Winter Design Team member Bev Code is back with us today for her final, awesome reveal! Bev got to work with the Studio Calico Classic Calico Volume 3 Collection and she shows us just how amazingly versatile this collection is. She will wow you with a mini album, a card and a layout too!

Hi! It’s Bev here today. I am thrilled to share what I did with the Studio Calico 6×6 pad of Clasic Calico pappers. Starting with an item I could alter, a Plaid Enterprises Magic Slide Picture Book, I recovered the whole project with the amazing choices of paper that mixed and matched. It was perfect color hues for Ancestry and Old Family Photos.

On the inside flip pages I used some punching, minimal layers, shapes, strips, borders and cute accents finished off pages. On the outside however I used a few more textured and depth accents, and added the titles to front and back. The outer edges of the project needed paint to finish off the edges. Clear SRM stickers are the best ever for any project and so easy to use. This little slide photo album is my ancestry and it shares three generations with grandparents on both my mom and dad’s side of the family. What a treasure and I enjoyed sharing it with you.

Here is my card to share with you.. thinking of you. Fun layers of Studio Calico papers, some punching, brads, and some twine and SRM stickers along with some BG accents.

My layout started with a Kraft 12×12 base and then I used the 6×6 pad of Studio Calico. It is amazing what you can do with these small pads. They are not just for cards anymore.

I used some stamping in the background. Started with layers of paper, added some punched borders, added strips to the corner, and added BG accents in clusters and added some twine to a button and some brads.

Inked edges makes thing pop perfectly.The Title is the AC DIY thickers. This page is done using a very old photo als0 — I think it’s from about 1953.

Today’s steal, the My Mind’s Eye The Sweetest Thing Tangerine Collection, is the perfect color combination for this time of year! It has all the colors and patterns for capturing your favorite spring photos. Today’s guest designer, Michelle King, shows us just how super cute this collection is, with two great sketches to inspire us all!

Hello there everyone! I have had so much fun and inspiration taking part in the Mid Week Mojos for over 2 years now (my how time flies)! When Kerys asked me if I wanted to put together a sketch of my own, my first thought was, “Yippee!!!” and then it was quickly followed by, “Oh my goodness, how can I compete with the incredible sketches that have been presented previously?!” Well, the fact that I was going to be able to play with My Mind’s Eye The Sweetest Thing Tangerine Collection certainly pushed me to try.

I had so much fun with the beautiful pieces in this kit. I was seriously blown away by how much awesomeness could be in one kit. Of course, that means I couldn’t do just one layout…For my first layout, I wanted to use the brilliant orange scheme that is at the forefront of the kit (have I ever mentioned how much I like orange?). I wanted to be able to show off as much of the base paper I used on this one as I could because those big flowers just make me smile. At the same time I wanted to use as many embellishments as I could because there were so many and they fit so nicely on the page without feeling like they are overwhelming. I am normally someone who does not use a lot of embellishments, but found with these pieces, I wanted to keep adding! C’mon, how darling is that crocheted flower?

Once I finished that one, I thought I should show that the kit isn’t just “tangerine.” There are some really pretty colors in this collection. So, for my second layout I decided to use the more muted colors. The pale yellows and aqua have a nice fresh feel to them. And again, I found myself pulling out some great embellishments to finish off the look. I love the title card because that really is how my youngest is — especially the “fearless” part (I think I get more grey hairs by the day).

I even made a cute little bookmark for a swap I am in. I used the chevron pattern and then one of the cute cards in the kit. Voilà! Instant cuteness for any avid reader out there! AND…even though I am not really a card maker, I did make what I think is a pretty darn cute one (even if I do say so myself). The fact that it turned out the way it did just goes to show I had a great spread to choose from.

I hope you all have the chance to play with the My Mind’s Eye The Sweetest Thing Tangerine Collection because I continue to sit here thinking about what else I can use it for (I’m already pondering some altered projects). How To-sday | Chalkboard Art Embellishments

Today’s How To-sday comes to you from Winter Design Team member Cristine Redmond. Cristine shows us just how easy it is to make your own faux chalkboard cards. It truly is a piece of art!

Using chalkboard art on cards and other various projects seems to be all the rage right now. Today I am going to show you how easy it is to put together a chalkboard piece to add to your cards.

Here are the basic supplies you’ll need:
- black cardstock (scraps are great for this)
- white stamp pad
- white gel pen
- ruler (optional)
- make up sponge (not pictured – oops!)

For my first card, I just wanted to add a smaller chalkboard piece to a card, so I used my Cameo to cut out the tag shape.

