Wow! I am so happy to be back here at ScrapbookSteals to share some of my scrappy creations.  When I opened up my goodies, I was thrilled to find that I would be working with Echo Park’s For the Record 2 Collection.  Up here in Canada we have some pretty long, cold, and gloomy winters!  This gorgeous collection is just what I needed to beat the winter blues.  The colors are simply pure sunshine.  It is also and incredibly versatile, and could be used for many different themes.

For my first project I decided to make this little “Dates to Remember” mini book.  It’s the perfect size to carry around, so while out shopping, it’s quick and easy to check out who you need to shop for.

My next creation is a layout of my darling granddaughter Blake.  A few weeks ago I spotted this amazing layout on Pinterest and knew it was the perfect inspiration for the photo I wanted to use.  I have always wanted to ‘doodle’ on a layout but could never get it to look right.  But I decided to jump in and give it a try and I am super pleased with the way it turned out.

Because the colors in the collection are so rich and cheerful I wanted to use them to brighten up my scrapbook space.  I like to keep a ‘catch-all’ box on my desk to throw the supplies I am using in, until I finish a project.  So this clear little bin I had was transformed into a little piece of art.  I also just couldn’t resist decorating a jar to match. It’s perfect for pens, markers etc.

Lastly, I made this sweet little card.  For The Record 2 comes with stunning Element Stickers and letters, Chipboard Accents, Layered Chipboard, and Decorative Brads.  They make creating cards super easy and fun fun fun!

Thank you Kerys and ScrapbookSteals for this opportunity to share my projects with you.  ScrapbookSteals is like a second home to me <3

When I was asked to be a guest sketcher at first I was shocked then so thrilled! Then came the ‘can I do this?’ There have been so many amazing scrapbookers on here, I didn’t think I could compare. But I got to thinking everyone has such different styles and strengths, what did it really matter?
When I found out I got to work with Carta Bella’s Paris Girl, I was even more excited because this line is so gorgeous. When I got it in the mail I was even more amazed with the texture and quality of the paper. So I really wanted to feature the paper in my LO. So here is what I came up with.

And here is the sketch:

I titled it ‘My Love, My Valentine’ and put the letters on all the rosette’s i made. Let me tell you, making all those rosette’s took along time but I think they really show off the paper well.
DIY handmade rosette embellishments
I love doilies and they always remind me of Valentines, so I wanted to add one in.

I thought the ticket stickers that came with the set had such cute sayings on them, that I just had to use them as well.

The 6×6 pad of paper is the same quality, and is also stunning! I just had to make a card with it! Here’s what I came up with.

So that’s it for me, thanks for having me as a guest sketcher, I had so much fun working with this paper. I look forward to seeing what everyone comes up with!

Lifestyle Crafts Embossing Folders | Monday Craft Madness #13

The Lifestyle Crafts Embossing Folders are super easy to use, and with endless possibilities you can never have too many! Whether you are embossing a card, a layout, using it as a frame or tag, there is something for everyone in today’s steal. Here is this week’s Monday Craft Madness inspiration and theme:

White + 1

Use white plus one other color only on your project! I have used white+pink and white+blue for my projects.

I decided to make a traditional embossed background card for my first project.

DIY handmade embossed baby boy card

I wanted to highlight the embossing as much as I could and so used a sponge with my inks to gently rub over the embossing. I love the way it highlights the edges of the embossing – giving so much more dimension to the background.

DIY handmade embossed baby boy card

I added stitching and a button to the title card for a little more interest and to emphasize the white+1 theme.

Next up, I wanted to show you how easily the embossing folder could be used as a frame. I’m not sure why I ended up with another baby themed project – it just happened! I was looking for another white+1 and just happened upon pink!

DIY handmade baby gift

I embossed some plain white card stock and fussy cut the frame.

I put this onto a plain pail and used vellum behind the frame to give it a little more interest. The pink and white flowers were added along with the pearl bling and the word ‘cherish.’ It makes a great gift – baby or other!

