Good morning and thanks for having me back again this week! I’ve enjoyed seeing all of your entries for my sketch last week and look forward to what you all come up with this week. I was lucky enough to work with Teresa Collins’ Life Emporium line for this week’s sketch. The papers have this lovely texture to them and are so satisfyingly heavy so they were fun to work with.

First, my sketch:

And my layout:

The colors in this collection are very earthy so I thought nothing would go better than some of my most recent favorite nature pictures.

I popped up the pennant just slightly to give it some dimension. The chipboard borders and word art were perfect for creating my title.

I finished off the layout with a little machine stitching and accenting with the chipboard buttons and regular buttons.

I hope you enjoy creating with today’s sketch and I look forward to seeing what you make!

-Brenda

Kaisercraft Beyond the Page Hashtags | Monday Craft Madness #3

Today for Monday Craft Madness We have the fantastically talented Cristine Redmond using Kaisercraft’s Beyond the Page Hashtags to make a project. I am in love with her project and ideas on this one. If you are someone who is trying to choose your word of the year, this is the perfect project for you. Actually I think we all need to pick a word of the year to focus on. Check it out.

Today’s theme is:

Your Word

When Melodee told me what I would be working with today, my brain started churning with ideas!  The first one I worked on was the #relax sign.
I knew I wanted to give it a distressed look to go with some of the decor in my scrap room, so I started by painting it a solid base color.  Once that was dry, I gave it a thick covering of Elmer’s glue.  It can be used to help give the paint a crackle finish.  Before the glue dried, I layered on the white layer of paint.  I didn’t get the glue layer thick enough, so the paint didn’t crackle as much as I had hoped for.  I decided to grab some sand paper and distress it even more.
As a finishing touch, I added some burlap twine tied into a bow as somewhat of a reminder to relax.  Last year, my one little word was “breathe.”  Hopefully seeing this sign in my scrap room will help me remember to not take life too seriously.
My second project was much more involved.  For the #me sign, I wanted to showcase all the things in my life that make me who I am.
My friends, family and hobby fill my life with so many memories.  I included many pictures which show me as a mother, wife, sister, friend, scrapbooker and card maker.
To get my pictures tiny enough to fit onto this sign, I started by making a collage in Picasa.  Then I formatted it to fit on a 4×6 picture.  It took three 4×6 collages (roughly 50 pictures) to fill up the front of the sign.
I love how each of these signs turned out and I hope I inspired you to want to grab some and decorate them yourself!

Echo Park Paper Collections | Mid Week Mojo Petunia #8

Petunia – Week 8 of 10
New to Mid Week Mojo?  Get started here

Today we are super thrilled to welcome a guest sketcher to our Mid Week Mojo  Brenda Smith has created dozens of awesome layouts and sketches for us, I am so excited she got to use Echo Park Paper’s Capture Life Collection Kit today for her project. Check out what she made.

Hello my fellow Stealers. I am so happy to be back here with another Midweek Mojo sketch for you. Even more exciting is that I got to use an absolutely fun and adorable line by Echo Park Paper and designed by Allison Kreft, Capture Life. There are so many sunny, bright colors and whimsical patterns like bokeh and brush script lettering. And to my surprise, I was also sent Capture Life in Black and White so I had a bunch of the same patterns in black and white. Let me tell you, I had so much fun making this layout.

First, I’ll show you my sketch. I wanted to play around with layers since there were so many fabulous papers to choose from.

Now, my layout.

I knew I wanted to use the black and white paper with the “all you need is love” as a large part of my background but also had to work in that bokeh paper because it is so fun!

There are so many fun sticker elements in both of these collection packs so I worked a lot of those into my layout.

This was such a fun collection to play with and I can’t wait to make more with it.

I’m looking forward to seeing your interpretations of the sketch this week! Thanks for playing along.

A big congrats to Charissa Miller, you are last week’s winner!

Kaisercraft Pop! | Monday Craft Madness #2

Today for Monday Craft Madness we are excited to have previous design team member Jessica Arrant show us what she created with Kaisercraft’s Pop Collection  Check out what she created!

So today’s theme is:

Party

When Melodee asked me to come play along with Monday Craft Madness I was honored and excited to play with KaiserCraft’s Pop Collection. I do love a good party, and making party decor has been a past time since I can remember. As a kid I made paper chains, now I mostly focus on banners like the one I have for you today.

kaisercraft banner

There were so many fun prints that I wanted to include so I took out my Hazel & Ruby birthday masks, and used them as templates to cut out fun shapes for the banners.

kaisercraft banner

I had the individual banners all but done and realized that the patterns had gotten a little out of control, so I went back and painted some silver and blacks paints so that the letters would really stand out.

kaisercraft banner

Finally, I busted out the eyelets and twine to create a way to hang it. I mean, how can you make party decor without twine? I know that I can’t.

kaisercraft banner

Even with all that pattern mixing I still had paper leftover so I made a 12×12 layout.

kaisercraft banner

Again, I wanted to make sure I was really using the patterns and stickers so I cut everything into triangles and started layering them up.

kaisercraft banner

Adding some Glossy Accents to layered stickers really made those elements of the page pop more.

And then I couldn’t help myself, I added in a bunch of Stickles and enamel dots to make the page that much more festive.

I hope you’re as inspired by this paper as I was! And thanks to Steals for letting me come and be a guest designer again.
