Today we have another How To-sday from our design team member Sara Case Strickland. This is a great addition to your layouts, I am giving this a try for sure.
Happy To-sday everyone! I don’t know about you, but I’m terrible at journaling on my layouts. It’s not that I hate my writing, I just normally forget to add it to my original design and then I’m stuck as to where to add it in.
Enter in hidden journaling – nine times out of ten my writing is behind a picture! One way I do this was suggested by my friend Cathie and it’s how I normally add it in. First, get your journaled element (I usually use a tag) and a sheet of plain computer paper.
Then, lay your tag in the paper and fold a small flap over it.
Now, fold the whole piece, with tag, over and form a pocket that is slightly wider than the tag.
Cut out the pocket shape, leaving enough room on the bottom for adhesive but don’t make it so long that you lose your tag inside!
Add adhesive to the flap and bottom of the pocket and seal it up.
Place your tag in the pocket then add adhesive and attach it to the back of your photo.
It’s hidden away but the flap of the tag is there so you can pull it out easily.
This is a great way to get more words in, especially when you have a super long title!
The other way I like to add journaling, or extra photos, is with a standard envelope. This is super simple – just add your main picture to an envelope, using it like a photo mat.
Adhere the flap of the envelope to your layout and then you can flip it open, using the pocket to store journaling or more pictures!
Do you hide your journaling? Leave a comment with some tips for me – I’d love to know how you do it!
