Chalk ink Clouds | How To’sday

Today’s How To’sday by Becci Manies has to be one of the most ingenious ideas I have ever seen when it comes to ink! I adore my Fluid Chalks and I think I’ll love them even more now after putting to use Becci’s tutorial on how to create clouds with chalk ink.

• • • • •

Step 1. Start with your basic supplies: chalk ink, white cardstock, and a cloud template. I made mine by cutting a cloud shape into the top of a square scrap of cardstock. As you can see, it’s been well used.

Step 2. Start by positioning your template near the top of your (folded) card.

Step 3. Hold the template firmly down and start to brush your inkpad along the edges.

Step 4. Continue to ink along the edge until you have the first layer of clouds all the way across.

Step 5. My template is a bit small, so I move it and stagger it so that the cloud shape is slightly varied between lines of clouds

Step 6. Ta da! You have your first line of clouds.

Step 7. You can continue this for many lines, as far down the card as you would like. I started to use a lighter shade of aqua on the third row.

Step 8. Here is my card with all the clouds done.

Step 9. I added embellishments to the card to give it a finished look! It’s now ready to give to a special birthday girl!

My Mind’s Eye 6×6 Collection Vol. 2 | Monday Card Madness #107

Today’s steal, the My Mind’s Eye 6×6 Collection Vol. 2 are the perfect collections for this time of year. With the kiddos back in school and teacher’s gifts for the holidays creeping up before we know it, the variety of paper collections available today can offer all sorts of crafty ideas for any teacher gift need.

During the retreat I decided to ask some of the creative crafters sitting at my table if they would like to create some cards for this week’s Monday Card Madness. I love the different twists they put on the School Daze collection.

Jen McDermott whipped up this darling card and I just about un-invited her from sitting by me because her stamping abilities are so incredible. 😉

Cristine Redmond made this darling teacher thank you card — and again, stamping. I’m a wee bit envious I have to admit! I love how it looks!

And lastly Kelly Marks made this incredibly fun card with a great mix of the patterns in this collection.

Thank you for sharing your cuteness with us, ladies!

Now some of you may be wondering what the “sketch” is for this week and you are lucky enough to get to use any or all three of the cards as inspiration. :)

Believe it or not, we are nearing the end of another month.

If you’d like to enter to win our October Monday Card Madness swag package:

  • Create any or all of the weekly Monday Card Madness sketches.
  • Post the card to our Facebook fan page, or any other online location.

American Crafts Jute and Seasons Ribbon

Fridays are sure exciting around these parts and today Fall Design Team member Amy Coose shows us just how fun it is to wrap up a cute project with today’s steal, the American Crafts Jute and Seasons ribbon.

• • • • •

I was thrilled to get my hands on the fabulous jute ribbon by American Crafts.  I loved the texture and amazing colors, but my favorite thing about it is how perfect the bows you tie with it look.  Here’s a card I created using the jute in bows.

I also added it to a layout I created.

I also used the jute to create a quick home decor project. I created a framed initial C for my last name.  It was super easy, and I love the added color it brings!
It was super easy to do, and instead of wrapping the jute around the letter C, I actually did something easier, which used way less of the jute. Here is a quick tutorial of how I created it.

I can tell you I will definitely be using that jute again.  It’s a great way to add texture and color to a project.

I love you all.

This collection that is so happy and colorful, fun and filled with that favorite print of mine—chevrons— and was perfect to create a layout that is filled with so. many. memories.
