Pebbles Inc Front Porch | Monday Craft Madness #10

Winter seems to be dragging on and on and on around here. We keep getting a glimpse of spring, just to have it yanked away by Mother Nature. In my feeble attempt to try to force spring to stick around, today for Monday Craft Madness I used Pebbles Inc. Front Porch  to create a sign. This way I can at least look at something that reminds me of spring….. So today’s theme is:

Alter It!

Create something altered, show off your skills or your favorite altered project. You can alter anything!  Here’s what I created:

I found a wooden block and wooden letters at my local craft store. I painted the edges white and covered the block and letters using the papers from the Front Porch collection. I love how the colors of the papers are so bold they seem to bounce off the white background.

The cute sayings on the cardstock stickers are a great reminder to keep laughter and love in your life.

I have always been love with the ‘Chips’ from Pebbles Inc. They add dimension and color to your projects with ease. All of these flowers and birds just make me smile.

This project only took about an hour start to finish, now we have spring in our house even if we can’t have it outside.

How To-sday | Getting Messy with Gesso & Stencils

Today we have another great How To-sday from our design team member Wendi Robinson. It’s perfect timing to learn about these techniques for an upcoming steal (hint, hint). I can’t wait to try this myself.

Today we are going to get messy! I recently discovered Gesso and have fallen in love with the textures and fun ways to play around with it. Today I’m going to share a couple of fun techniques.

 #1 Use Gesso as Paint

Get your supplies: paper, Gesso, foam brush and stencil

Lay your stencil on the paper, and apply a thin coat of Gesso and let it dry when done.

(I always work on a cardboard surface for my misting and paints so it doesn’t get all over)

Then add your painted paper as a base to a project for a cool textured look.

#2 Gesso and Misting

Get your supplies: paper, Gesso, foam brush, stencil and Mist

Then lay your stencil on the paper, and apply a thin coat of Gesso and let it dry when done.

When it’s done, stagger the stencil design and add a thin layer of misting.

Once it’s dry it can be used as a base for your project, it also gives a fun “wet” look to your project.

#3 Gesso and Paint

Get your supplies: paper, Gesso, foam brush, stencil and Mist

Plan a small amount of Gesso and add a few drops of mist to the mix till you get your desired color.

This is a fun way to make your Gesso match any project you are working on and add some color. Here is the result. I LOVE how just that small hint of pink makes a difference.

Thanks so much for stopping by and don’t be afraid to get messy!

Thanks Wendi! Come back tomorrow for the last installment of our Iolite Mid Week Mojo!

Merry Mid-Week Mojo

We are taking a break today from our regular Mid Week Mojo posts to spend time with our families. This will give you some extra time to finish up the Iolite #4! While we are all enjoying the day, here is a look back at some of the great holiday projects featured over the last month.

Happy Holidays to one and all!

Authentique’s Thankful Collection | Monday Craft Madness #46

There is a chill in the air and another blanket on my bed, yes it is Autumn. With the change of the seasons our thoughts turn to holiday and family. As we prepare for family to gather for Thanksgiving, we take stock of what we are grateful for.  Today for Monday Craft Madness I used Authentique Paper’s Thankful Collection to a frame and envelopes for each of my family members. The envelopes are meant for each person to put in notes each day listing what they are grateful for….. So today’s theme is:

Grateful

Create something honoring someone you are grateful, make a card for someone you are grateful for, use the part of your stash you are the most grateful for, whatever strikes your fancy. Here’s what I created:

With all of the paper choices I actually made dozens of envelopes the hard part was choosing the ones I wanted to display.

Creating the envelopes was quick and easy with the We R Memory Keepers’ Envelope Punch Board. I made the little envelopes and chose from the hundreds of stickers to embellish the envelopes.

I chose my favorite quote sticker from the kit to encompass the feeling of the project and the feeling I want my family to have throughout this season. I added it to the top of the frame with a doily I created as well as some other embellishments.

Echo Park Reflections | Monday Craft Madness #39

I may be a little biased, but I am in love with Echo Park these days. Their new collections, Reflections and Reflections Fall, are just beautiful. I was so excited that I got to create with Reflections. With a family based theme and beautiful autumn colors, I just fell in love. I decided to make a sort of canvas collage with all of the words I want my family to think of every day. (I even pulled out some paint!) I will hang this in our main hallway and hopefully it will stick in my teenagers’ heads. So this week’s Monday Craft Madness theme is:

Collage

Create a canvas, a layout, a card, anything that strikes your fancy and include a collage of some sort. Here is my collage canvas wall hanging.

I love the rich nature-loving colors of this collection. They are perfect for almost any project and won’t conflict with your photos or other elements of your projects. I am also in love with the embellishments. The chipboard, the brads, and the layered chipboard add dimension and texture to your projects. I may have gone a little overboard with my collage, but it has turned into my new favorite project.

Adding pop dots and a little ink to the stickers included in the collection kit create texture and dimension on your collage.

Layering is the key when creating a collage. Luckily Echo Park Reflection has so many choices. From chipboard to stickers, to gem and epoxy brads, to layered chipboard, just add a little twine and you are set.

Family is always the most important thing in our lives, but we need to remember other important things. I love the quotes in this kit reminding myself and my family that it’s the little moments we need to keep in our hearts and cherishing every day is the most important. We are blessed, we have a good life, and I am ever grateful.
