How To-sday | Shaker Box

Today we are thrilled to start our Spring/Summer Design Team How To’sday posts.  Our first Design Team how to comes from the awesome Candace Zetener.  She is bringing a little bit of (contained) glitter into our lives.

• • • • •

Hey everyone! I’m so glad you have stopped by the blog for How To-sday today! I am so excited to share my shaker card with you, and teach you how to make your own! I used to be intimidated by these cards, but they are actually pretty easy to make. Once you get onto them, you’ll be addicted!

How To Candace Shaker Card 1

Here are the supplies you will need to make the shaker portion of this card.

  • Acetate (clear, plastic craft material)
  • Foam tape
  • Glitter
  • Pattern paper
  • Other adhesive
  • Dryer sheet

How To Candace Shaker Card 2

Start with the “window” you will be able to see your sparkles through. I used my cameo to cut the shape of a bottle and added details such as stitching with a white Sakura Gelly Roll pen and shading with Colorbox Fluid Chalk Ink.

How To Candace Shaker Card 3

Cut a piece of cardstock that is slightly bigger than your shaker window (also cut a piece of acetate the same size) and add foam tape around outside of the cardstock. (Make sure your cardstock is big enough that your tape will not show through the window). Be sure you don’t leave any spaces in between the ends of your foam tape where sparkles can sneak out!

How To Candace Shaker Card 4

Peel the back off your tape, add desired amount of sparkles and place acetate over top.

tip: Use the dryer sheet to rub the acetate before sticking it on – it will get rid of any static that may cause your glitter to stick to the acetate!

How To Candace Shaker Card 5

Add adhesive to the very outside edges of the acetate and glue to the window of your card. Add a couple foam strips to both ends of the strip of paper with the window in it, to keep the “height” of the pink strip the same throughout the whole piece.

Complete rest of card with desired details and let the shaking begin!  Instead of glitter, you can also use confetti, beads or sequins! The possibilities are endless!

Thank you Candace, this was fantastic.  I love these shaker boxes but have always been intimidated.  Now I can give it a try!

Be sure to come back tomorrow for another Mid Week Mojo!

Bo Bunny Welcome Home | Mid Week Mojo Peridot #2

Peridot – Week 2 of 10
New to Mid Week Mojo?  Get started here!

Bo Bunny’s Welcome Home Collection is the perfect collection for all kinds of projects!  It was ideal for this week’s Mid Week Mojo and the photos of Erin Shultz’s new baby Alexa.  When I saw the photos of little Alexa, I just knew this collection would be the best way to say “Welcome Home.”  Here is my layout:

Here is the sketch:

Mid Week Mojo Peridot 2 Sketch (797x800)

I love this collection and how neutral it can be.  The earthy colors with splashes of blue can compliment any project.  The layered chipboard pieces are an easy way to add dimension.

There are tons of embellishments in this kit in addition to the layered chipboard.  The layered stickers, chipboard stickers, buttons, jewels, cardstock stickers, brads, and metal trinkets are great for adding to any project.

With this collection I couldn’t resist creating a couple of cards.  I took the base of the sketch with the strips of paper as the background and made these two cards.

Now I have a couple of hand  made cards around in case I need to send a little note to someone.  I love that!

How To-sday | Flower Making

Today we have an awesome How To from Deborah Johnson.  She’s going to show us how to create homemade flowers for your projects.  This is definitely something I am going to try!

• • • • •

Good morning scrappy-happy friends!   I wanted to share with you all the tutorial to make the flowers that you may have seen on several of my layouts lately.  They are super easy and take less than 10 minutes to create.

Supplies needed:

  • 2 3/8″ scalloped circle punch
  • scissors
  • brads
  • colorful scrapbook paper

First, punch a scalloped circle (or two!)

How To Make Flowers 1

Cut “petals” into the circle…all the way around.

How To Make Flowers 2

Begin bending the petal edges back.  This is what it looks like when they are all bent.

How To Make Flowers 3

Turn the flower over and press a brad through the center and “pinch the flower to conform to your desired look.

How To Make Flowers 4

Ta-dah!  Check them out on a project too!

How To Make Flowers 5

Thank you for stopping by and checking out my flowers, have a scrappy happy day!

Thanks Deborah!  Definitely going to try these myself.  Make sure to come back tomorrow for another awesome Mid Week Mojo!

Pebbles Candy Dots | Monday Craft Madness #24

Candy makes every day a little better, right?  With Pebbles Candy Dots you can make your projects a little bit better too!  Choose from Classic, Glitter or Crystal to add that little extra dimension to your projects.  This brings us to our Monday Craft Madness Theme:

Dimension

Add some extra dimension to a project.  Try some of the ideas in this post, use pop dots, buttons, flowers…whatever strikes your fancy!

We are lucky today to have Stephanie Eaken as our guest designer.  Her style is inspiring, I am going to try some of her ideas in my own projects!

My name is Stephanie Eaken and I am a 40 year-old stay-at-home mom. I have two kids who keep me busy, entertained, and scrapping! I love all things related to scrapbooking. I started scrapping about 9 years ago when my oldest was a baby and have not stopped! I intended to make a book of her first year only. Well, there was no looking back for me once I began. I was hooked!

 Monday Craft Madness Stephanie Eaken

I look forward to my scrappy time in my space in our basement. I would describe my style as eclectic. I love trying new and different things and techniques. I also tend to like the hot, new trends. I am always evolving. I scrapbook 12×12 pages, mini albums, and occassionally make cards and OTPs. I love working with kits, sketches and online challenges! Paper and glue have been longtime friends of mine!

Monday Craft Madness Stephanie Eaken thank u

The first is a thank you note. I used butterflies punched from various scrap papers to create a bit of a mosaic heart. The alphas are MME from the “Lush” collection. I used the Pebbles candy dots in various spots on the heart to cover empty spaces & in the sentiment of the card.

Monday Craft Madness Stephanie Eaken 4 You tag

We have several family & friends’ birthdays coming up this month, so I figured a gift tag was in order! I kept it pretty simple to be applicable to either gender. I used papers from Pink Paislee & fussy cut the doiles from a sheet of paper by Echo Park. The alphas are American Crafts Thickers. I adhered the Pebbles Candy Dots around the perimeter of the larger paper doily and placed one in the center of the butterfly. I also used a larger clear dot in the center of the doily. LOVE them!!

Monday Craft Madness Stephanie Eaken Mutual Love

My third project is a layout of my daughter & one of our dogs. I started by placing the doily under the patterned paper (from Studio Calico); I punched 2-inch circles from coordinating scrap papers. The butterflies were also punched from scrap papers (I love using up my scraps!). I then began the layering process & added Pebbles’ candy dots to the center of all the butterflies. I also scattered them randomly around the fiished page to add more color!

Thanks Stephanie, for sharing your talents with us.  I love all of the dimension great and layers on the projects.  Visit Stephanie’s blog for more projects, you will definitely come back inspired.