Next, I used a make up sponge to lightly apply ink all over the tag. I have used pigment, dye and chalk ink for this step, and I have found chalk ink to be the most forgiving. Pigment and dye inks get saturated into the sponge so they tend to leave more ink on the paper and are harder to blend in. Chalk ink just seems to work better for this purpose.

If I want to add a bit more definition to the eraser marks, I use a dry, stiff paint brush to add some ink, then I use the sponge to smooth them out a bit.

At this point, I like to add a border around the tag with my white gel pen to give it more of a finished look.

Add a stamped sentiment and/or image with white ink (I used dye ink for this step) and it’s finished!

I decided to make another card that uses the chalkboard piece as the main part of the card. For this, I cut a larger piece of cardstock and used my corner chomper to decorate the top corners.

I added the chalk ink just as I did in the steps above, then added the border.

I decided to make a bigger statement with this card, so I used a bunch of cute sentiments on a bigger stamping block and then stamped them on to the card with dye ink. Here is a picture of the finished card:

Making chalkboard pieces is such an easy thing to do and adds so much to your cards. I hope I’ve inspired you to try making one for yourself!

Silhouette CAMEO | Monday Craft Madness #17

The Silhouette CAMEO and Accessories are just about my favorite paper crafting tools out there! I purchased a Silhouette a few months back, and never dared to use it! I used the software for the MWM sketches all the time, but yesterday’s steal gave me the push I needed. I have to say – I LOVE it! There are so many great printing and cutting files in the Silhouette online store), you really are spoiled for choice! Here are just a few of the files I chose, using the St Patrick’s Day celebration next Sunday as a theme. So you guessed it – this week’s Monday Craft Madness theme…

Shades of Green!

Use at least 2 shades of green on your projects!

I decided to make a fun collection of crafts this week – I really put my Silhouette to the test! I made a Leprechaun’s Hat using one of the cutting files, a ‘pot of gold’ using a cutting file and also a printing file, and I love the lace backgrounds and made a card using one of them.

All of this hat was cut out using the same cutting file – I just used different colors and textures of cardstock for the different elements!

For the ‘pot of gold’, this was again a single cutting file.

There was also a printable file for the tiny stickers on the bottoms of the Hersey’s kisses. This was so simple to do – you just ‘send’ it to your printer instead of the silhouette! It couldn’t be easier! I then used a 3/4″ circle punch to cut them out, my xyron create-a-sticker for adhesive and stuck them onto the bottoms. It just adds a little finishing touch don’t you think?

And finally, for my card, I used a lace clover background cutting file. The silhouette is so precise that it cuts even the most delicate of details without any tearing.

I finished it off with a digital stamp from Meljen’s that I hand colored with prismacolor pencils, some twine, and a clover that I cut out by mistake when I made the Leprachaun hat!

Studio Calico Mister Huey’s Masks and Mists

Winter Design Team member Cristine Redmond is back with us today for her final, awesome reveal! Cristine got to work with the Studio Calico Mister Huey’s Masks and Mists and she shows us just how easy and effective using mists and masks really are. Super quick cards and an adorable layout – Cristine you rocked the product again!

When I found out that I was going to be working with Studio Calico Mister Huey’s Masks and Mists for this post, I did a little happy dance…then I freaked out a little. I don’t know about you, but something about misting always intimidates me. I have WAAAY too many mists in my craft room to not be using them, so I took this as a great opportunity to get over my fear and start using them. For this card, I used the hexagon mask and Mister Huey’s white mist. I put the card flat on an old cardboard box I use for misting, then placed the mask on top of it. Then I lightly sprayed the mist until I got the color I wanted. Spraying it closer to the paper will make the mist spray heavier and holding it further away will make the mist lighter. I cut some hexagons from my one of my favorite sheets of the My Mind’s Eye Collectable collection and filled a few of the spaces, added a piece for the border, then used a coordinating seam binding ribbon to tie it all together. It was so fast and SUPER easy!

This card was so easy to put together as well. I used the same steps above, but this time added small pieces of washi tape to tape the sides of the chevron mask down so it would lay flat better. I also used Mister Huey’s Warm Calico mist for this card. I cut a couple banners, added some burlap twine, threw on a flair button and that was it! Again, SUPER easy!

This project was a bit more complicated. I decided to use the 12×12 Starburst mask not only as a mask, but as a stitching template as well. I cut my background paper to size then traced the open sections of the mask with pencil. After getting all of my holes punched, I erased my pencil lines then placed the mask back on the paper and misted it lightly with the white Mister Huey’s mist. The hardest part of this project was the stitching aspect of it. If I had left out those steps, this layout would have come together much faster. I love the way it all turned out, though.

I hope this inspires you to steal today and create easy projects of your own!
