My Mind’s Eye The Sweetest Thing Lavender Collection

Winter Design Team member Lisa Spiegel is back with us today for another awesome reveal! Lisa got to work with the My Mind’s Eye The Sweetest Thing Lavender Collection. This collection consists of soft, delicate patterns and colors – very similar to the old Stella & Rose collection from a few years ago. The sentiment stickers and title cards have such adorable wording, and pair them with the crocheted flowers and other embellishments, you have the perfect ‘girly’ page!

Happy Friday everyone! I was thrilled to have my favorite manufacturer and my favorite of their recent release to work with, My Mind’s Eye The Sweetest Thing Lavender Collection. The pastel colors mean my photos and stories just pop off the page..and that because it’s My Mind’s Eye, everything comes together SO easily!

I created three layouts and a card to highlight this collection. For this first layout, I cut a title from my Cameo and pop dotted it up…it is called “Leap of Faith”.

I love how the little banner I made under the sun button (which I sanded a bit to tone it down) looks like little sun rays! Here’s a close up of the title…

Next, this layout of my oldest DD using a black and white photo (a rarity for me!).

This has to be my favorite paper of the collection..I love how it does much of the work of the layout for me. I created this one in less than 30 mins but it looks like it took a lot longer! The premade layered stickers are AMAZING…they also make the work easy! And how cute is that little crochet flower? I just added a brad to the center of it.

My last layout was actually the first I created. I used an instagram photo of my youngest daughter with our newest cousin…it was such a sweet and tender that the papers can reflect that, too!

I added a heart shaped doily under the layers of paper..and the cluster at the top..and actually cut the title of the paper off the UPC edge and used it as a tab because I loved the name of the line and it worked so well with my photo.

Lastly a little Thank You card that came together in a matter of minutes because of the premade layered stickers..

I added Cameo Cut leaves and a chipboard flower and buttons and some of the enamel stickers, too…how cute, right?! Such a wonderful collection to work with, you won’t want to miss this steal!

Thank you so much Lisa! Your layouts and card are just adorable! I love the soft colors and how you used all the embellishments and patterns! A great job as always. :-)

I just love the vibrant colors of this collection – the mix of patterns and colors just scream ‘fun!’ to me, so I wanted to create a fun layout!

The first thing that jumped out at me in this collection was the bright orange photo frame sticker! I just love this and decided to use it highlight one of my photos. The photo inside the frame is 2.5″ x 2.5″ which fit one of my photo’s perfectly!

I wanted to use as many of the colors and patterns as I could on this layout, but didn’t want it to look too fussy. Instead of adding layers to the layout, I decided to use a more haphazard grid formation. I used the banner and stitching, along with some ‘popped’ up stickers, for more texture and interest than the basic plain grid.

I used one of the title cards for my own title, but removed the orange sunburst from around the outside. Instead I hand stitched a chevron design in a lighter color, to highlight the title but not over-power it.

I hope I have inspired you to create your own layout from this sketch!

How To-sday | Making a bead necklace

Today’s How To-sday comes to you from Winter Design Team member Cristine Redmond. Cristine shows us how to make a super adorable necklace using ribbon and beads! Such a cute gift for her daughters for Valentine’s Day!

• • • • •

I was browsing on Pinterest one day when I saw the cutest “gumball” necklaces ever.  They were made with actual gumballs, which, as a parent, seemed CRAZY to me because if those things get wet they would leave colors all over the place.  I decided to go a different route.  I found some large beads at my local big box store and some pretty ribbon and decided to make a couple necklaces for my daughters. This is all you need:

DIY handmade tutorial on making a bead necklace

I used one of the needles that came with my Sew Easy because the eye was wide enough to thread some of the ribbon through.  I wrapped the ribbon around the needle a bit so it wouldn’t slip going through the hole of the bead.

Now, once I got started, I realized immediately that a plain, satin ribbon would have worked better because it would have been the same color on the top/bottom.  The ribbon I chose had white on the back, so I had to make sure I threaded it and tied the knot right so that none of the white side showed.  I threaded it so the pattern was facing up.

Once I got the first bead in the the right place, I tied a knot on the longer side.  I left a bit of length on the other side so I could tie it all off at the end.

This is what it will look like as you continue on.

And this is what I will look like when it’s finished.

I put some fabric glue in the knot of the bow to hopefully keep the whole thing from coming apart. Now, how many beads you add is completely up to you.  If you want to make the beads go all the way around the necklace, that totally works, too.  Here is another necklace I made:

I can’t wait to see my girlies’ reactions when they get these necklaces!

Wow! I am so happy to be back here at ScrapbookSteals to share some of my scrappy creations.  When I opened up my goodies, I was thrilled to find that I would be working with Echo Park’s For the Record 2 Collection.  Up here in Canada we have some pretty long, cold, and gloomy winters!  This gorgeous collection is just what I needed to beat the winter blues.  The colors are simply pure sunshine.  It is also and incredibly versatile, and could be used for many different themes.

For my first project I decided to make this little “Dates to Remember” mini book.  It’s the perfect size to carry around, so while out shopping, it’s quick and easy to check out who you need to shop for.

My next creation is a layout of my darling granddaughter Blake.  A few weeks ago I spotted this amazing layout on Pinterest and knew it was the perfect inspiration for the photo I wanted to use.  I have always wanted to ‘doodle’ on a layout but could never get it to look right.  But I decided to jump in and give it a try and I am super pleased with the way it turned out.

Because the colors in the collection are so rich and cheerful I wanted to use them to brighten up my scrapbook space.  I like to keep a ‘catch-all’ box on my desk to throw the supplies I am using in, until I finish a project.  So this clear little bin I had was transformed into a little piece of art.  I also just couldn’t resist decorating a jar to match. It’s perfect for pens, markers etc.

Lastly, I made this sweet little card.  For The Record 2 comes with stunning Element Stickers and letters, Chipboard Accents, Layered Chipboard, and Decorative Brads.  They make creating cards super easy and fun fun fun!

Thank you Kerys and ScrapbookSteals for this opportunity to share my projects with you.  ScrapbookSteals is like a second home to me <3
