October Afternoon Holiday Style | Monday CRAFT Madness

Today’s steal, the October Afternoon Holiday Style, was the inspiration for an exciting change of events in the ScrapbookSteals.com lineup.

Today is our FIRST Monday Craft Madness! We’re putting a spin on the traditional Monday Card Madness by giving you a theme/sketch each week and allowing you to create any project (a card, layout, altered project, or any other craft your heart desires!) as long as it fits the theme.

Let’s get started! This week’s theme is:

Christmas & Holiday!

I was extra excited when I saw this collection in person and saw just how super cute it is. There are lots of bright colors and patterns and so  many embellishments included in the kit.  It was hard to know when to stop creating! I created a sketch you can use for inspiration for cards of layouts if that is the type of project you choose.

There are so many fun papers, journaling cards, stickers, buttons, ribbon, and twine that I wanted to use it all!

I love the typical Christmas colors of green and red and these papers went together perfectly. I used of all the papers and embellishments, and a few of my own. I added some glitter, gems, snowflakes, and embroidery floss  … and voilà!

The holidays always make me think of snow, too. (I can’t imagine why when I live in Park City!) This collection also contains snowy papers and colors and the cute pompom trim. I used the same sketch for this card, adding stitching to represent one of the layers instead of paper.

As always, I love to flip a sketch! I love how they can be adapted to suit your needs. I turned the sketch on its side to accommodate my December journal card. I added the flower embellishment underneath my button and moved the sentiment sticker to the right hand side. But as you can see, it is still the same sketch!

There are so many fun pieces in this collection, the  possibilities really are endless. I hope you enjoy!

We’re so excited to get the new MCM going! The rules are  still the same– you have until the last Thursday of the month to create and share your project using any of the themes or sketches we provide. We’ll choose a random winner and they’ll be the lucky recipient of a $20 ScrapbookSteals.com gift code at the end of the month! Just note that this is separate from Mid Week Mojo, so you’ll have at least two fun projects a week you can dive into. :)

Don’t forget to check back in with us tomorrow for a fun How To’sday post!

October Afternoon Sasparilla Collection

.

Howdy ladies! Today is all about October Afternoon’s Sasparilla Collection Kit – country fairs, cowboy hats, and lots of “giddy up” fun! Fall Design Team member Julie Koets shows us a cute way to turn today’s steal into adorable, fun layouts – and she’s also thrown in a few cards to inspire you too!

When I learned  that I’d get to work with the Sasparilla collection from October Afternoon, I think I may have let out a “yee haw!”  I am a cowgirl at heart and was thrilled to dig in to this fun collection.  Obviously, these papers and embellishments work well with all of your “typical” cowboy and western style photos (horseback riding, pony rides at the zoo, wild west adventures).  I think they would also be great for a cowboy themed party or make adorable nursery decorations for a little buckaroo.  I love the denim paper, little flyers, and the chip n’ stick embellishments that I showcased on this layout:

And if you’re not a cowboy or cowgirl, have no fear. The earthy home style prints work perfectly for lots of other events.  I used the alpha stickers, fun trims from the wrap pack, and lots of journaling cards to document a family trip to the fair:

While some of the prints are definitely western themed, the “b sides” are super versatile and can be used for so much more. I just had to put together one more layout using the fun teal and gray papers.  I fussy cut the cloud from a piece of patterned paper and layered up some flower sack embellishments for this laid back layout:

For all of you card makers, these prints are fun and bold and can be great for masculine cards.  I used some of my scraps and threw together these simple cards:

Thanks so much for checking out my design team projects this month!

Julie – I just love your layouts! The papers and embellishments are so much fun, and I love how you have shown their versatility. The cards are super cute too! I love the masculine feel to them and just wish I could throw together such great cards like this. Thanks for stopping by everyone and be sure to tune in again on Monday for an exciting spin on MCM!

Meet the New ScrapbookSteals Blogger!

Today is such an exciting day! We are so happy to welcome a new ScrapbookSteals blogger into the family. We think you may find her very familiar as she’s been an active member of the community and was even a Summer Design Team member. Please welcome Kerys Sharrock!  We asked her a few “Get To Know You” questions to get the ball rolling.

Where do you live?
Park City, UT

What is your favorite thing to make?
Layouts.