I hope I have inspired you to start work on your ‘white+1′ projects this week. Remember, they can be any project you like – there are so many possibilities. Just remember to have fun! :)

How To-sday on Thursday! | Hearts Galore Part Two

Today’s How To-sday on Thursday comes to you from Winter Design Team member Bev Code! Are you ready for part two of her very own mini series? She’s back with more cute ”Hearts Galore” ideas to freshen up your scrapbook layout, cards, mini albums and projects!

• • • • •
Hi there! I’m back for part two of my ”Heart Galore” post. Next up is Iris Folded Heart and I made it into a card.
DIY handmade Iris Folded card for Valentine's Day
Here are the detailed instructions on making Iris Folded images of so many shapes. It also shows you how to make these using paper (folded over). I have made the paper ones and thought that single runs of ribbon not folded would also work, so that’s what I did for this one. I started with the heart drawn above and cut the shape out.
DIY handmade Iris Folded card for Valentine's Day
I then followed the design in the link and taped down my ribbons as you can see below. Just remember to leave space around the outside to trim and finish your project.

When finished, turn over your project, trim it, and decide how you want to use it. I put this on my finished card above but it would make a great framed piece on a layout also.

Last up is this fun card I call a Diamond Folded Heart.
DIY handmade Diamond Folded card for Valentine's day
I got the idea when I saw it at Christmas with the shape of a Christmas tree. That shape was really easy to figure out. After much playing with the heart pattern I made the stencils for you to make one too.

Print this sheet at 8 1/2″ x 11″ and it should work to follow along and make yours. The cut lines are solid and the dotted lines are the folds. It also is best to do the main piece out of a print with a white back side. The heart is sized to cover the other folded diamond heart.
DIY handmade Diamond Folded card for Valentine's day
Start by laying the pattern above on the print paper with white backside. Using a ruler and exacto knife cut only the solid V lines. Then fold the coloured side forward to white side.

Mat the backside of the diamond shaped heart with an accented colour. Tape it to the back to hold it in place. Also using the stencil cut the heart shape frame piece. I used white but you can make your heart any colour combo you feel you’d like.

This photo shows my white frame and the solid piece is my card base.

After all this is organized I then cut another heart frame to accent and added other accents, a sentiment, some bling and even added a stamped bird.

Thanks for joining me today. I really had a great time creating these HEARTS GALORE to share with you.

We R Memory Keepers Tab Punch | Monday Craft Madness #12

The We R Memory Keepers Tab Punch is so easy and fun to use it really is child’s play! Whether you are altering recipe boxes, making file folders, adding tabs to your cards and scrapbooking pages, We R Memory Keepers have the designs you need. We thought we would switch things up a bit with the Monday Craft Madness theme this week, and give you a phrase! Here is this week’s Monday Craft Madness inspiration and theme:

“You are…..!”

Find or make up your own ‘You are…’ sentence and include it somewhere on your project. Have fun!

I decided to make 2 Valentine’s cards for my children, including the phrase “You are….to my….”. The first card is a pocket card – something a little different from the normal cards I make.

Monday Craft Madness handmade pocket card

I used cutting machine to cut out the pocket and heart files, and added pen stitching for more effect. The tab punch was used for the small note in the pocket and for the tab on the card inside. Super cute mini alphas were used for the journalling “You are the cheese to my pizza” and I found the perfect photo of my son making pizza last summer. I love this color combination as it isn’t too Valentine’s, but has a more boy feel to it. Here is the card inside:

I then had to make a card for my daughter. I still stayed away from the normal shaped card, and made a gate fold card. I used typical girly colors and used the button as the closure for the centre opening card (the heart tucks behind the button to keep it closed).

Monday Craft Madness handmade gate fold card

I used the tab punch for a small border across the two sides of the card, and you may recognise the lace hearts die cuts from a steal last month! They were perfect for this card – I just added a little pen stitching and a rub on sentiment.

Again, I used mini alphas to complete the sentence “You are the chocolate to my ice cream” and found the perfect photo of my daughter and her chocolate ice cream last summer! I used the tab punch to highlight the fact that it is Feb 14th and a Valentines Day card.

I hope I have inspired you to start work on your ‘You are….’ inspiration projects this week. Remember, they can be any project you like – just because I have made cards doesn’t mean that you have to make cards too! The sentence would be perfect for a title or journalling on a layout or mini album. There are lots of possibilities. Just remember to have fun! :)
