American Crafts Campy Trails | Mid Week Mojo

Topaz Club — Layout 5

Good morning everyone! Happy Wednesday to you. I’m so excited about today’s Mid Week Mojo sketch, mainly because I was soooo excited to use today’s steal, the American Crafts Campy Trails collection. Here’s a little fact about me. I pretty much detest camping. Now once upon a time I loved it (think childhood), but now not so much (think what kind of a vacation is camping when you’re the mom.  Oh yeah.  It’s not.) However I was giddy when I knew I’d be using today’s steal to create this week’s Mid Week Mojo. The colors and the designs of paper are simply divine! And there’s no need to be a camper, lthough if you are double bonus because camping papers don’t get any cuter than this! These papers are fantastic for a huge amount of things.

I wasn’t quite sure where this week’s sketch would lead but knew I wanted to have the opportunity to mix up the patterns, so there are a lot of layers and additions to make use of lots of patterns.

I’m also a full-blown Thickers addict. I simply love the ease of Thickers and the cute factor of the two sets included in today’s steal is off the charts.

I was so inspired by Melissa Dehne’s flower tutorial on yesterday’s How To’sday post that I decided to add one to my Mid Week Mojo. I think it was the perfect touch!

Hooray for another week of Mojo-ing! Participation has been outstanding and it’s been a true treat to see all of the different creations. Our random prize winner for this week is Charity Hotrum-Becker! Charity’s layouts are always a true artistic delight.

Charity, if you’ll please send your address to service@scrapbooksteals.com, we will be happy to send a prize out to you.

As far as this week goes, be sure to have this week’s layout created, posted and linked to this blog no later than Monday, August 29th at 11:59 PM MST.

For any of you that have questions regarding Mid Week Mojo you can check out all of the rules and details here. Also, as we continue week to week, bookmark this page for your quick reference to Mid Week Mojo links.

American Crafts Slick Writers | Monday Card Madness #44

If there’s one thing that every crafter should never have to live without, it’s a fantastic set of pens. Today’s steal the American Crafts Slick Writers are just that! Not only are these particular pens fantastic for journaling, they are also the very best pens for writing on slick surfaces. This means no more smearing when writing on overlays or even glass.

Aside from the American Crafts Slick Writers, I happened upon another pretty incredible crafting tool to create my cards for this week. I was lucky enough to get my hands on some of the card layering templates from Kiwi Lane Designs. In fact, I have to pretty much credit this week’s sketch to the inspiration provided in the packaging of the card layering templates.

The American Crafts Slick Writers were the perfect addition to add a little extra something to my cards this week. I used them for adding some lines around the edges of the front of my cards to give them a little more dimension.

Now it’s time to announce the winner of our July Monday Card Madness random giveaway.

Congrats to Bless Lamontagne. You are our lucky winner!

Bless, if you will please send an email with your address to service@scrapbooksteals.com, we will be happy to send a prize out to you.

American Crafts Ribbon | Monday Card Madness #42

Ribbon. Let  me guess. Most of you just went a little weak in the knees, and if you haven’t seen today’s steal, the American Crafts Dot Grosgrain ribbon, then you’d best sit down.

It always seems there are a million and ten ways to use ribbon on your projects. I had a hard time narrowing down what I wanted to do but settled on a triple bow row for the focus of this week’s sketch.

I am so in love with the huge variety of colors that come with today’s steal. A perfect fit for every project!

It’s amazing what a little splash of ribbon can do to a project to give it a little flair. If you’re saying to yourself that you have too much ribbon, well, I’ll let you in on a little secret. A girl can never have too much ribbon.  :)

Don’t forget to have this week’s card sketch posted to our Facebook fan page or your own personal blog by August 5th at 11:59 pm in order to be eligible for the July random drawing.

In case you haven’t heard we are hosting another card swap. The past two have been an amazing success and the talent is unreal! Here are the details for the current card swap:

How To’sday | Altering Thickers by Brittany Perry

How To’sday | Altering Thickers by Brittany Perry

One of ScrapbookSteals very own, Brittany Perry has done it again! This week Brittany shows us some amazing ways to alter one of our very favorite embellishments, Thickers, to suit our every scrappy need.

__________________________

I love Thickers — all of them! I have found that I often use the same ones on multiple layouts, which can get a little boring. I recently began altering Thickers to change things up a little bit. Here are a few ideas I have tried so far.

