We R Memory Keepers Mini 8 punches | Monday Craft Madness #2

Great things can come in small packages and this is definitely the case with one of today’s steals, the We R Memory Keepers Mini 8 punches. (Check back later today– you don’t want to miss our Cyber Monday fun!) I tried a few at the ScrapbookSteals retreat and LOVED them! There are so many great designs it was hard to pick just one. Which brings us to this week’s Monday Craft Madness theme:

I decided to use the Snowflake Mini 8 punch to make a winter mini album. I love mini albums with a mixture of shaped pages – I find them far more interesting and fun to look at.

I decided to use the punch for the regular snowflake circle background. I also punched vellum, folded it in half, and then stitched around the outside to make a pocket for the mini snowflakes that were punched out during the cutting of the large snowflake circle.

You don’t have to punch out the whole circle. I only cut out half of the circle to add a different shaped page to my album (which you can see in the bottom page of the photo below).

Here are the photos of the rest of my mini album:

I just love these punches and I am definitely going to be ‘stealing’ more! I hope I have inspired you to join in this week’s Monday Craft Madness challenge – using punches!

Don’t forget the rules! We give you a theme/sketch each week and allow you to create any project (a card, layout, altered project, or any other craft your heart desires!) as long as it fits the theme. You have until the last Thursday of the month to create and share your project using any of the themes or sketches we provide. We’ll choose a random winner and they’ll be the lucky recipient of a $20 ScrapbookSteals.com gift code at the end of the month!

Just note that this is separate from Mid Week Mojo, so you’ll have at least two fun projects a week you can dive into. :)

Don’t forget to check back in with us tomorrow for a fun How To’sday post!

Today’s steal, the My Mind’s Eye Lost & Found 3 collection, is a fabulous way to ensure warm fuzzies all winter long with two lavish color palettes and ample embellies. Whether you want to preserve memories of the holidays, birthdays, or special occasions, this collection gives you some stunning ideas! I especially love how today’s guest designer, Brittany Allred, shows us how to use this collection for a stunning layout and a card too!

My Mind’s Eye captured my scrapbooking heart with the My Mind’s Eye Lost & Found 3 collection. Here is my sketch:

I especially love the colors in the Oliver line and I couldn’t wait to put them to use to scrap my sister-in-law’s beautiful kids. I usually scrap 9×9 albums so I enjoy using wallet sized photos and I decided to use them on this week’s sketch. Some of my other favorite scrappy things are glitter and embossing. This kit has paper and embellishments with both!

All of the paper in this kit is fabulous and I wanted to use as many patterns as I could, so I backed the main photo in little strips of various patterns. This is also a great way to use up any scraps you might have in your stash. I first adhered the strips to a scrap piece of paper to get them all lined up before I added my photo. This allowed me to place the entire element on my page at once without worrying about placement of each strip.

There were so many details in the Lost & Found kit I wanted to use and I just went for it. The huge ampersand was a must, along with the doily stickers and chipboard. I wanted to show off the pretty double sided paper, so I used the tearing  and distressing technique. It helped add a little texture to the page too. The glittery pennants were perfect little accents as well. Glitter!!

I hope you love the finished page, I can’t wait to see what you come with!
Then I figured I better do some cleaning while my daughter was napping…but I made a simple card instead!

Lifestyle Crafts Punches Dies | How To’sday

Great for a variety of projects from layouts, to cards, decor, gifts, and more, Lifestyle Crafts Punches Dies are a quick and easy way to cut multiple identical shapes at once. Simply pop out the dies and adhere them to any embellishment or design you can dream of.

I did panic when I first saw these dies – they were SO long! I knew I didn’t have any 12″ long cutting plates, so I borrowed some from a friend. When I started working with the dies, I soon realized that you DON’T have to have the long plates. They can be used just as easily with the standard sized plates. Here are the two sized plates they can be used with:

I found it easier to tape down my dies so that they didn’t move on the paper as I was putting it through the machine. This also allowed me to use whichever machine I wanted. To use smaller plates, just put it through the machine twice, moving the cutting plates on the paper.

I also used some cardboard to make it go through a little tighter and ensure the cutting of the shapes.

I loved that the shapes were already lined up without having to keep repositioning them and trying to get them all to run in a straight line! Also, being able to use the negative shaped paper as a background for a layout along with the shapes themselves was an added bonus.

Here is the layout I created:

I used both the negatives for the background and the shapes themselves. I covered the shapes in different colored and patterned washi tapes, sticking some of them back down onto the base and ‘popping’ some of them up for more texture.

Some of these sets come with two additional single punches included. I thought I would try these out by making a card using a similar technique. I taped my single dies down onto the card and ran them through my die cut machine.

Again, I used both the negative piece and the cut out shape.

Again, I added washi tape behind the cut outs and used the shape to ‘pop’ up the butterfly and give some more dimension to the card.

I hope this has inspired you to use more dies, and the possibilities really are endless! You can be as creative as you like!

If you have an idea that you would like to share as a How To’sday tutorial, please send your photos and directions to ksharrock@steals.com. Have a great day and be sure to stop by tomorrow for our next installment in the Mid Week Mojo Coral series.
