My Mind’s Eye On the Sunny Side and Nostalgia | Monday Card Madness #108

If you visit our boutique, you might just recognize today’s guest sketcher. Steal Boutique’s very own Karina Wetzel will show us how to rock today’s steal, the My Mind’s Eye On the Sunny Side and Nostalgia collections. We love these bright, playful, and timeless collections and adore what Karina created.

This week I got to play with one of my favorite collections, Nostalgia by My Mind’s Eye. Every time I hear the name “Nostalgia” it makes me think of a Caribbean beach. This fun and warm collection comes in a perfect time for this cold Utah weather! A girl can dream right?

I adore the colors and whimsical designs that Nostalgia has to offer. It was so much fun coming with this design. Simple with a little bit of a “pop” is what I usually do when card making.

One of my favorite things about this collection (besides the beautiful paper) is how many fun embellishments it has to offer, the super cute brads, layered stickers, and, of course, the chipboard pennants! Two of my favorite techniques for card making are inking and distressing. I used both on this card and I love how it turned out.

That was so much fun! The possibilities really are endless when it comes to this collection. I hope you enjoy!

Chalk ink Clouds | How To’sday

Today’s How To’sday by Becci Manies has to be one of the most ingenious ideas I have ever seen when it comes to ink! I adore my Fluid Chalks and I think I’ll love them even more now after putting to use Becci’s tutorial on how to create clouds with chalk ink.

• • • • •

Step 1. Start with your basic supplies: chalk ink, white cardstock, and a cloud template. I made mine by cutting a cloud shape into the top of a square scrap of cardstock. As you can see, it’s been well used.

Step 2. Start by positioning your template near the top of your (folded) card.

Step 3. Hold the template firmly down and start to brush your inkpad along the edges.

Step 4. Continue to ink along the edge until you have the first layer of clouds all the way across.

Step 5. My template is a bit small, so I move it and stagger it so that the cloud shape is slightly varied between lines of clouds

Step 6. Ta da! You have your first line of clouds.

Step 7. You can continue this for many lines, as far down the card as you would like. I started to use a lighter shade of aqua on the third row.

Step 8. Here is my card with all the clouds done.

Step 9. I added embellishments to the card to give it a finished look! It’s now ready to give to a special birthday girl!

Pink Paislee Prairie Hill Collection | Monday Card Madness #106

Okay ladies, not going to lie. When I first heard the name of today’s steal, the Prairie Hill Collection by Pink Paislee, I was immediately whisked back to the 70s when I would rush home from school to watch Little House on the Prairie. Luckily for us, Pink Paislee captures the color tones of the 70s in this collection with a beautiful modern twist. And since there are no bell bottoms or bangs feathered a mile wide, this collection is definitely a win!

I had such a blast working with the Prairie Hill collection that I found it a little hard to narrow down which direction I wanted to run with the card design. I wanted to incorporate the tags like I did last time we featured Pink Paislee, but I didn’t want to duplicate the look too closely so I got busy chopping up the gorgeous tags. Eeek!

On the first card I made I took the tag, chopped it and added matching corner edges to the bottom side of the tag and then finished things off with one of the cute 3D embellishments.

On the next card I took the same idea but placed the tags a little differently.

For the next two cards I flipped the sketch and tweaked it a little so that my chopped up tags would look the best!

On the final card I made I used the leftover scraps from two different tags that I cut up, added some buttons and washi and came up with a completely new design.

Creating with Prairie Hill? Way less painful than watching re-runs of Little House on the Prairie. In fact, not even painful at all!

I can’t believe the month is half over. If you love card-making and love free stuff then boy have we got a deal for you!

Authentique Fresh | Monday Card Madness #105

I think anyone who follows names in the paper crafting world will agree that Authentique is a continual parade of fresh ideas, colors and designs. Today’s steal, the Fresh collection by Authentique is just that—Fresh! (Appropriately named, Authentique! Well done!) The refreshing blend of blues, grays, reds and vintage designs are the perfect combo for today’s Monday Card Madness creations.

I absolutely adore the mini prints that come in the 6×6 pads—especially when it comes to making cards. I kept to a pretty simple theme with the cards in order to show off the gorgeous designs. I used my Cameo to cut out a simple scallop border and backed the windows with a different print of paper for a little variety.

I also cut out a multiple layered flower in different patterns, alternating the colors so that the flowers really show dimension and show off the collection.

For a little variety on the 4th card I made I turned to my stash for some coordinating flowers and layered them.  Instead of a die cut border I layered two papers, ripping the bottom edge of the lower paper. I also added ribbon to the tab on this card rather than twine.

For my final card I had to use the sheet of paper that has the vintage ladies and postcards. I replaced my scalloped border with washi and voila! A card that I’m really quite fond of! :)

As always, creating with the rich textures and colors of Authentique is fab, fun and Fresh.

It’s been another great week around the halls of the ScrapbookSteals Facebook fan page. If you haven’t ever stopped by be sure to check it out! Lots of inspiration every day.

My Mind’s Eye Halloween | Monday Card Madness #104

I love that it’s October! It’s such a beautiful month filled with all of my fall favorites: crisp apples, cool air, vibrant colors and the biggest candy-scoring holiday of the year, Halloween! I absolutely cannot get enough of fun Halloween prints and today’s steal is no exception. Today’s steal, the My Mind’s Eye Halloween collection really takes the scare out of creating with the amazing combo of  craft and color. Oh and did someone say chevron? EEEK! (That’s shriek of delight, not terror!)

It actually works out perfectly as my big girls and I were talking the other night about how fun it would be for them to have a Halloween party. My mind is already whizzing with ideas of creepy foods to make but before that consumes my life it’s best to get the invites out of the way.

The embellishments in this collection are fantastic! While no two invites will look exactly the same the embellies allowed me to keep the same theme. And of course I had to put the Fiskars Squeeze Punch from last week to use again.

So much fun and not even scary! But what is scary is the fact that another month has passed. I dare say I’ll be 50 before I know it. :) One good thing about another month passing is that it’s time to announce the winner of the September Monday Card Madness participation.

Congrats are in order for Misty Buck. You are our lucky September winner!

If you will please send an email to service@steals.com we will be happy to send a little card makin’ swag your way.