On these two sets of Thickers, I used rub-ons. It is such an easy, fast, mess free way to customize them:

On this set, I felt like the title was blending too much into the patterned paper, so I used a KI Memories stamp, a little brown ink, and added a little color and pattern.

This title just seemed a little boring to me. The layout already had paisleys on it, so I thought the KI Memories paisley stamp would be a great way to change these Thickers.

On these foam Thickers, I used some Versamark watermark ink, some Zing embossing powder, and another KI Memories stamp to add some color and glimmer.

I thought glimmer mist would be another easy way to change Thickers. On this set of yellow Thickers, I sprayed some “brick” colored glimmer mist, which I think gave the word “animal” an animal-like feel!

Some other ideas for altering Thickers include:

  • adding stickers or rhinestones
  • sanding them to remove some of the color or give them a distressed look
  • adding distress crackle paint
  • adding ink (from a colored stamp pad – I especially love
    this on white glitter Thickers)
  • draw/doodle on them with a pen or marker

I think the possibilities are endless! And you can have completely unique, one of
a kind Thickers!

Thank you so much Brittany for your amazing ideas on how to alter Thickers. Remember if you have a great idea that you’d love to see featured on How To’sday, you can send images and directions to kristy@stealnetwork.com.

Be sure to check in tomorrow for Mid Week Mojo and an amazing sketch from our June guest sketcher.

Have a great day!

DIY BBQ or Pool Party with American Crafts Heat Wave

DIY BBQ or Pool Party with American Crafts Heat Wave

I don’t know about you but for me the countdown to summer is ON. There are 17 days left until the bliss of summer vacation is upon us, which means lazy, lazy and more lazy. (I know, who am I joking, right? It’ll be as busy as ever!) Anyhow, today’s steal, the American Crafts Heat Wave collection has got to be one of the most fun summer collections I have ever seen.

I thought it would be fun to create a BBQ or pool party kit for my girls to celebrate the last day of school with their friends. It has become a tradition for us to grill up some hot dogs and have friends over and this year we will be doing it Heat Wave style.  :)
First, every party needs an invite. I love the amazing array of papers to choose from to create the perfect invitation. Today’s kit comes with four sheets of each paper, so you can knock out multiple invites without running out.

Now what kind of party would be without something to cool you off when that heat hits. I hit the dollar store and found a few treasures to blast with some Heat Wave, including this cute little ice bucket and some good old-fashioned root beer.

I simply added some of the fun chipboard pieces and stickers from today’s steal to the outside of the bucket. I also dug in my stash and found some cute blingy letters to add. Anticipating condensation, I made sure to attach the letters with dimensional foam squares and add some glue dots to the stickers.

Next I made a fun wrapper for the bottle of root beer. While this won’t be able to chill in the bucket of ice, it will sure look cute on the table next to the cups which the guests can fill with ice.

Speaking of cups, it seems like a never ending battle to remember whose cup is whose. While an easy answer is simply adding names with a sharpie to the outside of the cup, I decided to take it one step further and create dangly name tags for the guests.

To attach the name tags to the side of the cup, I simply took my Crop A Dile and punched out two holes, about 1/2″ apart, in a vertical line on the side of the cup at the top. Next, I added an eyelet to a piece of the Heat Wave chipboard. I threaded a piece of ribbon through the two holes of the cup, starting from the outside of the cup on the top hole. Next I threaded the chipboard piece through the bottom piece of ribbon and then finished things up by tying a quick knot. I used my label maker to create personalized names, and now our guests will have their own unique cups.

For centerpieces of the tables, I found some metal buckets. I added stickers, chipboard pieces and ribbon to the handle to decorate.  You can use the buckets to hold utensils wrapped in napkins.

Then you can even add an extra Heat Wave touch by creating napkin rings to hold the untensil kits together.

When the sun sets and the party is still raging on, you can add some citronella candles inside the buckets to help keep the mosquitos at bay. Just be sure to flip the handle down so that your ribbon doesn’t catch fire!

I couldn’t resist dressing up some plain ketchup and mustard bottles. I simply wrapped the bottles with paper, added a ribbon around the middle and added some yum.

I don’t know about you, but I can’t resist a cupcake and this party isn’t complete without them! To make the cupcake toppers I cut out some circles using my Silhouette, then added chipboard pieces to the centers of the circles.

And of course, I didn’t want the guests to leave without a little thank you. I filled some clear bags with watermelon candies and created a little tag to finish it off.

Simple. Cute. Fun.

And now…the countdown to summer  is on!
