Get Crafty with American Crafts Marker Sets!

Next to trimmers and adhesive, pens are probably the most important supply to have on hand as a scrapbooker!  Lets face it, computers are not always available for printing journaling, and well, we all know how important journaling is.  (Right?  😉 ) After all, our scrapbooks are preserving our heritage for future generations, so it’s important that we document the who’s, what’s, when’s, where’s, and why’s.   Today’s steal, the American Crafts Marker sets, are the PERFECT solution to amazing, permanent, archival safe and fun pens!

As much as I do *not* love my handwriting, I had a friend when I first started scarpbooking, help me to realize the importance of taking time now and again to journal by hand.  Her mother had passed away not too long before our meeting and she told me how special a particular scrapbook page was to her, where her mother hand wrote the journaling.  It was then and there that I decided that as much as I detest my penmanship, that I would make it a goal to periodically hand write my thoughts.

On this page I used the dual point pens.  I love adding a splash of color to the journaling block.  It *almost* makes me feel like my handwriting is okay.  Hee hee!

I also love having a good set of pens to take with me on the go.  I’m kind of an anal person when it comes to finishing pages, and if I’m at a crop I love having a set of pens to whip out to finish up the journaling as I think I like my handwriting more than having an unfinished page!  :)

There are so many uses for the basic pens.   I had fun making a quick change to some raw chipboard, by coloring the letters to make them stand apart from the circles on this card.

Now the metallic pens that are offered today are SO.  MUCH.  FUN!  You can see in the card above how great they work on dark cardstock.  I also ‘inked’ the very edges of the card.  No need to wait as you would if you were using a pigment ink pad for it to dry.  LOVE some instant gratification!  :)

I also got a little crafty by adding color to some acrylic ghost flowers.  Even though I did have to wait for a few minutes for the ink to dry on the plastic, I truly LOVE how the flowers turned out.

Oh and another use for the metallic pens???  How about some nail polish!  :)  My 13 year old was super excited about that one!

As far as the Slickwriters go, I love that they will work on any surface.  You can even write on glass and it will stay permanently.  The Slickwriters are the perfect answer for those surfaces that you may come across working with that are slick, because like the title implies, they will write on those slick surfaces, and not even smear!

If you’re looking for that one last purchase of the year, you will NOT be disappointed with the American Crafts pens.

One more thing!  I have to tell you, I have absolutely loved bringing you some crafty inspiration this year.  I very much look forward to new ideas for 2011.  Happy New Year to all!  Be safe!  I’ll see you on Monday.

MWM #23 – 4x4x4 with Fancy Pants!

MWM #23 – 4x4x4 with Fancy Pants!

Hello everyone!  How was your Holiday?  Hopefully Santa put some amazing scrapbooking supplies under your tree, or at the very least some cash to buy some with!  If you *are* looking for something pretty amazing to purchase, then today’s steal, the Fancy Pants Like Father, Like Son & Wishful Thinking collections may be just the answer for you!  A little boy, a little girl, a little bit of everything!

I have to admit, I think that Christmas zapped my creative mojo.  It’s gone completely missing and I’d love if someone found it, if they would return it!  THANKFULLY, I had a stash of photos sitting in my email from some of our wonderful Facebook Friends and Fans, and luckily the photos that  Jessica Laureno sent me some time ago were just begging to be used with the Like Father, Like Son collection.  If it weren’t for Jessica, I could very likely be sitting at my scrapbook desk, still staring…..willing my mojo to make an appearance!

This weeks sketch was at the request of one of our Facebook fans….a layout that would work for either an 8×8 photo or a block of 4, 4×4 photos.  I couldn’t resist going with the 4 photos as little Andrew is positively adorable (as is his mommy equally gorgeous!) and I had to use just as many photos as I could!

Now you’ll notice that the result of my missing mojo, caused my layout to be morphed slightly from the sketch that I created.  The final layout is a  little out of my ordinary range as it doesn’t really allow for a title and **gasp**, doesn’t really allow for much journaling!  If you find yourself wishing for more room to have a title and ample journaling, this layout could easily be converted into a 2 pager with a simple 5×7 on the opposing page and plenty of room for a title and journaling.

