American Crafts Buttons

Winter Design Team member Bev Code is back with us today for more fun on the blog! Bev got to work with today’s steal,  American Crafts Buttons. She has created some fun projects to inspire us all. I’m definitely going to try out some of her ideas for embellishments and key chains!

My Design Team reveal this month at ScrapbookSteals is using American Crafts Buttons.

I thought I’d share a few ways I use buttons on my projects.

I made lots of fun accents to use. On the top left I made a homemade flower and added a button with twine bow. Working your way across the top line next up is a single button with double twine bow and finishing the top line I using a paper clip I added a button with  twine bow. Starting the bottom left row the next piece is a ribbon loop with an added button with twine bow followed by a tied a ribbon bow and added a button with twine bow and lastly a Layered Prima flowers and topped off with a button with twine bow. This is only a few ideas of embellishments that can be made using buttons.

The layout below shows how I used some of the above accents. I used three embellishments from above on this page.

On this cute tag I used the looped ribbon accent to top off the tag and added another button accent below.

Next up is my layout making a button tree. It was perfect for this cute boy page about two brothers. So whether you Cricut cut a tree, freehand cut a tree, or even just use some single branches, the button accents are perfect.

On this last project I used picture frame wire and started with a U shape. I then feed the wire through two of the four holes. At the bottom of the U, I left just a little wire and twisted it to make like a knot on the bottom. After adding the buttons I twisted the wire at the top of the buttons. Move up the wire about 1/4 to 1/2″ and twist again – this space is where I added the many tied ribbons. Next up is to find some small circular object, jar – anything small and circular (eg. a pin bottle). Wrap the wire around a few times and finish off twisting ends around the wire so they don’t come undone.
This cute accent I have seen done in Christmas colors and hung on the Christmas tree. I also think it’s a cute accent for any gift you wrap. Another idea I thought it would be perfect to put on the rings of the mini albums when you make them.

American Crafts Dear Lizzy 5th & Frolic Collection | Mid Week Mojo

Jade – Week 8 of 10
New to Mid Week Mojo? Get started here!

The American Crafts Dear Lizzy 5th & Frolic Collection is so much fun with modern patterns and colors, combined with softer pastels and flowers! There are journaling and patterned cards, phrase garlands, large tags, chipboard shapes, stitched ruffle strips, and even some thickers! I loved combining the different elements and textures for my layout – it certainly added lots of dimension!

Here is this week’s sketch.

And here is my layout:

Mid Week Mojo Jade #8

I love the fact that this collection allows you to create girl AND boy pages. The colors range from creams and pinks, to soft blues, greens and yellows, with the patterns being versatile too! I knew I wanted to use the ruffle strip on my layout somewhere – I just love the texture and it comes complete with the banner and buttons on it too! They have done all the thinking for you!MWMJade8 - 1

There are lots of fun elements in the chipboard pack – I used the heart, the arrow, the photo frame and the sentiment. The ‘life’ wording is actually one of many large tags in the collections, which I backed with some of the colored paper.

Lastly, I fussy cut the triangles from a sheet of the patterned paper, and added a line of stitching running through them, for some more interest and texture to the page.

I hope I have inspired you to create your own layout from this sketch!

American Crafts Amy Tangerine Ready Set Go Collection | Mid Week Mojo

Jade – Week 6 of 10
New to Mid Week Mojo? Get started here!

The American Crafts Amy Tangerine Ready Set Go Collection has so many bright, fun papers and embellishments, picking a theme truly is difficult. From patterned papers, bright colors and tags, to die cut shapes, stickers and even a date stamp – you really are spoilt for choice! This collection just shouts out Amy Tangerine!

Here is this week’s sketch. Hope you like it!

And here is my layout:

MWMJade#6a

I loved this background paper . It is very plain and simple, with a few printed on elements in the top left hand corner. I wanted to add a little more dimension and texture to this, so added some extra papers, stickers and hand stitching – the design is the same, it just has a little more interest now.

Adding dimension and texture to scrapbooking layouts

I also loved all the different elements in this collection so much, I wanted to try and use them all! I love the look of clustered embellishments on layouts and this seems to be a big trend on Amy Tangerine layouts. So I thought I would give it a try! I used some of the die cuts in the collection, along with punched circles and stickers to create this layered, clustered embellishment.

I then felt that I needed to balance out the layout with a few more embellishments in the bottom right corner. I added some stitching for texture, along with a layered sticker and more of the die cut embellishments. Unfortunately the date stamp didn’t go back to 2002 which is when the photograph was taken, but it does have some great sentiments so I used the ‘snapshot’ wording to add another few details.

Lastly, I added some ‘hidden journaling’. I really don’t like to see my handwriting on a scrapbook layout, so I much prefer hidden journaling. The small journaling cards that come in the collection were perfect for this. I highlighted it with the small arrow stickers, just so people know it is there!

I hope I have inspired you to create your own layout from this sketch!

You girls totally rocked the sketch last week – I love how you all had positive comments about the double page layout! You may see a few more of those in the future.
