We R Memory Keeper’s Twine Spools | How To’sday

Who doesn’t love one of the hottest embellishments in the industry right now—twine?! I adore my twine collection. My kids do too! That part I don’t adore so much, but I guess I can be nice and share. Especially when I’m able to snag up such great deals on amazing colors and the perfect amounts with today’s steal, the We R Memory Keepers Twine Spools.

Now if you want to do a little more with your twine collection than simply admire how pretty it looks on the spools then today’s guest blogger Ilene Tell shows us some pretty spectacular uses for twine that will definitely get the ideas flowing.

Hi everyone, Ilene here, and I’m so excited to share my project with you guys today! I got to work with two really gorgeous colors of twine from We R Memory Keepers — Aqua and Orange. The spools are enormous and they will last me a really long time. I used a lot, but I barely made a dent. I decided that it would be fun to make a card. On such a small canvas, the impact of the twine is very evident. Here is my card, using the new My Mind’s Eye paper.

In order to make the border, I added a thin line of glue. I used Beacon Adhesives “Fabri-Tac” glue, since it works so well, especially on cloth (and in this case, on twine). Then I added a twisted, haphazard border all around using the Orange twine. You could stop there, and have the one layer, but I decided to do a double border. I used a paper piercer and my Tim Holtz ruler to poke holes all around the edge, and then hand-stitched a border with the Aqua twine. On its own, this would have allow made an attractive border, but I really like the effect of the double border, since you have the more haphazard layer that looks like it has been stitched down by the more orderly layer. This is a great example of a couple different ways of attaching twine to your layouts.

For the dress forms, I used my Tim Holtz Movers and Shapers Sizzix “Mini Sewing Room” die. I cut 3 dress form out of chipboard. I then cut two pieces of cardstock about the size of the body of the dressform and covered them with Fabri-Tac glue. I added a layer of twine by gluing it to the cardstock in layers going back and forth. Then I simply die cut the covered cardstock with my die again, and glued to the chipboard dress forms. This is an easy way to create handmade twine embellishments that gives your project a lot of texture. For the third dress form, I covered the body with some matching paper, and then finished it off with Glossy Accents for more dimension. As a last step, I finished off the inside of the card with more paper from the collection, and a Tim Holtz stamp.

I hope you guys liked my card and got an idea or two on how to make the most of your twine!

My Mind’s Eye Indie Chic Ginger | Monday Card Madness #83

Spices — what would life be like without them? Pretty bland, if you ask me. Lucky for all of us, today’s steal, the Indie Chic Ginger Collection by My Mind’s Eye can add the perfect touch of zip to your day. The warming blends of yellows and reds were not only amazing to create with but made for some pretty cute cards! Then again, what My Mind’s Eye product out there has ever been a disappointment? That’s right, none of them. :)

Yes, it’s true — I’m a through and through, die-hard My Mind’s Eye fan. In fact I love My Mind’s Eye so much that I might even consider wallpapering my bedroom with the papers. The Indie Chic Ginger collection would be an amazing collection just for that purpose. However since I couldn’t clear the decor change with my hubby I settled for making cards.

I adore the fact that the Ginger collection focuses heavily on chevrons so I decided to base this week’s card sketch around them.

For my first card I had fun with a little fussy cutting. I added a strip of the amazing trim and twine and my card was complete.

Next I did a little more fussy cutting around the larger chevron design on this yellow and cream paper. Of course I had to put my washi tape from National Scrapbook Day to use and ended up with this cute lil’ number.

Here are a couple of more cards that I made using a border punch that kept in theme with the chevron design.

I even made one more card with this luscious collection and was so excited about it that I actually gave it away before I remembered to take a photo. Trust me. It was cute! :)

And in case you missed it, here is one more card and a layout of my beautiful oldest daughter on the night of her prom.

Isn’t the Indie Chic Ginger collection sa-weet?!

Echo Park Hello Summer Banner

That’s it. After seeing what today’s amazing guest blogger Shanna Vineyard has created with today’s steal, the Echo Park Hello Summer collection, I am officially boycotting turning on the heater, wearing jackets and folding socks. The happy rainbow of hues in Hello Summer make me actually long to hear the tinkling of the ice cream man making his rounds. At least the for the first time. 😉

Just wait until you see what Shanna has created and you’ll be longing itching for summer too!

I am so excited to be a guest blogger today!  I have to admit I was even more excited when I ripped into my package of goodies and saw what line I was lucky enough to be working with.

I’m a huge Echo Park fan like so many others of you out there. But their “Hello Summer” line is for sure in my top three favorites! I’m a sucker for the color palette they used and all the happy and bright images that can’t help but make your projects fun!

For my main project I chose to create a fun summer banner that I cut out of ¼” wood then altered.  The sweet little banner border sticker in this set was what inspired me!  Once I cut five banners from wood using my scroll saw, I drilled the holes to thread the twine through and painted them white. Next I covered the fronts with some of the fabulous papers from “Hello Summer” and then went to work adding all the fun embellishments. Last I threaded the dark brown hemp/jute through the banners to pull it together and make it hang. This was a super fun and easy project. Be sure to check out my blog for further details on the banner.

I’m a big fan of cardmaking too!  I couldn’t help but create a few sweet summery greetings with this line as well.  Hope these make you smile!