I had fun mixing up the patterns of paper that come with today’s steal.  I added a little bit of dimension to the layout using pop dots to elevate some of the embellishments.

I also added a few buttons and brads to spice up the corners of the layout.

You’ll see that I also included a teeny tiny journaling block where Jessica can add her thoughts about the day or even a simple quote to finish off the page.

THANK YOU Jessica, for letting me create a layout with photos of you and your handsome little fellah!

Melodee and I were so impressed with all of the creations that came in this past week for the two sketches that were offered last week.  High five to all of you that found the time during the most hectic week of the year to actually scrap!  Way to go!

We are so happy about it that we decided again to give away two prizes this week.

Our two lucky winners are……

Julie Koets with her amazing beach layout that makes me long to live back in California

And Shana Charpentier with her incredibly fun layout featuring her hunny making balloon animals!  What a great memory to preserve!

Julie and Shana, send us your address to and we will get a prize sent out to you!

Well, you know the drill!  Have your layouts posted to our Facebook Fan page or personal blog by next Monday at Midnight MST, and you’ll be eligible for our weekly drawing.  Remember to make a comment here on this blog posting with a link to your page!

Good luck!  Oh, and if you see my mojo, will you please tell it to get it’s hiney home!  Thanks so much!

Have a great day!

Monday Card Madness #13 – Let’s use SCRAPS!

Monday Card Madness #13 – Let’s use SCRAPS!

Hello everyone!  Surprise!  A little later than normal today, but here it is….Monday Card Madness!

I can’t believe that we’ve been going for 3 months strong now with the cards!  It’s wonderful to see all of the different interpretations of each sketch, and what is also equally as wonderful is to see you putting your scraps to use!

Scraps!  What a wonderful thing to have.  We all have them after creating a layout, so why not save a few bucks on buying a commercial card and put a little heartfelt love into our greetings!

For this weeks sketch I kept it very simple.

I turned to my scraps drawer and decided to try my hand at putting together a few prints from different manufacturers.

The first card I made I ended up mixing papers from 2 different manufacturers and actually used a piece of paper that I’ve had in my scraps stash for well over FOUR years!  I love it when I can finally justify having kept something ‘just in case’.  I also love how easy it is to mix up different embellishments that may not otherwise be used when it comes to making cards.  I don’t know about you, but I will often use a product line once, maybe twice, but then want something new to use in my creations, so I love having cards as an outlet to use up some of those products that would otherwise be unloved!

I then made a ‘hello’ card and used some white rubon letters that I have had in my stash for literally years, to rub on to the tops of the brads.

Last but not least I made a thank you card, again, using papers that have been in my scraps stash for years.

I love making use of the old so there is room for the new!

Remember to post your card creations to our Facebook fan page no later than next Sunday at midnight, then leave a comment with the link on the applicable blog posting so that it’s easy for all of us to see what you’ve created.  I will then draw a random winner to receive all of the cards that I’ve made this month…..who knows….I may even send along a nice stack of usable scraps so that you can keep the card making flowing.

Merry (insert holiday of your choice here) to YOU!

Merry (insert holiday of your choice here) to YOU!

Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah , Merry Kwanzaa, Happy Festivus…whatever you celebrate this year, I am celebrating with you!

When the wonderful Jana Francis, founder of The Steal Network, offered me a job here at ScrapbookSteals almost a year and a half ago, I thought I had won the lottery.  Getting to work in the industry I have grown to love over the past 10 years AND getting to do it from home and be with my kids??? I thought it couldn’t get any better than that.  Then I got to bring on the fabulous Kristy…  Then I got to know you wonderful women in our little ScrapbookSteals community.  Watching you all love this creative craziness called Scrapbooking as much as I do warms my heart every day.  Getting to meet some of you at the Expo shows and at the warehouse has been such a bonus for me.

It really brings tears to my eyes to get to share even a small part of your lives each day.  And that you will share back with me in your layouts and family photos, well that just puts me over the edge.  This is really the time of year to be grateful for all of the wonderful things in your lives.  Aside from my family, I am most grateful for working for the best company in the world, side by side every day with the best friend a girl could ever ask for and to get to service such wonderful women.  Nothing really can get much better than this.

Much love to all of you this Holiday Season!

