American Craft Thickers

American Crafts DIY Thickers + Itzy Ritzy Cans

If you look anywhere on the Internet these days, you’ll see that the world is filled with DIY projects. Heaven only knows my basement is filled with eternal, never-ending, do-it-yourself, aka: bathroom building. But who wants to get messy with do-it-yourself bathroom building when there is a far funner and craftier way to get messy? You can get your crafty on with today’s steal, the American Crafts DIY Thickers. You can spice up those babies with just the right amount of color and texture to make a perfect project. Pair it with today’s steal the Itzy Ritzy Craft Cans and you have the makings for a perfect project.

I have to admit. Making these cans were FUN! I thought it would be fun to turn my canisters into a little Easter decor (or would it be an emergency snacky stash). I went to the store, picked up some paper Easter grass, a few different colors of marshmallow bunnies and I was set.

Then came the fun part—dressing up the letter stickers! (As if glorious rows of beautiful bunnies weren’t enough!)

DIY Thickers = SUPER easy.

First, choose your decorating medium. Either micro beads (Pop!), chunky glitter (Wow!)  or tinsel type stuff (Spark!)

Next peel off the top white sheet on the Thickers letter that you are using.

Dump on your choice of Pop!, Spark!, or Wow!

Then peel up from the backing. Voila! A DIY letter, customized to match your project. :)

Splap those babies on your creation and you’re done! DIY that doesn’t take going on 6 years, like my basement bathroom.

Believe me when I say that the DIY American Craft Thickers are…..

Have a great weekend and set your alarm for Monday because we have a guest blogger that you do NOT want to miss!

How To’sday | Altering Thickers by Brittany Perry

How To’sday | Altering Thickers by Brittany Perry

One of ScrapbookSteals very own, Brittany Perry has done it again! This week Brittany shows us some amazing ways to alter one of our very favorite embellishments, Thickers, to suit our every scrappy need.

I love Thickers — all of them! I have found that I often use the same ones on multiple layouts, which can get a little boring. I recently began altering Thickers to change things up a little bit. Here are a few ideas I have tried so far.

On these two sets of Thickers, I used rub-ons. It is such an easy, fast, mess free way to customize them:

On this set, I felt like the title was blending too much into the patterned paper, so I used a KI Memories stamp, a little brown ink, and added a little color and pattern.

This title just seemed a little boring to me. The layout already had paisleys on it, so I thought the KI Memories paisley stamp would be a great way to change these Thickers.

On these foam Thickers, I used some Versamark watermark ink, some Zing embossing powder, and another KI Memories stamp to add some color and glimmer.

I thought glimmer mist would be another easy way to change Thickers. On this set of yellow Thickers, I sprayed some “brick” colored glimmer mist, which I think gave the word “animal” an animal-like feel!

Some other ideas for altering Thickers include:

  • adding stickers or rhinestones
  • sanding them to remove some of the color or give them a distressed look
  • adding distress crackle paint
  • adding ink (from a colored stamp pad – I especially love
    this on white glitter Thickers)
  • draw/doodle on them with a pen or marker

I think the possibilities are endless! And you can have completely unique, one of
a kind Thickers!

Thank you so much Brittany for your amazing ideas on how to alter Thickers. Remember if you have a great idea that you’d love to see featured on How To’sday, you can send images and directions to

Be sure to check in tomorrow for Mid Week Mojo and an amazing sketch from our June guest sketcher.

Have a great day!

Monday Card Madness #9

Monday Card Madness #9

Hello everyone!  How was your weekend?  I had such a lovely weekend celebrating Thanksgiving and my oldest daughters 16th birthday!  I pretty much steered clear of my work room all weekend so when I sat down to create today it was bliss!  I have to tell you!  I kind of love this weeks card sketch!  So much that I couldn’t stop at just one card but made 4 of them!  Honestly I wanted to keep going, but I figured that you all would like to have the sketch so that you can start working on some cards if you’re ready!

This weeks sketch is a simple standard size card that can be worked into any size card that you’d like quite easily.  It is a layered patterned paper card with 3, 1.5 x 1.5″ squares across the front, and a ribbon hanging the center square from the top of the card with a bow.

Because I am in full swing Holiday mode right now, I went for some scraps still sitting on my table from my projects last week, some of my perfectly organized winter papers to create this weeks card.

Of course I couldn’t turn down the opportunity to use some of the Thickers from today’s amazing steal of a steal. The sketch worked perfectly to spell out ‘joy’.

I then closed my eyes and grabbed another kit of papers and came up with some Fancy Pants to create this thank you card.

Next I decided to use some fun papers to create an ‘I <3 U!” card.  Once again….Thickers to the rescue!  :)

I had to force myself to stop at 4 cards and ended up with this fun ‘Thank You’ card with a slightly modified version of the sketch.

I love how perfectly this bird from one of the Thickers sets being offered today finished off my card!

I can’t believe that we have finished up another 4 weeks of Monday Card Madness!  We have loved seeing what you create.  Our Facebook Fan Page is absolutely jam packed with inspiration.  If you haven’t had a chance to take a peek please do!

Usually we would have our drawing for cards today, but being as we have 5 Mondays in November this month, you have one more week to have a crack at winning all of the cards that I have made this month!  :)

Remember to post your cards to Facebook or your own personal blog by next Sunday at midnight, with a comment and link left on the coordinating card blog posting and I will announce the MCM winner on our post next week.

Be sure to check in on Wednesday as we have an amazing guest sketcher lined up for this week!

Happy scrappin’!
