Teresa Collins Candy Cane Lane | Monday Craft Madness #44

The holidays are different for me. I used to love wrapping presents and surprising my kids. Well they are all now teenagers and the fun and magic have dwindled a little bit. It seems all they want for Christmas this year is gift cards.  Not terribly fun for me to give, but if that’s what they want I guess I will have to play along. Today for Monday Craft Madness I tried to use a creative way to give my daughter gift cards from some of her favorite places. I used Teresa Collins’ Candy Cane Lane Collection to make this fun gift card holder….. So today’s theme is:

Gift-Giving

I’ve used this process to create mini albums before, this time the gift cards fit perfectly. I was able to create the base of this mini album with ONE sheet of 12×12 cardstock. Here’s what I created:

Here is a pattern you can use to create something similar. Score and fold along the dotted lines and cut along the solid line.  You are scoring horizontally 2 inches from the top and 2 inches from the bottom, and across the middle at 6 inches. Then scoring vertically every three inches. Cut along your middle score from the side to the first score at the 3 inch mark.

Then simply fold up the 2″ flaps and then in half at your 6″ score. Fold either side of the paper accordion style. Use your favorite adhesive to hold the whole thing together, slip in your gift cards and embellish how you like. Voila! – a perfect gift for a picky teenager.

I also added some of the 3×4 cards that come in this collection to the inside of the pockets but you don’t need to do that. I only decided to do that because the paper I chose had words and they ended up upside down when I folded up my mini album.

Hopefully she will like it.  We would love to see and hear about some of your hand made gift giving ideas – the holidays are getting closer and closer!

Simple Stories DIY | Mid Week Mojo Petunia #3

Petunia – Week 3 of 10
New to Mid Week Mojo?  Get started here

I came to a realization a few weeks ago, almost six weeks ago to be exact. I am finally embracing the fact that I am a great aunt. The first time I became a great aunt was actually 15 years ago, but I always thought it made me sound old so I pretended I was just an aunt. Just over a month ago, I became a great aunt for the 7th time when awesome little Xander came into our family. I just couldn’t resist creating a layout to honor this little peanut. the Simple Stories DIY Collection was perfect to use for today’s  Mid Week Mojo and this picture of Xander. The neutral pieces with the bright pops of color help make this photo shine.

Here is the layout:

Here is the sketch:

I love how all of the bases are so neutral. With graph, notebook, or type card bases and kraft paper embellishments you could add any of your favorite embellishments. The burlap stickers add great texture while the bright colors keep your interest.

The letter stickers are awesome, so many colors to choose from. The photo stickers are great to add on your photos or your journaling cards.

I probably would have used this lower card as my journaling card, however since this baby isn’t actually mine I decided to just fancy it up a little bit.

While this product is definitely perfect for your pocket-style layouts, I love to use them on a traditional 12×12 as well.

A big congrats to Jessica Laureno, you are last week’s winner!

My Mind’s Eye Kate & Co. | Mid Week Mojo Petunia #2

Petunia – Week 2 of 10
New to Mid Week Mojo?  Get started here

This seems to be the busiest time of year for me and I suspect for everyone out there. With that in mind we have decided to recycle an existing Mid Week Mojo. So enjoy seeing photos of my son playing football once again.  My Mind’s Eye Kate & Co was the perfect collection for today’s Mid Week Mojo and these photos of my son playing football. Not only is the color palette more masculine, but they match the green of my son’s uniform to the tee. This year’s football season again ended with a little bit of heartbreak, but the team played their hearts out.

Here is the layout:

Here is the sketch:

I love how My Mind’s Eye always includes such great chipboard accessories. They are so easy to layer and since they are self-adhesive, adding them to a project is a piece of cake.

One of the patterned papers includes journaling cards on one side. Easy to trim out and create your journaling blocks.

Creating banners is super easy with the included layered and chipboard stickers.

Who says flowers are only for girls?

A big congrats to  Margaret Roberts,  you are last week’s winner!