I truly could not echo Melodee’s words more exact.  Merry whatever it is you celebrate!!!!!   What an incredible 54 weeks it has been for me, working as a part of the amazing ScrapbookSteals crew!  What a gift.  One of the best I have ever been given….not only to do something I love so dearly, to get to work with such an amazing friend and woman who has blessed my life in sooooooooooo many ways, to get to still be ‘mommy’ while creating, photographing and writing, all with a small boy wrapped around my leg, but I have been given each of you.  I absolutely work for the best company in the world.  I.  Am.  Blessed.

Did you know when I first started, 52 weeks ago, there wasn’t a single fan photo on our Facebook page?  Look at what you girls have done this year! 2,345 photos today!  I’ll be honest…this year has been such an emotionally challenging one for me on personal levels for so many reasons (no worries!  Doing better now thanks!), and if it weren’t for each of you…and your 2,345 photos, your friendly comments, your sweet friendships and all of the fun,  I don’t know if I would have made it.  The days that were so hard, where I didn’t know if I could make it through another moment, there was a call from dear Melodee, a layout posted by one of you that reminded me of why we are a part of this crazy hobby, touching journaling on a layout (HOORAY for journaling), or a sweet new friendship made.

Thank you….EACH of you for being such a gift to me.  Even if Santa didn’t put a single thing under my tree tonight, it wouldn’t make a difference in the world to me…because I have my family, and I have you.

Wishing you and your family the very best, and VERY much looking forward to what our future together holds.

3 Bugs In A Rug is pretty Groovy and so is the fact that we have TWO sketches this week! (MWM #22)

3 Bugs In A Rug is pretty Groovy and so is the fact that we have TWO sketches this week! (MWM #22)

I know, I know…..  You’re probably all wondering WHY on earth there would be two sketches this week.  Well, I came up with two pretty good reasons for it.  First off, I had so much fun working with today’s steal, the 3 Bugs In A Rug, Groovy Collection, that I couldn’t quite stop at one layout.  The other reason is with the holiday coming up this weekend that I figure you are all going to want to have some extra ideas on what to do with all of the wonderful goodness that will hopefully be heading your way this weekend.  :)

The first sketch that I made was at the request of our Facebook Friend, Melissa Dehne.  She requested a sketch to house 3 – 4×6, horizontal photos.  Here is what I came up with.

I absolutely LOVE how easy the 3 Bugs papers make it to complete a cute layout with such variety in papers.  In fact, I created this layout from start to finish in 40 min!  I told my Facebook friends that is the sure sign of an excellent paper collection, when a layout will come together so smoothly and quickly!

I love how this kit comes with all sorts of punch out die cut embellishments.

It also comes with some pretty cute letter stickers too!

I simply couldn’t stop with one layout and wanted to showcase a variety of the different papers in the collection, so I came up with the 2nd sketch for this week.

You’ll notice that my original sketch didn’t work with the photo that I wanted to use, so I adapted to make it work!

I cut out several different sized rectangles in all different patterns of papers for the base of this sketch.   Again….loved the diecuts and how well everything coordinates…not to mention it’s a pretty compatible color palate that went well with other embellishments that I had in my stash.

(PS, don’t tell my hunny that I used, let alone posted this photo for the world to see!  Hee hee.  He hates it!  Oh and especially don’t point out to him that we’ve really only been married 18 years!  He remembers better than I do!  Must fix the journaling.  😉  I think my brain is zapped from all of our kids!  ::giggle::)

Now here is the little bit of a surprise that Melodee and I thought would be fun.  You girls have worked so hard on the mojo’s and a HUGE high five to all of you that created #21 and had it posted on time.  This is perhaps the busiest week of the year and 24 of you still found time to scrap.  We thought that was definitely something to shout about and decided to award 2 winners this week.

Thanks to, our winners are

Colleen Posey

and Michelle Blagg

Girls…we LOVE your layouts (along with every one created by all of you!)  Colleen and Michelle, please send us your address to and we will be happy to send you out a little scrappy fun!

Good luck on getting your MWM#22 done by next Monday at midnight in order to be eligible for the weekly drawing.  Remember to post them to our Facebook fan page (or personal blog), with a link provided here in the comments.

Also be sure to share!  It bring us so much joy to see new participants to our weekly fun!