Do you have kids?
3 kids.
A son, age 12. My quiet, shy boy who’s hitting those teen years FAR too quick! And he’s taller than me too – really not fair!
A daughter, age 9. My confident little extrovert who talks 24/7.
My husband, age **. The worst of the lot!

Tell us about where you’re from.
I am originally from the Northampton in the UK. My husband was offered a move out here with his company and jumped at the chance! No more cold, rainy days that chill you to the bone, and a guaranteed summer! Who could resist? My kids and I found the move very difficult in the beginning because we are a very close family and missed friends and family a lot, but we are all now well settled and loving it here. I’ve “found” scrapbooking (thanks to my Mum), the kids have “turned” American, and we have our green cards and are here to stay!

Where do you find your inspiration?
I love to stalk the internet! I check the manufacturer blogs most days along with friends’ blogs and other random people who inspire me. I follow them on Facebook, have a subscription to Creating Keepsakes and Papercrafts magazines, and love to look through Pinterest for ideas.

How long have you been part of the ScrapookSteals community?
I joined the ScrapbookSteals community just before their first retreat in 2011. I loved to join in the Mid Week Mojo series and then slowly turned to cards too. I loved meeting people at the retreat that I had only spoken to online – it was great to put a name to a face! This year’s retreat was a blast too! I can’t wait for next year. :-)

What other hobbies do you enjoy?
I must admit – I spend so much time in my scrap room that I don’t have a huge amount of time for other hobbies! My two kids keep me busy with swim team and gymnastics most evenings, and my dog is more work than a new born baby!

How would you describe your scrapbooking style?
My scrapbooking style is generally quite clean and simple, but a lot depends on the photos and product I am using at the time. I struggle to do ‘vintage’ or ‘distressed’ layouts, preferring the brighter papers and collections. I love to use embellishments and layers, and I am trying to get more creative with making my own embellishments rather than just using the products on offer. I am also enjoying making altered projects, and seeing where a product can take me.

I really believed that when we moved to the US I would be a SAHM – how things change! I am SO excited to be starting at ScrapbookSteals, the only job I would have considered! Who wouldn’t want to be working on something they love and are COMPLETELY obsessed with?! This is going to be a fun adventure!

And now it’s time to get to know all of you! I’d love if you would answer the same questions in a comment. :) It’s so nice to meet you all and I can’t wait to get started!

Authentique Carefree Collection Kit | Mid Week Mojo

Coral – Layout 8

Today’s steal, the Authentique Carefree Collection Kit, is just about as cheery as you can get. I love the rosey hues, cheerful embellies, and vintage flair. And I especially love how today’s guest designer, Venetia Willis-Holbrook, shows us how to use this collection for everyone in your family. (Yes, even for your manly-men!)

I was so excited when I was asked to guest sketch! I read the email at the coffee shop and almost threw my fresh coffee as I was yelling “Shut up! Really??” at my phone. I was even more excited to realize my month was November because layouts of my husband and girls truly represent what I plan to give thanks for! As if that were not great enough, I’m working with the Authentique Carefree Collection Kit. It’s no secret I’m an Authentique junkie, and Carefree is such a fun and versatile collection.

I thought it would be fun to draw one sketch and interpret it three ways.

I started with my husband because I wanted to show you how adaptable this collection is! The gingham, plaid, and neutral materials make this collection a breeze to work with for all your loved ones. I loved how Carefree’s colors adapted nicely to a masculine layout, and shockingly, my “shop guy” loved this layout of him too, so it passed his test.

My oldest girl has such a vibrant personality and I loved the butterfly paper because it reminded me so much of her. Authentique had the perfect quote embellishment to help the journaling along: “You are my sunshine,” which I have always sang as her lullaby. The alphabet stickers worked perfectly for a title with one of the file stickers from the pack.

My littlest one, who usually glares at the camera, didn’t catch me taking the picture so I was able to get a rare photo of her joyous face. This is my favorite picture of her so far because she is so happy. By fussy cutting the Authentique paper, I was able to make a dimensional layout that  reflects her girly-girl personality. She believes she is the pink princess, and Carefree definitely fit her!

I hope you enjoy this sketch, and I encourage you to use this week’s Mid-Week Mojo to scrap something you are thankful for.  Have fun playing along with me, I cannot wait to see how all you amazing artists interpret my sketch!
