Teresa Collins Candy Cane Lane | Monday Craft Madness #44

The holidays are different for me. I used to love wrapping presents and surprising my kids. Well they are all now teenagers and the fun and magic have dwindled a little bit. It seems all they want for Christmas this year is gift cards.  Not terribly fun for me to give, but if that’s what they want I guess I will have to play along. Today for Monday Craft Madness I tried to use a creative way to give my daughter gift cards from some of her favorite places. I used Teresa Collins’ Candy Cane Lane Collection to make this fun gift card holder….. So today’s theme is:

Gift-Giving

I’ve used this process to create mini albums before, this time the gift cards fit perfectly. I was able to create the base of this mini album with ONE sheet of 12×12 cardstock. Here’s what I created:

Here is a pattern you can use to create something similar. Score and fold along the dotted lines and cut along the solid line.  You are scoring horizontally 2 inches from the top and 2 inches from the bottom, and across the middle at 6 inches. Then scoring vertically every three inches. Cut along your middle score from the side to the first score at the 3 inch mark.

Then simply fold up the 2″ flaps and then in half at your 6″ score. Fold either side of the paper accordion style. Use your favorite adhesive to hold the whole thing together, slip in your gift cards and embellish how you like. Voila! – a perfect gift for a picky teenager.

I also added some of the 3×4 cards that come in this collection to the inside of the pockets but you don’t need to do that. I only decided to do that because the paper I chose had words and they ended up upside down when I folded up my mini album.

Hopefully she will like it.  We would love to see and hear about some of your hand made gift giving ideas – the holidays are getting closer and closer!

Echo Park Through the Year | Monday Craft Madness #43

When we had our retreat a few months ago I was able to travel with some lovely ladies around to see some of our local manufacturers. We went to visit Echo Park and Madison showed us some new collections. Their Through the Year Collection twas one of those. I got excited about the calendar theme of this collection. I dreamed of making calendars for grandma for Christmas, a birthday calendar and a goal calendar. I decided to day to make the start of a goal-themed calendar so I have something to look to for next year. So today’s theme is:

Goal-oriented

Create something that showcases a goal you have achieved or hope to achieve.   Here’s what I created:

I am hoping I can flip through this calendar each month of next year and accomplish a goal I planned ahead. Everyone wish me luck! Check out some more of the pages.

Here’s hoping that looking at something bright and happy will help me accomplish some of my goals for next year.

Crate Paper Open Road | Monday Craft Madness #42

A couple of months ago I was able to go on a little road trip with my two daughters to see a One Direction concert in California. It was a great time as they are getting older and may fly out of our nest at any time. When I saw the  Crate Paper Open Road Collection I decided to make a sort of mood board/bucket list. Hopefully we can take more road trips before my girls actually grow up all the way. Creating this  Monday Craft Madness was so fun as I imagined road trips across the country with my daughters. So today’s theme is:

Bucket List

Create something that shows off your bucket list. It can be a layout, a mini album or a wall hanging. Here’s what I created:

Our bucket list just started and with the binder rings we can keep adding to our list. I can’t wait for this summer and the start of our adventures.

First up is Fenway Park in Boston. Samantha is a huge baseball fan and the Rex Sox in particular. Our second stop is the Mall of America in Minnesota. I have been lucky enough to be there several times teaching at scrapbooking events. Samantha has always wanted to go with me and it has never worked out.  Now that she is older, we can totally plan the trip.

Teresa Collins Something Wonderful | Monday Craft Madness #39

We all love paper collections that have a specific theme. Birthday, Halloween or Christmas are some of my favorites. Sometimes it’s great to find a collection without a specific theme, one you can use for any project. Today for Monday Craft Madness I used Teresa Collins Something Wonderful to make a mini album to celebrate all of the wonderful things in our lives….. So today’s theme is:

Mini Album

Create something a mini album or a project about the wonderful things in your life. Here’s what I created:

I used two pieces of chipboard for the front and back covers and then just used my handy scoring tool and some cardstock to create the binding for this album.

I tried to leave some space for photos and journaling in this album so I can add things as we go along through this crazy life.

This collection was created without a specific theme in mind, just something that celebrates the wonderfulness in each of our lives. Hopefully we can all find something wonderful to celebrate.

Simple Stories Cozy Christmas | Monday Craft Madness #33

While all of Simple Stories’ collections are perfect for preserving memories, both in the traditional 12×12 format and the pocket page style, I noticed something fun about  Simple Stories Cozy Christmas  The pages, cards and other embellishments are perfect of other projects. One of my co-workers, Kerianne, has an adorable son, Mason. If you frequent any of the Steals.com websites you have probably seen his happy face. I decided to help him a little bit with his letter to Santa for this year. I can’t imagine Santa refusing Mason’s requests if he receives an entire mini album. So for today’s Monday Craft Madness I created a mini album letter to Santa…..  today’s theme is:

Mini Albums

Create an interesting twist on a mini album, like a letter to someone you love. Here’s what I created:

I love how the 6×8 pages included in this collection are all sorts of sizes and shapes. It offers a kinds of dimension and texture when you first look at the album. I added a few of the bits and pieces die cuts and enamel dots to the cover.

We figured a photo of mason will help santa remember who he is.

The chipboard pieces match up with the designs beautifully.

The die cut pages add a little bit of interest as you thumb through the album.

We used one of the 3×4 journaling cards for Mason’s present request list.

Santa can also keep track of where Mason will be all through December, just so they don’t miss each other.

And finally, Mason’s letter to Santa. It’s important to list all of the good things you have done throughout the year to get on Santa’s good side.

There’s room in this album to add more items, we are going to add lists from other members of Mason’s family. I just love the idea of sending a letter to someone you love in a mini album format. All of the care and love can flow through your creativity.
