Authentique Paper Original | Friday Design Team Project

Design Team Member Staci Jones is with us today for her first post. Staci has been in our ScrapbookSteals community since the beginning.  I for one just love seeing her work! Staci is working with Authentique Paper’s Original Collection.  This collection is very versatile and Staci shows you how!

I am so excited to share with you my first Design Team post. Not only do I love Scrapbooksteals, but I just love today’s steal!

I have a little boy who loves football, especially our favorite college team whose colors happen to be blue and white. This poor little boy has been in a poorly decorated bedroom for the last couple of years because I just couldn’t find the right decorations. Then Melodee handed me Authentique’s Original Collection. Immediately, I knew that is was just what my little boy’s room needed.

After a couple hours spent in my craft room with my Silhouette, some ink, cardstock, and Original, my son has a room that is finally decorated to suit his football love.

I used some football images from the Silhouette store cut out on cardstock and adhered to either the 12×12 or 6×6 sheets of original to make some easy framed images and wall hangings.

I love banners and really wanted one with the team name for his wall. Super easy and quick to make.

Because it is a football room, the room wouldn’t be complete without a football and a a flipbook with his football game pictures.

My little boy loves his room, my husband loves the room, I love the room, and I still have plenty of paper left over to do some great football layouts for his scrapbook!

We R Memory Keepers Antique Chic Collection

We R Memory Keepers Antique Chic collection is a versatile collection full of  goodies.  The layered chipboard pieces, buttons, brads, embossed stickers and crochet flowers add the perfect touch to your projects.

In working with this collection, I gave myself a challenge. . . my parents just celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary, to commemorate the event, I wanted to make a photo album.  Antique Chic matched the event perfectly (not only because my parents are antiques).

My plan:

  1. get my 7 brothers and sisters to contribute a page, but I knew that would never happen
  2. make all eight pages  and just get photos from the siblings (still hasn’t happened)
  3. use the Amber Sketches to save time, and see if I could make all eight pages with the same kit, and see how long it would take me

To my surprise I was able to make all eight base pages in about an hour and a half…then I went back and added the embellishments.

I was thrilled to be able to use just about every stitch of this collection kit for this project. That  feels good, although I may need to get another kit for my stash!

American Crafts Zing Embossing Powder Tips and Tricks

American Crafts Zing! Embossing Powder is perfect for adding color and dimension to your projects.  Zing! isn’t ordinary embossing powder, it is the most even, opaque and vivid embossing powder available.  Now, I am the first to admit I don’t stamp and emboss nearly enough in my projects.  I love the effect, but am sometimes scared to use it!  I’ve gathered some tips and tricks (most of them from the awesome Kristy Lee’s ScrapbookSteals projects)  to embossing and hopefully we will all use it more often. ;)

Products Needed:

  • Heat Embossing Powders (like today’s steal)
  • Stamps
  • Versamark ink pad (or other pigment ink pad)
  • Heating Tool

Embossing Supplies

 

Embossing is actually a pretty simple, three-step process:

  1. Stamp your image using Versamark Ink or another pigment ink product.  tip: if using a pigment ink, make sure to use one in the same color family as your embossing powder
  2. Dump the embossing powder onto the inked image and tap off excess.  Make sure to get rid of all excess embossing powder so you don’t have any stray melted powder on your project.  tip: rub a used dryer sheet over your project to help reduce static
  3. Hold the heating tool 6-7″ away from your project heat powder until it  begins to melt.  Once your powder melts, move the heat away quickly to avoid warping.  tip: allow heat tool to warm up prior to melting the powder.  This helps reduce over-melting and burning paper

That’s it!

Today’s embossing powder is perfect for projects on black or dark papers.
