American Crafts City Park | Mid Week Mojo

Topaz Club — Layout 7

I love the first Wednesday of each month. I love everything about it. Not only is it Mid Week Mojo, but it’s our guest sketcher week as well! Today we have an exceptional treat as Charissa Miller totally rocks to perfection today’s steal, the American Crafts City Park collection.

I am so excited to be September’s guest sketcher! I remember when my Facebook chat window popped up with Kristy asking me how I would feel about being a guest sketcher.  I had been having the worst day and it immediately turned around (I believe I squealed out loud, which greatly confused my daughter).  I was so excited and then, yes, extremely nervous.  My husband was convinced I had lost my mind when I excitedly called him to tell him the good news, but men don’t get it anyway.

Then when Kristy asked if I would like to work with American Crafts City Park, I almost fell out of my chair.  I have loved City Park since it was first released, but had never gotten a chance to get it. I am a sucker for the bright, cheerful colors in the collection and the fun, floral embellishments.

This first sketch was inspired by some photos my mom took of Akiha playing at our neighborhood play structure. I was so happy my mom had taken these, because for whatever reason I have no good photos of Akiha playing in our neighborhood and the colors and mood of City Park just call for children playing outside!

The first thing I noticed when I received the collection was the absolutely gorgeous Delights paper flowers. They simply needed to find a home on this layout layout.

I’ve been seeing more and more layouts with these long embellishment “strips” along one side of the layout and the Delights were perfect for this. Plus, I got to add a few of the chipboard stickers and glitter stickers as additional embellishments to really fill out the idea of a flower garden outdoors.

I also really loved the ribbons that came with this collection, particularly the little yellow pom-poms. So cute!  They worked perfect to frame my journaling block.

I wanted to do another sketch, because I had to find a way to use the glittery cloud paper. I seriously felt this overwhelming need to use it. I might have a small cloud obsession … only a small one though! Plus these photos of Akiha passed out in our chair were just the perfect colors for City Park.

I am not usually a fan of flat stickers, but the glitter emphasis on the stickers gives them so much pop. Plus, I was able to layer them with the chipboard embellishments that do pop off the page and it gives such great dimension to the layout, even though the embellishments are simpler on this page. Oh, and who can forget the gorgeous Thickers? I am particularly fond of these soft blue green ones.

After completing the two layouts, I decided to make some cards out of some of what I still had left! The cheerful color of the collection lends itself to lots of happy sentiments.
I had to use at least one of the tags that come in the collection — I absolutely love them. They are so colorful and happy. I could not manage to get them into a layout a way that I liked (even though I tried and tried), but this yellow floral tag certainly made for a cute card!

There are lots of dogs in the collection, so I made this thank you card using some of the dog paper and stickers. My mother-in-law is a dog lover, so I have a feeling this card will be making its way to her eventually.

Here are the other two cards I made:

Here is the best part of the collection though – while I am basically out of embellishments (a couple embellishment heavy layouts and cards will do that to you) I seriously have enough paper to do two more layouts and at least four more cards! There is a lot here!
I want to thank Kristy and Scrapbooksteals for letting me guest sketch. I had so much fun and definitely will always be grateful for the experience!
