  With the help of MWM sketches I’ve filled up two albums in the last year and a half!  So when I started to think about what kind of sketch I might create this week in order to inspire some true scrappers out there, I actually started with one of my cards.  Here’s one of my go-to card layouts, adapted to a 12×12 layout.  I think you could easily use one photo or several clustered together, up to you!
I got to create with Lawn Fawn’s lovely “Bright Side” paper collection.  I own several Lawn Fawn stamps, but this was the first time I used their patterned papers.  I love the tone-on-tone prints and bright colors in this collection. “Bright Side” definitely lives up to its name!
Here’s my layout, I used one 4×6 print trimmed down a little bit.
Now, I like pre-made embellies just as much as the next girl, but when working with this steal I was reminded that my love of paper crafting is really about one thing: the paper! I layered strips of paper along the left edge of the paper, using a border punch to make some pretty scallops.  I repeated the scallop border along my photo and journaling.  I then used some easy techniques to turn patterned paper into embellishments.  For instance, I punched these butterflies from the pink and turquoise papers for a quick corner embellie.
I also stamped and fussy cut some flowers to add some color by the title.
And fussy cut a tulip from the ‘smell the roses’ sheet of patterned paper to dress up my journaling block.
Most of the Bright Side prints are small and perfect for cards.  So let’s put that ‘layout’ sketch to work on some cards!
I gave this next card a less feminine and flowery look by using the green and blue papers on a kraft cardstock base.  (This is the back of the ‘jump for joy’ paper included in the collection.)
That’s it for me today!  Thanks so much for having me as your guest sketcher and I look forward to seeing your layouts this week!

We R Memory Keepers Doodle Stampers

I love what Fall Design Team member Amy Coose has done with today’s steal, the We R Memory Keepers Doodle Stampers! Adding details with these stampers is so easy yet so effective. Amy, you did a fabulous job!

• • • • •

I was thrilled to get to work with the We R Memory Doodle Stampers this month.  I had never used them before so I couldn’t wait to see what they could do. I am not a stamper, so I was a little nervous to use them.  Once I played around with them a bit, I realized how easy they were to use!  Once I got the hang of how they rolled, and how much pressure to use when rolling them, I was ready to get creating.
I have to say, my first layout was quite simple.  I just used the stampers as a border for the main portion of the design.  It was super easy, and I figured that even I couldn’t mess that up.  I really like the extra detail that simple stamped border adds.
When I was finished with the layout, I decided to use the roller once more along the top edge.
I knew I could figure out a way to use the stitched stamper, but the other two heads I received were a bit more challenging.  I finally came up with an idea that I loved.  I simply rolled the stamper along three different colors of card stock and then placed them behind the front heart cutout of my card.  I added some machine stitching, and tied a cute bow and it was done.  I love how this turned out.
I loved using the stampers, they were easy to use and produced a crisp image.  You do have to experiment with how much pressure to use when rolling them so that you don’t get extra ink marks around the image, but that was easy enough to figure out.  They are fun to use, and I enjoyed using them in my projects!

Lifestyle Crafts It Kit

I love what Fall Design Team member Julie Koets has done with today’s steal, the Lifestyle Crafts It Kit. Julie worked it! This is definitely going in my ‘steal’ cart today!

• • • • •

I was thrilled when I was asked to work with the Lifestyle Crafts It Kits. The tags kit that I was asked to feature had 16 different tags that are easily cut using any die-cutting machine.  These kits are perfect for all paper crafters and will take your projects to new levels!
Keeping things simple, I first set out to make a quick card using the scalloped half circle to showcase my sentiment.
I tried another card, this time using four of the different dies.  The dark red paper was cut using one of the dies, along with the strip under my sentiment that I cut from balsa wood.  The tree is even made from three of the scalloped half circles that I folded and layered into a tree shape and the trunk was cut using a small rectangle die.
For my final project, I wanted to showcase as many of the dies as possible and add some life to a two page layout.  The banner die made it super easy to cut my title banner.  All of the shapes used to embellish this layout (with the exception of two strips of paper) were cut using dies from the tags kit.
It’s hard to believe, but my term on the Scrapbook Steals design team has officially come to an end.  I was lucky to work with other talented ladies and was thrilled to work with such great products.   Big thanks to ScrapbookSteals for letting this “ordinary fan” be part of such an amazing team.  I can’t wait to see who will get to inspire us for the Winter Design Team!

My Mind’s Eye Title Cards | Monday Craft Madness #5

The My Mind’s Eye title cards are SO much fun. They can be used for any paper crafting project! I love that the sentiments on these cards fit any occasion. This week’s Monday Craft Madness theme is:

Layering!

I chose to make three different cards this week using the MME title cards as the main focus. The layering is so easy to do. We do it all the time on cards and layouts without really thinking about it! An easy challenge for everyone to join in!

This first card shows the layering at its best. There are a total of eight layers on this card! I matched the MME Indie Chic card with MME papers from other collections and added a little for some texture.

My next card uses another title from the MME Indie Chic collection, along with papers from MME’s Honey Cake 6×6 paper pad. I cut out the hearts using my Cricut and ‘popped’ 2 of them up, along with the title card, using pop dots. A bit of inking around the edges of the papers really highlights the layering.

I love the colors in the MME ‘Dilly Dally’ collection, and this title card really pulls the color scheme together! I fussy cut the tickets from one of the 12×12 papers and used my punch to cut out the star. I love the masculine feel to this card – it could be for a birthday, graduation or other special event.

I love how versatile these title cards are. They aren’t just for scrapbooking!
